I actually got to see Tonya skate at an exhibition I went to. Her jumps almost stopped my heart. You cannot appreciate the height she got by watching videos. The tips of her toes were almost flush with the top of the barrier. most skaters start the rotation of the jump the moment they leave the ice and finish it on the way down. Tonya delayed the rotation and jumped straight up and started the rotation at the apogee of the jump. She was amazing.
Even in videos, it's impressive. It's not like we have a long list of ladies since her than CAN do a triple axel and most that can only maintain it for one season and then it's gone. Gosh, it had to be hard training with all that heckling from the mall crowd.
Actually its a technique. Plenty of others jump that way and it has become quite popular these days; basically you dig into the ice using the edge created by your blade which gives you more spring and lift. There are a couple train of thoughts on how to jump triple Axel. You should check it out 👌
Let's put the Triple Axel aside for a second. That was an inconsistent jump for her, it was special that she was EVER able to do it because it was unheard of in women's skating and, even nearly 30 years later, is still a bit of a unicorn. She was a technical pioneer for that, but whatever. Tonya Harding's TRIPLE LUTZ remains as the most powerful example in execution of that jump. Ever. Nobody ever talked about it, they wanted to talk about the Axel. But the massive height combined with the delayed rotation and the stick-straight unwavering landings with room to spare she caught on those was absolutely unreal. The Lutz was the most difficult jump any of her competitors were doing and she was doing it far better than them. The Lutz is still the top standard in women's skating -- it is STILL largely the most difficult jump being performed regularly aside from a few Russian 12 year olds. Nobody ever talked about Tonya's because hers was athletic, not pretty. Even now, no woman can do a Lutz like that. I can only imagine what she might have been awarded for a Grade of Execution under the new scoring system.
I don't really see this as a 'fail' video. I think she's doing pretty good and being fun with a great attitude. This was a great video, and I guess at the end she falls quite a bit.
😅😅 , she was failed a lot. Thats how vvhen u dont realize that she still need to growth.. (buubs) after all throphy she got in 90's at usa competition and foreign
as someone who is on the curvier side, I love Tonya’s body and I admire that she didn’t conform to the stereotypical figure skater body. She wasn’t as thin as a stick & she was perfectly content with that. She was able to mix grace & athleticism together beautifully.
Oh yes, this! Nowadays she would have been deemed obese for elite figure skating, because modern skaters count on being skinny and light to jump high and rotate fast. She had muscle. That's truly impressive.
It's the fault of all those many stick boy-girls these days in ladies figure skating. Unhealthy. Tonya was healthy and not in any way obese. Don't forget she is only 5'1' and a real athlete. And don't forget television adds around 10 pounds to a person's weight and build. So we should be more concerned about those stick thing girls in skating because it shows they are too thin.
She's all the way around in the air. Triple axels aren't easy and when you consider she isn't raining regularly, this is really impressive. No fail here!
Not a big fan of Harding but what I find amazing about her is the fact that she has such a fuller non athletic body yet was able to be so athletic on the ice. It's amazing how she was able to get so much height on not only her triple axel but on all her other jumps as well. Tough competitor. 👍🏾
I'm not sure what body you're looking at but she has an athletic body. She is very toned and in good shape. Her body is more athletic than most female skaters.
I used t be insecure about being short and having thick thighs but seeing someone such as Tonya have the same features made me feel so much better both about my chance at being a skater when I’m older and my body
ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?? She had some one be assaulted resulting in broken bones! all for greed of that exact sport she almost had some one killed for
Chantelle ilich i tonya isn't proof. No one knows. The movie is based off her story. It's like saying all movies that says "based on true events" are real and true
Her right shoulder was not alligned with the rest of body, it was facing downwards. That's why she fell on the 3A's and almost on the 3S. As a figure skater myself you are not aware of this until someone tells you (since its like an automatic movement of the body) but its pretty noticeable when u see others. Notice how just when she touches the ground her right arm is down instead of either closed or forward and how the shoulder is a little behind compared with the other one, combined with her trademark premature opening of the jump... instant fall even tho there were textbook jumps And then once she decided to slow down, she lost power and could not fully rotate the last 2. Pretty sad, if someone had told her about that Im sure she wouldnt have had that many problems that day
Do you mean the part where she is vilified or the newer narrative that paints the portrait of an innocent victim abused by her mother and ex husband? Very few people were buying the victim nonsense back in 94.
No god but Allah Islam way for peace and the real monotheism Search for the truth and right way with honest heart And ask him for the right way for his mercy.
My whole body hurts in sympathy for her whenever she falls - it really hurts when you fall on ice and for her to keep getting up like that when others would’ve gone off crying goes to show her true strength
i just realized her approach to the axel is almost like shes doing a lutz with a long edge.. most would approach the axel already on a forward edge then jump.. maybe thats why she was so inconsistent with her triple axel
I will not make excuses for someone who has done anything wrong! We don’t know what really happened, but we do know she knew some how what happened or what her husband was plotting. A woman who is close to her husband talks about everything. From the looks of it she was very close to him. That being said, allot of celebrities have done worse things and have come back from it. So we should just move on and let her live her life.
@@chriscoyne9717 This is definitely no earlier than the summer of '94. She had breast enlargements here - they were done around the time she was filming her part in "Breakaway" which was about this time. Plus, the mall was being remodeled around then as well - you can see the construction work going on in the background. The red skirting board that is visible around the bottom of the rink in footage from early 1994 is also gone here.
As expected. She just kept jumping and falling and got back up and repeated . With loads of bruises. No fancy devices to catch her falls like the skaters these days. Tho she did something not to speak of. She was still a great pioneer imo.
I never felt so much love. I didn't want to be filmed. There was another on interviews? I'm both Tonya Osana Katrina I'm Alamater. I'm in Juliet and singing as Gloria Estafan. And I was filming as Fergie this week.
She was too slow to land them :/ comparte the speed of her jumps before 1994 to this, they do require certain speed upon take off to be able to rotate and land them.
Wonder what or who made her slow down. Probably just lack of training or will or personnal problems even tho you cant really let that get to you when your ... Professional or just regular human with big ambitions or will or life perspectives wtv u call it
She's out of shape here. Not fat at all, muscular. But not lean enough. She had issues being tilted on this jump. It's easy to do. That's why she falls on it. Since '92 Olympics that was the issue. Had to do with weight
Tonya: *jumps into oblivion w her height*
Also Tonya: *screams when being held upside down for a minute*
That's adorable lol

