- Two-time Olympian Tonya Harding admitted to Ellen she's glad she's not competing against the current group of figure skaters. Plus, the former athlete revealed what "I, Tonya" got right about her life.

No matter if she was a part of it or not.
NOBODY CAN TAKE AWAY THE TRIPLE AXEL FROM HER.
3 and a half too
😹😹
I love her!
Tonya will always be one of the greatest in skating
Enough said, point blank periodt. No body can take this away from her!
There’s a reason nobody’s making a movie called “I, Nancy.”
Trueee
Be Nancy didn't hire tough guys to beat up her competition
gh0st url1 AND TONYA FIDNT IDIOT
Omg is that Naomi Campbell in your profile photo?
gh0st url1 Tonya didn’t her husband planned it and she didn’t really know about it
I love that Ellen treated her with kindness and non-judgment.
Really?
Because she understands her background. Her mother made her think violence was okay. She chose to see her beauty.
She's a lesbian, she shouldn't judge anyone!
Mareike Pfahl what kind of comment is that. What does lesbian have to do with it
@@alyxbell5946 Right. But I'm guessing Mareike thinks that, since Ellen's a lesbian, Mareike thinks that Ellen wouldn't judge Tonya to quickly because Ellen wouldn't want others to judge her (Ellen) for being a lesbian. Sorry if this is confusing. It's hard for me to make sense when everything is packed in my head.
She looks so at peace with herself, I never saw her like that. Good for her ^^
Yup. That's actually the real proof. And you can tell she's such a genuine person.
Now I really have to watch that movie.
better be careful u might get hit in the knee
@@gabbyb3622 wow
I remember I saw in the news once,i think wrestling or boxing to make a living because nobody wanted to no her. A bit like Ellen went through
TONYA HARDING DESERVED BETTER
Yasmeily Toledo yes she did
LESS!
Yasmeily Toledo well she should've hired better muscle to break her competitions knees. Not suprised she's would be scared to compete today, her past actions show how scared she was of honest competition to begin with.
Fax
Wtf
I loved the movie. It's the kind of movie you watch when you're having a rough day. You can really see why Tonya performed so badly at the 94 Olympics, who could handle that kind of pressure.
Have An Ice Day obviously she couldn’t since she order a whack job of her competitor.
Lol The fact you believe that she's guilty without question shows what kind of person you are.
No sane person could even perform with that kind of pressure and conflicted relationships she had
Russians can. Russian figure skaters. And they had and they will have. Because it’s another school of figure skating in general, I guess. People expect from you more and you don’t have any minute to hesitate.
@@donamills863 it was her husband not her
If she was allowed to coach I'd LOVE to be coached by her, she's a natural not only at skating, but at coaching...despite Andy's hilarious fall, he picked up the basics really fast
I think she would be an amazing coach! But she's not allowed to coach ever. That was part of her punishment for telling the truth about what she knew or more importantly what she didn't find out until after Nancy was attacked. You know, she could have kept quiet and never said a word but she chose to tell the truth; that she did know who attacked Nancy after the fact but was too scared to say anything because she was threatened. Tonya was in just as much danger as Nancy. It's really sad when people are punished for the truth because authorities need a head to hang on their wall :(
She would end up crushing ur knee
Why isn't she aloud to couch? I understand not competing but why not couch. That i find unfair, i think one of the top skaters and they through her talent out the window, a women doing the triple axle and not being able to use it. My understanding is she did it two or three time in compation, after the famous first.
Miki she wasn’t safe enough to. Her boyfriend would have found out and hurt her and she was scared
she'd be a great MMA coach
I felt bad for Tonya. Nancy was rich and known as “America’s sweetheart”. Tonya grew up poor and being called “trailer trash”, completely different life’s. I feel bad that Nancy’s knee was injured, but there are two sides to every story. At least Tonya is like able Nancy has a bad attitude and acts spoiled.
Gabrielle Forbes not true they both grew up poor but Nancy’s family was stable
Nancy wasm't injured...she was attacked.
Not really true. Actually, Nancy grew up in a working class family as well. Her dad worked three jobs to fund her skating career. Just because Nancy was beautiful and succesful does not mean she was born rich. I wish the movie would show this, but I guess that would change the agenda of this movie.
There still no excuse. When people knock you down, show them you are better. Don’t publicly ATTACK someone to ruin their career just because you are afraid of the competition
S 3 it wasn’t even tonya’s fault? The attack was thought up and executed by her stupid (ex) boyfriend and his group of stupid friends.
