Gotta give em points for showing the weakness of the double bladed lightsaber too. Saltille almost died when Malgus closed the gap and disamed her, and her master mortally wounded malgus’s master by getting in close as well, which is the best way to defeat a rangy staff-style weapon that can’t be angled for close range defense.

How was this Zabrak Jedi Master not recognized further? Dude fought proficiently with three blades and defeated a Sith master in a 1v2 battle. This is kinda extraordinary.

Kao Cen Darach (that’s the Zabrak Jedi Master’s name) was the Battlemaster of the order. He was one of if not the best lightsaber duelist in the order at the time, and he was in charge of Lightsaber instruction at the Jedi Temple, as well as electing new instructors.

My favourite part is always 3:16. Sith decides to blast the ship with lightning and the trooper comes out firing a rocket to help out. Just very brief, genuine exchanges that are so cool.
I love the hum of the double-bladed lightsaber at that part. It’s so deep.
See how Satele Shan wield her double saber at 2:47? It's like a pikeman charging into the fight, such a aesthetically appealing stance, shows that those creators took inspiration from reallity and make these force-wielders actually warrior-like.
Honestly I like the more ancient look of these characters, The Smuggler looks like a cowboy, The Trooper is using a Minigun firing smaller blaster bolts, The Jedi and Sith look like they are more like knights and less like monks or such, The “Astromech” Droid is using bulky wheels and the “Millenium Falcon” Ship has only two engines and isn’t very rounded

Can't call a character a Mary Sue if you know nothing of their background.
People call Rey a Mary Sue because she does things like beating Kylo Ren in lightsaber combat without having any experience with the weapon. No matter how talented someone is, enough experience should still beat an absolute beginner. One could somewhat excuse Rey if the lighsaber was a double one, since she is shown to have experience with staves.
Sith betraying eachother is pretty much a lot of sith politics though. Nothing new there, although this takes place before the rule of two.
The Sith Empire returning is indeed pretty similar, altough this is just a trailer while the sequel movies don't even give a proper reason for Palpatine returning.
Truth is, this trailer has more believable characters and a better choreography for the fights than the sequel movies . This of course doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the sequel movies though, I just turn my brain off to ignore the plot-holes and enjoy the spectacle.

@@enskje I politely disagree. Flying a ship in perilous situations and gunslinging seems common in the smuggling businesses of Star Wars, and the pilot looks old enough that he could've been doing this line of work for a good while. This means him doing these 2 things (flying and gunslinging) perfectly is somewhat logical. Those are his guns, which he likely has a lot of experience with. That's his ship, which he likely has flown for many hours.
If he would randomly pick up a lightsaber and beat up a Sith for example, that would be Mary Sue behavior. He isn't supposed to effectively use things he has zero experience with. Here he uses things he practiced with, and obviously kicks ass because of that.
This is better that any of the Star Wars movie let’s be real

1:34 I love the little detail of the heavy lifting his cannon upright while turning so he doesn't flag his fellow trooper. Great attention to detail that the trooper would 100% practice.
I would have never noticed that little detail if I didn't have the same concept trained into me.
I'm just trying to imagine how heavy that cannon is. That's basically like someone carrying around a minigun. It's possible for someone with sufficient strength to carry one but the recoil would be unbearable.

SWTOR still has THE best trailers of any game, by far.
Should credit blur studios for doing it. EA paid bicc money to them to produce those trailers.
Shame EA won't do more cinematic trailers with them relating to SWTOR. I bet the star wars fans of blur studios were having a hayday when they were allowed to produce such a trailer.

The last trilogy isn't real Star Wars, it was a soulless product of corporate executives and marketing focus groups aimed at optimizing the film for international demographics. Just keep ticking boxes till it's so mediocre and bland it appeals to nobody.

Umm because its the greatest animation in history of everything. And the last trilogy isnt star wars and it isnt cannon and noone gives a rats ass about it worst story writing i’ve ever seen
it was made with love, it respected previous lore, it takes itself as seriously as other SW content does (relatively serious), and it just looks cool. Like compare the fight at the start of episode 8 to either the one at the start of 3 or the one at the end of Rogue One. All of those are space battles, but the one at the start of 8 is just boring to watch
It brings a warm feeling to my very soul that SWTOR is still alive and kicking these days.