I recieved a world record in jump for Irish jigg under a different name. Holly.

She did during the peak of her competitive days, this was after she got banned, watch some earlier videos, she was much smaller
i think she has one of the most beautiful bodies i've ever seen
She's like five foot what would be the appropriate weight naturally looks thicker on her

Wow she jumps really high on that triple axel
To fall like that and just keep doing it again and again. This woman is amazing.
She's all the way around in the air. Triple axels aren't easy and when you consider she isn't raining regularly, this is really impressive. No fail here!
“Sounds like most Friday nights tonya I don’t understand “ lmao
I can’t stop watching her! She’s such a strong fast skater. It’s just second nature to her! Such a natural born skater! She’s to be envied & admired!
She is my favourite skater.. athletic and fearless.
how can she still try again after these big falls? I would be a total wreck after just one fall like that!!! She is a real bad ass girl! I love her!
The people in the commentary section have great admiration for Tonya Harding!
The fact that she was able to still attempt at this point is pretty awesome.
I love her. I wish i could go back in time to watch her compete! 😊
Wow, she gets so much height! She's definately one of my favorite skaters!
THIS LADY IS AMAZING AND BOY SHE JUMPS SO FRICKIN HIGH SHE'S FLYIING
I love how expressive she is.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Tonya Harding!!!

Dee Zyre non athletic? She’s muscular as hell. Those thighs may be thick but they are made of steel.