I honestly feel like even if tonya did the kerrigan attack (I don't think she did), she deserves to be unbanned. She didn't deserve to hated for so long.
agnishwar banerjee agree. That was too harsh of a punishment
stock holms syndrome
I agree. She pleaded for a jail sentence instead. Taking away someone's sport that they've worked there entire life for is a life sentence
You are delusional. I don’t know if she did it, but if she did, she fully deserved to be banned for life. Physically attacking a competitor to gain an edge is fundamentally against the spirits of sports.
She definitely didn't hire the guy or plan out the attack. She knew she was good and that would have taken everything away from her accomplishment of making the Olympics. Maybe some penalty for withholding after the fact information but definitely not the lifelong ban. I do feel that overall Kerrigan was more polished a skater though but it was very close for awhile.
She's an absolute sweetheart, I wish she could be a coach
That judge shouldn’t have been able to ban her shame on him
She cant?
Not gonna lie after watching I,tonya and some of her performances she really inspires me to become a skater
Lol
If you want to be a world class competitor you better start soon. Tonya started training at 4.
@@Janellabelle yeah, but Johnny Weir didn't start until 12....
@@Janellabelle it's never too late to start skating. That kind of mentality is damaging.
me too but i’m 17 so too late
I love her respect to Midori Ito in correcting Ellen that she was the first AMERICAN to land the triple axel :) Tonya has great class
Yes!!
I LOVED THAT! 100% respectful and educated in her craft. An absolute LEGEND.
What an inspiring story. To have lived through so much abuse and prejudice and still manage to keep yourself together and be the best and even afterwards to move on with your life with grace and dignity. I'm glad her life turned out so well. She more than deserves it.
You must be talking about nancy Kerrigan, no?
LOL Rick, exactly. It goes to show how easily morons are swayed by a movie. Should Tonya be vilified her entire life? No. But we shouldn't try to turn her into some sort of hero. Let her get on with her life but don't turn her into a role model or feel-good story.
“Keep her life together” *has Kerrigan publicly attacked, because she is afraid of the competition*
What about Nancy Kerrigan what the heck I can understand why Ellen is interviewing her but bring on Nancy was the one attacked and her knee got butched y'all are praising the wrong person I guess there is forgiveness but I guess the saying goes easier to forgive and forget. I mean you might not have grew up when that happened but hey people are eating Tide pods..
I would not watch this movie if free! She is trashy, never been graceful and a serious jealous trouble maker. What she did to Nancy is unforgivable! Movie should be made about Nancy who got the beating not her! 👎🏻
*after she got banned, Tonya still stayed strong and continue to do the sport that she love, you can tell that she still really enjoys skating and still practice it alot*
Dude look at her, she hasn't been on a rink in decades
@@erictyson5947 uhmmm no there’s photo of her in the rink 3 years ago
I honestly really, really, really like her. I know we shouldn't judge off first impressions but she seems like a much more genuine, humble, and generally good person than she was portrayed. Such a sweet girl, horrifically treated by the industry for her background and looks, I admire her so much.
Love Tonya.. She's a great athlete and person... P.S. Margo Robbie should get an Oscars for this movie (she's marvelous in it)
chanoknan angurasaranee great athletes don’t go around ordering whack jobs on their competitors.
Dona Mills she didn't
Franciszka Stones she knew about the plot. She confessed to that and didn’t stop it.
So, Franciszka Stones, how does that equate to "ordering" it?
couldnt agree more but she was too "new" for hollywood
Ellen treated her so well and with kindness. Tonya deserves to be treated that way after what she went through. And just like everyone else who is a fan of her, I want to give her a 5 second hug and then take a selfie with her. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long before it's my turn in line.
I sure love people who try to cripple other people. So cute!!!!!!!!
Mk K4013 Proof?
Mk K4013 #1 She was never crippled and was able to perform in a week or so.
#2 Tonya was the better skater which gave no reason for her to even try to do this.
#3 It was her ex husband who actually committed this crime due to him being undeniably obsessed with Tonya .
Not saying that Nancy wasn’t hurt or denying her pain but Tonya didn’t even do it. I’m just wondering where’s your proof, when Tonya was a better skater when watching the videos of her skating.
She's strong. Always admired her despite what happened. I've been with a bad boyfriend, things happen.
I wish people would understand that no one knows the real true story. A lot is he said she said. Not to mention she’s not the one who attacked Nancy Kerrigan and there is only so much you can do to prevent something from happening. If she was truly guilty, she’d have been put in prison. I’m not denying that hindering the prosecution was bad because it was but she doesn’t deserve to be treated so badly when she already paid the price by getting her national title stripped. She is truly talented and despite what she did or did not do, she should be recognized for her talent and how positive she is today.
But Tonya Harding pled guilty to a conspiracy charge in the attack on Nancy and admitted FINALLY after 24 years, that she heard her ex-husband and his friend planning on taking someone out to ensure that she made the Olympic team. She didn't report it which makes her an aider and abettor.