I actually just booted it up a maybe two weeks ago, give or take, and I adore it. And I just found out that they’re actually adding more stuff with this upcoming Legacy of the Sith. I’m glad I finally jumped on board

WoW I understand a little less, because I'm not a big fan and even when I have played the story has been completely lost on me, but it doesn't matter as much for the trailers with how they feel so separated. If I had to compare one thing, I'd have to say that I think SWTOR's have more impact to them than WoW's do, purely because WoW's are more trying to tell a story than anything.

The moment when Satele tosses her saber and her Master already jumped up into the air to catch it before she finishes calling out to him is such an amazing detail showing how Jedi use the Force as a medium for foresight in combat, giving off the illusion of impossible reflexes.

@@bensul9979 these fights are more realistic than what they say. It’s back in a period where Jedi and sith were constantly in battle. The prequel and original trilogy were more laid back.
@@crapbag666 back in the Old Republic, Jedi and Sith had been fighting each other for 1000 years. thats what they trained for, and they had it down to an art. Even troopers were trained to fight sith and resist Jedi mind tricks. It was a whole galaxy full of actual star wars.
The Jedi of the prequel trilogy had forgotten all this. They were just policemen, who could fight a training drone and force-pursuade someone to give up Death Sticks, but thats all they did, for generations. Which is why they got their backsides handed to them when the Clone Army got activated. Totally unprepared, totally untrained, lazy, complacent. One Old Republic sith could have probably taken them all single-handedly. (mind, the prequel Sith weren't much better, Palpatine got most of his knowledge from holocrons cos he killed his master too early, Dookoo was an ex-Jedi (with all the inherent lazyness of that era), and Maul was a good fighter but wasn't trained by a Sith martial expert, he was trained by Palpatine using something he read in a holocron lol.

Even after 10 years, this trailer is still the embodiment of what Star Wars is (or at least ought to be).
This is why I love Legends more than anything.
I love these trailers too but i wouldn't call them the "embodiment" of what star wars should be, seeing that these are mostly just great action adventure short films and dont really go as deep as other Star wars material does and should continue to do
If they make an old republic-era movie they should just rip off this scene in live action.

Such a dynamic and fluid 2-v-2 lightsaber battle, with each combatant fighting their main opponent but at the same time looking out for their partner and sneaking quick attacks at their opponent's partner. We've seen a lot of 1-v-1 or 2-v-1 in the other media forms, but when it comes to 2-v-2 tag-team nothing (in my opinion) has this cinematic trailer beat.
Man this entire trailer was an masterpiece! Way better than what Disney put out.
I love how they incorporated martial arts into the lightsaber combat, instead of just fencing they make full use of extra strength the force can give.

Pretty much the only Jedi that does this in the modern day is Mace Windu. He is more physically aggressive during combat as opposed to someone like Obi-Wan who seems to prefer more defensive moves.
Yeah, the Jedi and Sith after the Old Republic era don't use martial arts as much as they used to anymore. They rely too heavily on their Lightsabers and Force techniques. Mace Windu used some hand-to-hand combat during the Clone Wars, but it was sparse and basic, at best.
I love the dichotomy between the Jedi and Sith in the exchange of sabers alone.
Satele gives a double-bladed saber to her master willingly.
Malgus takes a double-bladed saber from his master forcefully.

@@Poisonedwight Trakata itself is kinda poorly defined, but this fight is mentioned in the fandom page for the fighting style. It also originated in fan fiction, and was only made canon by a Role Playing Game.

