Paiste proves that b8 is a great cymbal alloy. Other manufacturers just relegate it to the low end and don't put as much effort into it as the higher end cymbals.

Personal opinion here. I don't like the sound of Paiste b8 cymbals on their own (i own a few) But in the mix with rock music, an 18'' thin crash wether it is a 2002, PST7 or even PST5, they sound delicious.

That Paiste 900 has sweet ping and a surprisingly nice wash. Both riding and crash are very musical IMO. Bell cuts through really nice. May be a bit light for hard & louder music, but most other types I see this doing the job nicely. I may have to lay down some chips and add one to the arsenal. Nice demo all around.

I had a 19" Avedis Zildjian Medium crash, with such unusual overtones with a beautiful medium long decay, and a 21" Avedis Zildjian Ride cymbal that were both stolen from me by, of all people, Our Manager. We were doing film and television soundtracks at the time, not playing out as a band, and this guy who I had placed my trust and love in for sooooo many years, just up and f**ked me over! That was years ago, but this shit happens! Always keep an eye on the people who are in your orbit, supposedly "looking after your artistry, whether as a "Manager," a "Publicist," or as something called "a Lawyer." Be careful, composers! Do your homework before you ever release one tiny piece of your compositions!!!!

The Sabian and Paiste were rock/metal/funk rides.
The Meinl and Istanbul were jazz/prog/folk rides.

The cymbals will also sound differently in person, although this does give a good contrast between these particular ones in the same setting. My personal preference is the Sabian Medium Brilliant. Yes, I also have the Zildjian and it is nice -- but not as nice as the Sabian. My crash cymbals are Zildjian and all of them are up to over 50 years different in age.

Probably not my very first choice as the most musical cymbals but they have a very good profile that I think will work well in rock settings and they come in 4 colorsound choices! Nice collection of cymbals. I recently purchased a Meinl Byzance 22" 'Vintage Pure Light Ride' which I like a lot and is now my 'go to' ride cymbal for most applications. I have a collection of cymbals most of which I acquired used, came along with used drum set purchases, or even found in garage sales (and would you believe I found a few good ones..like Zildjians..out by the road in people's trash!) I have purchased only a few of my collection new at full retail price the Meinl ride being one of them. Tried it out at local drum shop and just had to have it. By the way the finish on that Canopus kit very similar to the Ddrum 'SE Flyer' kit I bought two years ago..I bought the version in the natural ash outer ply finish. Great little kit.

Once again, it's the Paiste and Meinl brands that blow me away. They both have these razor sharp overtones that I LOVE to hear. I tend to fall for sharp sounding cymbals and while the dryer cymbals can be so bloody PERFECT for recording, I'm thinking more about performing cymbals on a stage. Sabian and Zildjian might as well just join forces, they sound too similar to me, like "one and the same." The European cymbals are the ones I really like.

Yes, as some of us know, Zildjian is made by one brother, and Sabian by the other. Their father taught them both, but one brother makes Zildjian, and the other Sabian. S, a, and b are the first letters in his children's names, thus Sabian!

Cymbals that should have been demoed here.
Paiste Giant Beat Multi, Formula 602 Modern Essentials Ride, Signature Mellow Ride, Twenty Masters Medium and Dark crash rides, Signature Dark Energy MK I, Signature Traditionals Light Ride, Big Beat.. They're some of the most versatile, crashable ride cymbals around !
But yes, I know., There was only room for 5 cymbals 😋

After having owned more than 60 or so ride cymbals and countless crash cymbals, my favorite all-purpose-cymbals are a
    Dream bliss 22" crash-ride and a
    Istanbul Agop 20" Om crash
Both come with a superb crashed sound and a nice bell. They sound great when taped up as dry jazz rides or when played with rivets. I use them for every style and play them in almost any of my live or studio setups.

The Paiste 900 was surprisingly good considering that it is a mid-range product. I would have used the 2002 20" Ride in this comparison. It is a really versatile cymbal. The Istanbul and the Meinl (although I never really fancied them for some weird reason) were the best. The Sabian was lifeless for me and the I felt that the Zildjian was missing a "sound profile".
By the way...are you selling Bosphorus as well? They came out with the Philly Joe Jones ride. Others drum shops demoed it and it sounds great, but your videos are usually a lot better sounding than anyone else's.

    • @rhythmcaster2018

To my ears, the Meinl rides tend to have a too much integrated sounding bell but many drummer love them obviously. I just kinda used to Zildjian and Sabian distinctively brighter bells even for their darker rides.

Nice sounding cymbals, my number one is a 20” Zildjian K Left Side Ride. Perfect for me, ride is midrangey, bell is clear, and I like the sustain or “cushion” afforded by the rivets. It crashes beautifully, too. I favor it over my EAK 22”, Kerope 22”, vintage A 21” Rock ride, vintage A 20” crash ride, and Istanbul 21” Mel Lewis. That’s saying something.

    I liked that first Paiste.
My personal all purpose ride is their 20" Signature Dry Ride. I got it used in 2014, and it was made in 1991. I use it all the time. I can play jazz to metal with it, and can make it work. It has definition, I can "bob" it with the shank on the bow, and if you switch up the stick, new dynamic possibilities are available. It's kind of "semi-dark", and warm, but the dryness gives it some definition.
For the jazz I'm using a Regal Tip 7A, and for louder music, Regal Tip Groovers. Between these two sticks I can get a lot out that one cymbal.
The last jazz gig I played, the guitarist actually remarked on the attributes of that cymbal.
For heavier music I usually go to the Paiste Dry Dark Ride.