Cyprus, if it was my husband, I'd have tried to save him too. She agreed because she was tired. She was Soo tired of everything. Watch the movie.
i think she didn't report bc she's afraid of her ex husband
Cyprus she probably didn’t report bc he abused her
That's extraordinarily naive of ypu to think that everyone who is guilty gets put in prison.
The way her mother treated her as a little girl broke my heart into a million peices. I felt for her throughout that movie and still do. Also love how Ellen treated her.
Allison Janney is jaw dropping in I, Tonya
Ron Field Allison janney is a national treasure
Yep. She deserved that Oscar
Indubitably ! The film is filled to overflowing with excellent performances.....but Allison really does shine ! A well-deserved Oscar !
I was glad that Allison thanked her co-starring bird.
Aww ellen said everything I wish I could've told tonya. She seems to be a genuine person, I wish her the best.
I am happy for Tonya right now. She seems to have overcome the past and started a happier new life.
I have a notion to second that emotion !
"Glad she isn't competing against current Olympians" lol so are they.
can i get a miaowi!
@@jonathanfraser321 owi owi
Tonya Harding was the greatest skater of them all. I hope she skates again in a one woman show...I would pay big bucks to see her skate again.
baritonebynight yes i don’t really support what she did but i do support her talent it is what it is and if you enjoy it support it! She paid the real price for any wrong doings
what did she do
@@malaniclark1033 literally nothing. She told the police that her husband was involved in Nancy Kerrigan's accident and was punished for not telling them sooner
Beg to differ,Michele Kwan is the greatest skater the U.S. had. She has the most titles and medals. Way more than Tonya,Nancy and Kristi!
Janet Dishler but tonya was the first American to attempt and land a triple axel
I feel so happy for her now. She's so at peace with herself and truly putting the past behind her. It's horrible the way pretty much all of America shunned her and hated her and you can tell how happy she is talking about doing what she loved most and knowing it was taken away from her
Bad company ruins everything .
Its who you meet in life
She is such an inspiration. I still cannot believe the things she had to overcome. Just amazing.
My sister and I loved Tonya. When she landed that triple axel, we lived for her! I’m so happy her story was finally told.
I’m so happy Tonya is getting a shot at the spotlight she deserves. Only positivity from here on out. My respect to a great athlete & inspirational person. She was and is truly amazing.
She's such an inspiration, i love her!
Guillermo Galaviz WOW! Inspiration to do what? Whack someone? She confessed she knew about the plan.
Inspiration? SMDH
Guillermo Galaviz no she's a jerk
Dona Mills an inspiration to triumph against hardship and adversity to excel at your field. She's fucking incredible.
She didn't plan it nor did she do it.
Congratulations Tonya I was a young child when that happened i watched every single ice skating event with my family and i cried so much for you, i can't WAIT to get the whole truth, my mom and i knew there was more than we were told!
Seeing her skate with Andy was incredible. She still kicks ass on the ice!
Tonya killed it on Dancing With the Stars. Her last performance was dazzling.
Man, I felt so sorry for her after watching the movie. The life lesson here? Learn to choose the people that surround you wisely, because they can make you or break you and if they break you, you just might not ever be able to put those pieces of yourself back together again. I'm glad to see her doing well...
So who won in the end? And who cares about Nancy today? Ironically, Jeff did make her story last.
Paul Graneck Tonya triumphed in the end because of her character.
Jeff does not deserve any credit, he brought attention to Tonya at Nancy’s expense. Tonya stood strong on her own.
The only reason Tonya is being talked about is the movie!
Tonya won in the end, look at Dancing with the Stars, Nancy joined that show but she flopped early while Tonya enters the final as 3rd place on the following season.
@@loucipher7782 nobody cares about DWTS lol. Nancy got the silver medal in 1994.
Nancy won. She got the silver medal in 1994 and became part of the Hall of Fame in 2004.
I love this interview and I’m so happy Tonya finally had her moment to tell her story or at least give the world a glimpse after so much harsh judgement.
I can’t even put in words how much my heart is bleeding considering what this remarkable woman has been going through.
She’s such a good person and I’m so sorry that she is retired
I am glad to see Tonya back in the spotlight. Everyone deserves a second chance, maybe more. I hope she goes far with Dancing with the Stars too.
Tonya, we love You so much.
So natural, so strong and at same time so sad ...
And YOU are the best ever !!
My heart was breaking for her by the end of the film and it's such a relief to me that she seems happy and fulfilled at this time in her life.
Just saw the movie and glad to see her like that now - she looks like she is in peace with everything. Wish her the best!!!
