    Zildjian K has best combination of bell ping, clarity of stick attack, but great wash on the crash! HHX wasn’t bad either.

    • @redonred0924
      @redonred0924 Před 2 lety

      I'm a long-time SABIAN truther who ALMOST made the switch to Zildjian because of the K Sweet line. Having owned a 23" K Sweet Ride in the somewhat recent past, in my opinion, it was a touch too thick to crash on. Maybe it's because I play with 5As, and needed thicker/heavier sticks? I also never played a 21" like what is shown in this video. The bell, and bow of the cymbal are great though, I'd have no issues using the K Sweet Ride in a rock/hard rock/metal situation if I didn't have any better options.
      The K Sweet Crashes on the other hand? Garbage. I immediately looked for other options, and found myself back in SABIAN's sweet embrace with the HHX Complex series. It's really a night and day difference. The 22" HHX Complex Thin Ride might be the most versatile cymbal I've ever played. I play in a local classic rock cover band, so it sits great in the mix for that type of music, and it crashes so buttery smoothe that I let it double as my right-side crash during gigs.

    The best washy ride that I've ever played is the 20" AA El Sabor by Sabian. I don't know why they no longer make them, but I LOVE mine. The bell is nice and cutting, due in part to it being unlathed. The bow is nice and defined, and because the edge transitions to being quite thin with a slight downward curve to it... it washes and crashes fantastically. Most versatile ride/cymbal that I've ever owned.

    Hi Guys!!! Thank God for the internet, ehyyyy!!??!! Meaning, that in order to get little snipits of several different Ride/Crash cymbals like you guys just did, sure beats the alternatives of buying sight unseen from a "Craigslist"/ newspaper ad, OR as it once was...!! And that is, hitting every music store for a hundred mile radius and hoping they had "that C/R cymbal" you want, only to find out that they do, but it is USED and Wayyyyy over priced, like my band and I are supposed to pay the rent on the stores "prime" location!! 😳🤣
    I guess there is always the NAMM show... but after the airfare, hotels and restaurants, plus waiting to the last day for "the right deal" to happen could make for a very expensive cymbal!! BUT SERIOUSLY, I appreciate what you guys have done here by putting several of these little gems under the drumming microscope and presenting several
    good choices!! HOWEVER, I do have one small request which may represent, oh say, maybe another fifty thousand drummers...🤔 or at least that many!! And that isssssss,
    give both sides of the proverbial drum stick a chance to share the
    spotlight!! Do that by using both WOOD tipped and NYLON tipped
    drum sticks (especially) when showcasing a Ride or a Ride/Crash cymbal, because there is a really big difference in timbre, respectively, with each type of stick!! By using each type of stick, you have drove your own perspective buyer's list up by fifty percent...... I mean, ya know, just saying!!
    ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER ROCKERS!!!!!
    PEACE 🤘🏼!!!!!

    Shocked at how good that Wuhan sounded. I don't think I've heard anything but their chinas, I'm impressed. I also loved the Dream, but prefer the Vintage Bliss.

      I'm quite fond of the Wuhan traditional. It's literally all I play, mostly for budget reasons (cheapest hh b20 on the market so i rep them hard). I will say Wuhan does lack a decent bell. It crashes very nicely. Has dark crunchy trashy characteristics. But I'm now looking at wanting to trade up on my primary set. For the price though, Wuhan has treated me very well.

      @@saneneweyes6189 same but with stagg though ive heard they arent as cheap as they once were

      @drinkinouttacups2665 yeah Stagg isn't is as cheap as they once were, but they are also more consistent than Wuhan. However they do sheet and cast, where Wuhan traditional, as far as I'm aware is all cast. I dunno about 457 or whatever that line is called, but I know they aren't b20.

    to me :
    1 - Istambul Traditional
    2 - HHX Thin Ride
    3 - Paiste Giant Beat 21"
    Special mention for Dream Bliss

    I have owned 5 meinl and cracked 2 ( I play ligh). Super inconsistent in weight within the cymbal itself (always crooked on the stand / hat clutch). That’s why they crack. Paiste big beat in 24”. Winner if you had it in the shoot off.

    Blind hear test. I find it easier to listen for which ones to eliminate first:
    Zildjian K Sweet Ride, Wuhan Thin Crash Ride, Sabian HHX Thin Ride
    I then went back and listen blind for what I like. Meinl is the best followed by Paiste

  • @MrNickDrummer
    @MrNickDrummer Před 3 lety +3

    I've listened to this without watching and the K Sweet was my pick out the selection presented here. It's not in the video, but probably a 20" Paiste Giant Beat Multi would have destroyed the competition.

    Just use a large crash cymbal as a ride.
    It doesn't have to be labeled as a ride or crash/ride to be used as a ride.
