Hi Love from Nepal, Love your content you should definitely come visit Nepal and ride on the mountainous regions and have wonderful experience.
Wow! the difference between 2017 and now. It's awesome to see how far the team has come with their skill in making videos.
I love how you tell the truth about every product and not just a one sided story, keep up the good work
I live in Arizona, that’s how I stay dry
Love the honesty! Never stop!!!
First time viewing your channel. Informative, honest, charismatic, and high quality. Well done sir!
OK Ryan F9, since the Icon PDX I no longer exists and it is almost 3 years later, what is the new best wet weather gear?
Inquiring minds want to know, and what to spend their money....
3 years later world still wants to know
Hey Ryan F9! I wear a Roadcrafter from Aerostich. It's my go to for any long distance or commuting rides. When it rains I simply flip up the collar and zip up the vents. When the rain stops and the sun comes out I reverse those steps and enjoy the ride. With simple fleece liners I wear it to 40F, electric liners to -10F, above 75F I open the vents and get a total body breeze from ankle and wrist right up to the neck. Yeah, it's expensive, but it's been the best piece of kit a rider can buy for four season all weather riding for nearly 40 years. I have 60K miles in mine and it's not even halfway through it's lifespan! It is "form follows function" manifest as motorcycle gear; you won't win a fashion contest in it. Embrace it's unrivaled practicality and let the rest of the riders out there enjoy their cosplay while hunkering down waiting for the storms to blow by. You'll wave as you pass!
I got Scott 2 pieces and that is the best overall rain suit. It breathes and is waterproof. I ride many thousands of miles/kilomètres per year and rain doesn't scare me.
Your video and sound quality is great. Also, you have a really good presence on camera and a good voice. Keep up the great work man!
I stay really dry on my Ultra as long as I am not at a complete stop in a downpour. Hurray for lower fairings!
Hi Ryan! Can you please make an 2018 Rain Gear update video?
klim badland! ther are no shortcute to be dry!
awesome review. I like that dry pack. it looks like it would be really practical
Great review - thanks again
Dude you give Revzilla a run for their money on quality of reviews. Great job
The nice thing about Ryan is that he gives his opinion. When I watch Revzilla I'm never too sure about the product because they so rarely call out something for being crap
I totally agree with this. I like Revzilla reviews but in the end they are still a store trying to sell a product.
Revzilla is shit
Agweed
Fortnine is a subsidiary of revzilla
I'll give another vote for something with Gore-tex. I too messed around with waterproof liners etc, and switching to Gore-tex was a revelation. On my Klim jacket I can just zip up the vents (while riding) and not worry about the rain. If i'm not mistaken, the membrane is guaranteed for the life of the garment.
Also with rain gear I start sweating buckets (might as well be riding in the rain), not so with Gore-tex.
yeah he missed some research on this vid, but the put a lot of effort on it.
Sure, when I want to spend $1100 USD for a jacket alone...
I'm using Touratech Companieros suite and TCX Infinity goretex boots + Alpinastar goretex gloves. I've done many kilometres in the rain with that setup and never get wet .
In my opinion, nothing beats a 1 piece rain suit. My rev'it pacific suit stashes nicely in my backpack and I can slip into it real quick if it starts to rain or if it gets cold. No water gets in that bad boy.
Can you share what 1 peice rain suit you have? i like the idea of just pulling it out from back pack.
+CZcams Tv rev'it pacific
that shoe is brilliant
Everybody has a fav. rain gear. I know for me it is Frog Toggs. Top to bottom .Jacket, pants, boot covers, and gloves.
What would you recommend if not the new icon pdx for raingear? This is a great topic for those of us on the wet coast. Please do a another video like this but on jacket and pants!
Ok Fortnine, care to do an update now that PDX 1 gear is gone?
Hey Ryan, as I live in Sydney I got a redirect on the link to your boot covers and my malware warning lit up due to this: Peter Lowe’s Ad and tracking server list. Dunno if that's really a bad thing or if you can do anything about it anyway. Fantastic reviews, love your stuff you're as funny as a Yorkshire local.
Yes, please! Update this one.
update this video goddamnit! we need you!
I got tired of pouting every time it was raining, so I just bought a base model, cheap Frogg Togg suit to try out. If riding in the rain is fun, I'll likely upgrade to something a little more sturdy.
I agree with waterproof overpants. And I still have a Frank Thomas Aquaguard jacket. I use it as a waterproof overshell after discarding the winter liner. Waterproof overgloves are great. Waterproof overboots are useless. They fall apart quickly.
u can use TCX gore tex boots the best in rain summer and winter
Spidi rain salopette and the matching rain jacket.
Boots and gloves are gore tex.
Tell that truth I love it and now I know what not to waste my money on
Should really consider international shipping. I'm keen to buy just to support these tips and reviews. Only other option I have us to have a third party adding to cost
Annoying head but great video, always give good opinions and advice in your videos
What about fisherman's overalls to go over your everyday gear?
Anyone have any experience with this?
What motorcycle is that? Always see you riding it, and looks like a wonderful ride. Keeping an eye out for a first bike and would not mind checking the reviews of it.
"it's a 2015 V-Strom 1000" I am on the look out for one too. and I am thinking V-Strom it will probably be the 650 though.
It's almost scary, wondering how engineers or designers either don't see the downhill direction in which they are going, or they don't care (probably to make more money). I mean, wow!
I just wear a cheap pair of frog togs over/under my gear. They're not even real frog togs, they're like Ozark Trail or something, whatever the Wal Mart brand is. I have put a poncho and bungee'd it over the backpack before, but I've been looking at dry bags, my idea is a poor last minute option. I have hard cases so it rarely comes up.