What a backhanded compliment 👎🏼
Hello. Have u seen her muscles?? That’s why.
She is heavier here than when she did the triple axel
It’s at Clackamas mall. During her time she was there all the time practicing and drew huge crowds. It made the mall very popular at the time.
She was damn fine
girl was hot af
girl was hot af
IKR OMG
I used t be insecure about being short and having thick thighs but seeing someone such as Tonya have the same features made me feel so much better both about my chance at being a skater when I’m older and my body
This is how you learn. Falling and falling and falling but never giving up.
Who made this video?
OMG her 3A is Massive. This shows that building muscle and eating well to nourish the body will give you a good longevity in terms of jumping.
LOVE YOU TONYA
One of the most beautiful women EVER!!
Vincent M yea whatever!
barf!
Laurie Mcguiness haha. Yea right. Natural beauty!
Dawny Mae 😲
Opulence Phoenix ????
I feel sorry for her. She didn´t deserve to get axed from the sport.
Same. There are way way worst cases in other sport but still allowed them to compete and these athletes performed the crime
ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?? She had some one be assaulted resulting in broken bones! all for greed of that exact sport she almost had some one killed for
nuclearthreat545 no ones bones where broken. She got a bruise and was back on the ice within five weeks...
Chantelle ilich i tonya isn't proof. No one knows. The movie is based off her story. It's like saying all movies that says "based on true events" are real and true
Nancy had a bruise, no permanent damage was done

Triple threat TONYA!
Queen Goddess Tanya Harding, ladies n gents.
she landed it in competition in 91
She's a tuff cookie
gosh she looks sooo good there, I'm totally amazed, I'd have clapped even after she fell.
i'd like to see some of these people try it!!!! you have NO idea how hard it is unless you've done it!!!
who is she skating with at the start of the video?
God, Tonya's story really has become the apotheosis of revisionist history. It's quite remarkable.and definitely a reflection of our current culture.

Vox triple axel video trending on CZcams sent me here😀
She’s amazing fun talented all that out of a shitty childhood she’s not bitter
Pretty funny! When was this recorded? Around 95 or 96?
+tide32athlete October-September of 1993
Yes I’d say after 94 Olympics for sure. Looks ‘95
"sounds like most friday nights, tonya"
xD was that her husband?
I wonder that too?
She had a banging figure!!! I remember her getting so much flack for being curvier than the other skaters.
She’s such a crazy person.
i just realized her approach to the axel is almost like shes doing a lutz with a long edge.. most would approach the axel already on a forward edge then jump.. maybe thats why she was so inconsistent with her triple axel

What did she do
Tonya Harding is the Evel Knievel on ice... Evel Knievel has crashed!
Killer body
This is September-October 1993
kjkjklj no way, this is probably late 1994 if not 1995. Her hair is longer here and her body is bigger

I want to skate with her. She would be fun to skate with.
Behind of success

SHES STILL MY QUEEN I DONT CARE
If you weren’t born before 1990, your comments DO NOT COUNT!
I was born in 1983 and I love her. I loved her (even though my mom hated her) when we watched her in the Olympics.
Why is this in my recommendations is it fall out boy?
Shandy Leng same
Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea
Fueron muy injusta con ella
hot bod
So many comment but the sub.?
My question is, what is she wearing?
Uh, it's called a leotard and tights. Where are you from ... somewhere on earth?
I know. I'm not an idiot, it's just ridiculously hideous
Hideous, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. I think she looks fit and fabulous.
The height of 80s fashion
Lol I agree. I think it would be better if she put the tights over the leotard... If it was nude it would be fine but not the black....
She's not getting enough speed.
+fat2fitFruitNVeggieChic no she has enough speed and height. She leaned and that threw her rotations off and her balance off
Noice! Yes, very noice!
she reminds me nicki minaj lol
Ikr!
sexy
dude wtf
Damn straight hot as hell
If one plays brutally unfair, then one does not deserve to be allowed to compete! A triple Axle loses its appeal in the ring of such brutality!
thunder thighs
She to big to do couple skating, she would have been better at women's roller derby
I saw her porn tape. Not impressed-at all.
Maybe bc he got paid to do it and she didn’t know
if she didn't get the breast implants she would have landed that.
Truth! Bc in 94 olympics short program red dress you can clearly see she was so flat chested
Breast plastic surgery
Surprised she didn’t blame it on her laces
She's out of shape here. Not fat at all, muscular. But not lean enough. She had issues being tilted on this jump. It's easy to do. That's why she falls on it. Since '92 Olympics that was the issue. Had to do with weight