What I love about this trailer is it truly demonstrates the philosophy of the sith. Malgus killed Vindican because due to his injury he was now weaker and according to the sith, only the strongest can be the master. Thus he had no issue with killing him in cold blood. Its brutal but it demonstrates the systematic approach that the sith have to power and dominance. Malgus was an apprentice to VIndican but all sith apprentices are always looking for an opportunity to kill their master to take the power their masters have.
His reasons for killing Vindican was two-fold: First he failed in the attack planning, so the Jedi escaped and now they will have to face resistance, second, he failed to kill the Jedi master when he had the chance and was hurt by a rookie mistake by said Jedi when the odds were 2 to 1. And to finish, he now could kill him and be the master without grief from the other Lords because of the fuck up.
From what Dart Sidious told, I believe the apprentice submits to the master in order to learn all he can about the dark side. What keeps the master alive is, first, vigilance against his own apprentice and, second, knowing more than him. As Sidious summarized, "my master (naively) taught me everything he knew, and 'died' while sleeping." That's the language of power as an end, 'unlimited power' as the 'weakened' Sidious screamed while slaying Mace Windu.
I always hated this because it’s an obviously stupid philosophy. Like just because you have the opportunity to kill someone doesn’t mean they’re weak or that you’re stronger than them. You’re just robbing yourself of the knowledge that the master possessed that you will now never know
@@4477superman Only if you are stupid. Remember what Palpatine said? "Unfortunately he taught he's apprentice all that he knew and when he realized there were nothing more to learn, he killed him while he was sleeping." That's the essence of Sith philosophy: You kill the master when you have learned everything, so now you are the master and by the time you finish teaching a apprentice, you have already discovered more things and you will pass that on and so forth.
@H1OB Irrelevant. The Sith have always had the code to usurp those above them who they deem weaker. Revan pointed out a flaw in the Sith that masters who trained multiple students would be killed by the combined efforts of those students, resulting in lack of real strength amongst the Sith. Bane learned from this, and created the Rule of Two to almost entirely ensure that the student could only usurp the master if they were truly more powerful. Bane did not invent the Sith ways, he merely modified them to make the Sith stronger.

Here’s how you fix it: don’t be racist, and be as unbiased as possible when it comes to talent. If you end up with a cast that’s mostly white, or black, or female, or male, but it’s simply because of the skill of the artists, then screw what everyone else “thinks”. Make movies because you enjoy it, not for the money. So I agree that they are taking advantage of the fans in order to make the most money, and in the process might end up ruining a well developed franchise, with no available redemption. What I was referencing is how surprised I am that Disney hasn’t made content that is more exciting than it is. If you look at this, the action AND plot is so well done, it seriously surprises me that Disney hasn’t capitalized on something even better by those standards, or is at least on the same level.

I see it as Fox trilogy, Lucas trilogy, Kennedy trilogy.
Each named for the driving force that made or broke it.
Lucas was not the sole driving force of the OT despite how he presents it.
He seems to be extremely butthurt even decades later that people like Empire Strikes Back more than the first film Star Wars/A New Hope that he directed and wrote the screenplay for - so I'd say calling it Fox trilogy is most accurate.
Having heard more about production problems plaguing the 1st film (it was supposedly saved from ruin by the editor, who Lucas married) I'm inclined to think that Fox took control away from Lucas for ESB and ROTJ - had they not done so I think the OT would not have done nearly as well as it did and the franchise might have died in the 80s.
2nd trilogy is ALL about Lucas and his megalomaniacal control of the franchise that led to inane screenplays that read like a child authored them, and extremely CG and compositing heavy film making style - also shooting on early digital cinema cameras which means that the live action elements for Episode 2 and 3 (especially 2) are always going to be blurry crap, no matter how much better resolution home video formats get (the OT looks dramatically better across the board in live action).
The Disney / Kathleen Kennedy trilogy on the other hand was controlled by someone who has little to zero creative instincts and was little more than production management for famous film directors like Lucas, Spielberg and Zemeckis.
To say nothing of having little understanding/knowledge of the franchise, or any desire to remedy that lack.
ie she is mostly driven by statistics / focus groups rather than any truly creative input.
Oh and a rather sizably overt gender politics agenda, but exactly how much of that was Kennedy, and how much was Disney's hyper female focused (single moms and little girls) corporate direction I don't care to speculate.
Her entire strategy was built on trying to copy the ADHD comical style of Feige's incredibly successful MCU while using the original trilogy actors shamelessly for nostalgia and giving some emotional whack to otherwise flat films when they killed them off.
The screenplays of Kennedy's trilogy acted on OT nostalgia as much as the use of its actors/characters and repeated many plot elements of those films at best slightly differently.

Honestly even though the game is nothing like these trailers, I first got into it because of watching them, and this one specifically. They're incredible. Some of the best Star Wars content that has ever been animated. I would watch an entire movie about the return of the Sith Empire and how that leads into the game events/timeline.