I had some Ozark Trail rain gear that I had for YEARS. It wasn't riding gear, but damn that stuff lasted forever and packed down and stowed great. I still have the jacket but the pants bit the dust at the seem. I used to use them for my riding pants but now the wet crotch look is just too severe so I had to spring for some Rev It Sphinx pants. Jacket could never be used for riding because it has an open ventilation flap in the back but impressive gear for knocking around outdoors.
You seem to be doing a lot of doubting and betting that the new icon PDX raingear won’t work. I don’t have it so I couldn’t hold it in front of me and agree or disagree but I think you should probably try it in the rain.
I bought $100 ultra light rain pants from REI that are very thin and flimsy but work pretty damn well. This i paired with a $70 Helly Hansen light rain jacket from Costco. Together, these two things kept most of my body dry through a couple hundred miles of medium rain. I was somewhat damp but not soaked. Only my crappy boots and gloves were soaked.
Hi Canadians. Good info. What, in your opinion, is the best available one-piece rain suit?
jostego Frog toggs.
What are those boots at 3:38?
Can you make your website accessible for America?
Pants aside I'd have thought you would have a rain jacket in hi-viz. Reflective piping is one thing but I'd rather have the bright hi-viz yellow in the rain.
You said your raiden jacket is now "waterproofish?"
Yeah! Still keeps me dry for a few solid hours of rain, but isn't totally waterproof like it used to be. ~RyanF9
You just need to wash and reapply the DWR of your jacket, unless you crashed and damaged the jacket
Update needed
Under the nearby shade
Yeah but it looks cool
For stuff: Kriega...for me: two pairs of cheap waterproofs, gore text shoes, sealskin socks.
Just ordered my Kriega messenger bag from Revzilla today. Got sick of having to put my backpack under my rain jacket if I wanted to keep it dry. The Quasimodo look is unflattering. Prob wouldn't have dropped a buck and a half for a bag but I got a gift certificate for Christmas so I said wth.
Just get a 4 season jacket. A good one should be waterproof
where do you make your money?
Hmm, making everything worse while changing for change sake? Yep, sounds like Icon really captured the spirit of PDX.
I'm saving up for an indian ftr 1200 rally for my first bike. Why? Because yes.
And CLOVER jacket gloves and pants 5 years waterproof (arround 200000 km )
How I stay dry ?
I remove a big ass plastic raincoat , that I have been wearing for dozens of rainy season , it says 'Fancy" on the jacket , probably brand name , ever heard of it eh ?
Gave up on boot covers, they eventually leak. Waterproof socks are way better.
this guy looks like Harley from the series harley and the davidsons!
Liked the video, but "Elasticated"? Elasticized.
wat motorcycle does he ride?
It's a 2015 V-Strom 1000. The one in that back of the video's :-). We put it there during the winter and filmed a bunch of gear reviews since we couldn't get on the road.
Haha! Move to the UK. You will be able to ride all year round! :)
Or California :D
Or Florida!
It rains in florida
Shame on Icon
This would have been a fantastic video if it were titled something along the lines of "my choice of rain gear".
Still good content
How do you keep visor from blurring and fogging up!! Horrible Video coverage..
You've made several references to liking pants with leather on the inside of the knees for gripping. Yikes! My paint! Zounds laddie stay off my motorcycle with your boney leather-wrapped lower appendages. I assume that said gripping is done whilst one is airborne over stumps, boulders, and the occasional Harley riders.
Best rain gear of 2016. Then he spends half the video telling us how bad the new Icon PDX is.
Because at the time, the previous iteration of the PDX was the best and was still widely available. He was making sure people understood which version to buy.
@@cisium1184 Useless advice. At the time Frogg Toggs were far better than what was being made by Icon.
These days, it's hard to find decent raingear for a reasonable price as even Frogg Toggs has lost site of what they're doing. They used to make a very reasonably priced suit, but now, despite having the parts to do it, they just make a motorcycle jacket and you have to pair that up with one of their pants and one one of the bibs they make is reflective. And it costs like $180.
I live in Seattle and having the bottom of my back exposed to the elements just plain sucks.
Stay home, stay dry.
Best shit gear
First Video from you I thumbed down... Simply didn't talk about how to keep rain from either blurring end fogging up the visor to severly painful visor open riding due to rain ruining vision.
John Brown rain doesnt fog your visor, your hot breath does, and if you dont know how to fogproof your visor then its really your fault and you cant complain on a video about rain gear..
get a pinlock visor
incorrect title. "best" gear? you don't compare any product against any competitor, and a good portion of the review was how awful Icon's 2016 line is. you're just reviewing the few pieces you personally seem to own. correct your title.
whitedevil2 he has given you what in his mind is the best rain gear. It didnt say which company has the best rain gear.
Everything on this channel is an opinion. He's like the motorcycle nerd homie you ask about jackets.
Wouldn't you agree that it would actually *BE STUPID* if he was reviewing the "best gear", yet what he owns is not the one he's advertising for?
I mean, it's like presenting on a powerpoint that Microsoft is the best, when you're using an apple laptop.
Also, the title says best gear, not "comprehensive review of every available gear on the market".
A simple google search would reveal what the fuck you want. If you want the specs, you only need a few clicks to do so.
I stay dry by riding my car in the rain...
Cole McPherson you are a fair weather rider. got it...
I stay dry in my car
Utter garbage! Why would I ever wear waterproofs over a motorcycle suit? This is nothing but a marketing fad. How long do you want to gear up before you start your machine?
