    Hey Ryan F9! I wear a Roadcrafter from Aerostich. It's my go to for any long distance or commuting rides. When it rains I simply flip up the collar and zip up the vents. When the rain stops and the sun comes out I reverse those steps and enjoy the ride. With simple fleece liners I wear it to 40F, electric liners to -10F, above 75F I open the vents and get a total body breeze from ankle and wrist right up to the neck. Yeah, it's expensive, but it's been the best piece of kit a rider can buy for four season all weather riding for nearly 40 years. I have 60K miles in mine and it's not even halfway through it's lifespan! It is "form follows function" manifest as motorcycle gear; you won't win a fashion contest in it. Embrace it's unrivaled practicality and let the rest of the riders out there enjoy their cosplay while hunkering down waiting for the storms to blow by. You'll wave as you pass!

    I'll give another vote for something with Gore-tex. I too messed around with waterproof liners etc, and switching to Gore-tex was a revelation. On my Klim jacket I can just zip up the vents (while riding) and not worry about the rain. If i'm not mistaken, the membrane is guaranteed for the life of the garment.
    Also with rain gear I start sweating buckets (might as well be riding in the rain), not so with Gore-tex.

    I just wear a cheap pair of frog togs over/under my gear. They're not even real frog togs, they're like Ozark Trail or something, whatever the Wal Mart brand is. I have put a poncho and bungee'd it over the backpack before, but I've been looking at dry bags, my idea is a poor last minute option. I have hard cases so it rarely comes up.

    • @nitemareman1
      @nitemareman1 Před 7 lety +1

      I had some Ozark Trail rain gear that I had for YEARS. It wasn't riding gear, but damn that stuff lasted forever and packed down and stowed great. I still have the jacket but the pants bit the dust at the seem. I used to use them for my riding pants but now the wet crotch look is just too severe so I had to spring for some Rev It Sphinx pants. Jacket could never be used for riding because it has an open ventilation flap in the back but impressive gear for knocking around outdoors.

  • @xvillin

    You seem to be doing a lot of doubting and betting that the new icon PDX raingear won’t work. I don’t have it so I couldn’t hold it in front of me and agree or disagree but I think you should probably try it in the rain.
    I bought $100 ultra light rain pants from REI that are very thin and flimsy but work pretty damn well. This i paired with a $70 Helly Hansen light rain jacket from Costco. Together, these two things kept most of my body dry through a couple hundred miles of medium rain. I was somewhat damp but not soaked. Only my crappy boots and gloves were soaked.

      @@cisium1184 Useless advice. At the time Frogg Toggs were far better than what was being made by Icon.
      These days, it's hard to find decent raingear for a reasonable price as even Frogg Toggs has lost site of what they're doing. They used to make a very reasonably priced suit, but now, despite having the parts to do it, they just make a motorcycle jacket and you have to pair that up with one of their pants and one one of the bibs they make is reflective. And it costs like $180.
      I live in Seattle and having the bottom of my back exposed to the elements just plain sucks.