You had the entire Star Wars gaming fandom under your control. Millions of KOTOR lovers would have done anything to make SWTOR stay a major player. These cinematics were way ahead of their time and crafted with pure love. The original release was fantastic, an amazing story line on multiple characters for multiple playthroughs.
Then EA decided being everything we wanted wasn’t what they wanted and slowly SWTOR turned into what it is today.
But the beginning, the beginning was almost a dream come true.
Like Disney they fell to the proverbial Dark Side and sacrificed the craftsmanship and opportunity this presented all in the name of profits. What's ironic is if they stuck to what was working they would been absurdly rich anyway because of how numerous and potent the fandom is. Instead, they took gaming gold and exchanged for short term gains.
Funnily enough, the beginning of SWTOR was very exclusive. You HAD to have a subscription to even launch the game, let alone play it. You didn't get the first ten levels free or were stuck on your first world, you just couldn't play the game, period. They've since changed that, and I believe swtor's peak was the Knights of the Fallen Empire and Eternal Throne. Those were by far their best expansions.
@Jeremy Miller I got the Founder title, I got the game at launch. It 100% forced a subscription until they patched it out. Got in trouble with my parents actually for using their card and got grounded from playing because of it. Because of that and life slamming into my face, I don't know when they patched it out and made at least free to play until level 10 and restricted to only your starting world. They've vastly relaxed this though to only allowing to go up to I believe level 60-70. Can't go max level nor play the expansions unless you subscribe though.
The game failed because people didnt like the beginning, wtf are you on about? F2P is the only reason the game is even still alive to this day. You couldn't be more off the mark if you tried.

I was a little disappointed when these turned out to be the old trailers. I thought it might be a new one.
Will always be a timeless classic. I love this one so much. And seeing Satele Shan stop Darth Malgus' lightsaber with her bare hand is a power I've never seen any Jedi do before. It even surprised and shocked Malgus as well. Satele was insanely powerful.
A jedi stopping a lightsaber with her hand still fits with the original star wars cannon but. Darth Vader stops blaster bolts with his hand in Empire strikes back.
Actually my favourite lightsaber duel choreography in the entire franchise. Just beautiful. The save with the saber throw was so insanely well pulled off, saving his Padawan in a split second before she'd have been killed while simultaneously not leaving himself open to counterattack was just. . . *mwah* Chef's kiss.
SWTOR is the very embodiment of what makes Star Wars and the Old Republic Era fucking awesome.

The sequence at 4:10 has always been my favorite, the finesse of the movements, the calmness in our Battlemasters face, and that iconic music swelling to a crescendo. These trailers, and this one specifically, have always been PEAK Star Wars for me.

I get so hyped whenever I see the Zabrak Jedi catch the double bladed saber and go ham on Malgus and his master, how effortlessly he dual wields the saber and staff, switching between single and double blade. So cool!

This stuff was like cutting edge and really good looking when it came out, why should it be any less so after a few years pass by? Early 00s CGI looks dated, but by around 2010 CGI started looking fairly good. Avatar, for example, came out in 2009.

Kao Cen Darach & Ven Zallow are two Jedi masters who, along with Qui Gon Jinn, we don't get enough of. Also love where the Smuggler sees the troopers get shot at & killed making his whole demeanor change, no longer about saving his own neck but he's perfectly happy to blow away some Sith soldiers. Also that low key form of respect for Kao Cen that Malgus has before their final clash with that salute shows that even despite the hatred for each other both Light and Dark Side can show respect

I’m practically yearning for Star Wars like this again, one that has the movements in things from Lightsaber duels to the Force it’s supposed to, along with the appropriate sound effects if possible. No matter how much Star Wars is genuinely loved these days, we don’t see *this* anymore and a lot of fans don’t acknowledge the differences, only the lack of care, which is also good but only half of the equation.

This 6 minutes of Star Wars had more feelings than the Sequels ... and I'm loving it...Why can't we have this in movies?!
I love the contrast between Kao/Satele and Vindican/Malgus. Whereas Satele willingly hands her saber to her master so the latter stands a better chance, Malgus rips Vindican's from his hands for selfish gain.
I love that we see Malgus in his youth up to now in his prime in Legacy of the Sith. He’s a fascinating character to me. I’d be so happy if Star Wars made a more adult saga around the Old Republic with Malgus being a central villain throughout.
Malgus is more honor bound and practical in his own right. Definitely a worthy Sith.