Hi Ellen,
Thank you so much of giving Tonya a chance to expressed her true feelings.
She is imagine person and beautiful skater! My daughters skate the sand rink with her in the past months.
She is a very nice and kind person. We love her!
I just finished watching the movie today and it was amazing
OMG! the skating scene with Andy had me in tears, so funny, P.S. I love you Tonya and you are such an amazing skater!! Tonya reeks of beautiful talent
So glad she’s back and on shows and getting the attention she( Tonya deserves❤️ She was the best as far as I was concerned ! How strong of a child, teen to a young woman verbally and physically abused by her mom, and to still go out there and perform under the stress omg!! I would have given up! Tonya was and is as we see a strong willed woman to overcome the obstacles thrown at her!!! BRING TONYA BACK !!!!! SHE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN BANNED FROM FSA! They did it because she had the balls to take them to court to say HEY, I deserve that spot to go to the Olympics☑️⛸🇺🇸🏅
Tonya - I love you from a girl in Ireland, continue to get back in shape and skating and get on social media....you will be able to make a come back as a professional now! Please take the opportunity to shine again!
No matter ppl said about her so badly. She always be my inspiration when I get rough day.
She still has the same smile and that crazy look in her eyes , it's awesome to see
Hi Tonya Harding we love you here in the Midwest USA 'Michigan'. I will watch your movie soon! So happy you practiced hard and never gave up and made it to Olympics the highest honor an athlete can achieve. I was told by a person , often, abused people have become stand out athletes . Congratulations, you are the best ! I always believed you Tonya , you are a great lady!
My mother was very much like Tonyas. That movie really hit home. Good for her. I'm so glad she has a nice husband and son now
She is very inspirational. I really love her, she's all♥
After the movie, I have new found respect for Tanya. I was a teenager during the 94 Olympics. I believed whatever the media told about the case which tore this young gal to sheds. I hope Tanya find happiness in her life. I think the movie did a lot of good for her.
This was a great interview.
i cried a bit with this video because it was so beautiful to see her live happily and so lightly now.
I just saw Andy and Tonya and it was so cute, lol, she is such an amazing person and Andy is so funny lol, they crack me up.
He best be careful not to outshine Tonya, because he might get whacked in the knee.
Wow she is such an inspiration for everyone 💗
It's amazing to have a movie about your life story while you are alive, Because most of the personalities were dead when they made movies about them.
It's so nice to finally hear her side of the story. At that time I was still living in Oregon, in Salem. So obviously everyone was talking about it.
I definitely had a different opinion of her then, horrible. But hearing about her life, wow. SMH, its really too bad but I'm glad that she may be finally, coming through her storm
Nancy was far from perfect. She rolled her eyes at a competitor who cried for winning gold
I LOVE her, I’d feel proud to call her a friend, she’s incredible!!💕❤️
I posted one particular move Tonya Harding did and she literally catapulted herself in the air and was literally flying.. in slow motion, her amazing skating and athletic abilities are her own, she is FLYING... she is a skating flying ice Diva extraordinaire, watch some of her 'flights ' in slow motion , sometimes she is so fast you don't realize what she has just done.. I am in awe and star struck by her over the top , over the stars ice skating performances, and you will see how much heart she puts into her skating. Tonya is a beautiful woman, always has been , I hope her son has her spirit and keep skating Tonya.. I will be watching your movie this week so excited.

"Love yourself". That's right
No matter what she is an exceptionally talented skater. Life and emotions are something else. I hope she is happy and good
Ellen what a great interview and what a respectful attitude with Tonya
Probably one of the best interviews I’ve seen Ellen do. She was so respectful and kind to Tonya! ❤
Just saw the movie and Sebastian Stan was there for a Q&A so happy and grateful :)
Great thanks for the captions on English language!
I just watched the movie yesterday and it was soooooo good! The music, the acting, the setups, everything was very well put together
my childhood hero. I think I can safely say she's been back in my heart for a few years now, before the movie, but it was a great watch. she's great. I'm so happy she's grown so much.
Thank You Ellen for bringing her on 💘 for us.
Had people known what Tonya had to overcome to get to the Olympics and how her family life really was, they may not have judged her so harshly. She did accomplish a lot.
Tonya inspires me to do even more with my life. Everyone in my world now hates me for getting arrested at a party where I knew no one's last names. Possession. Nothing in my pocket, I'm arrested/charged/convicted. Everyone turned their back on me. The nation turned it's back on Tonya. My world is so much smaller. I must move forward and close the book on those who only want to see me die or any other bad luck fall upon me. My best friend died (I'm 49) and people made fun of it only to attack me. Aren't people great?
Stay strong. I know it's hard.
I love this two woman’s so freaking much! They bought are incredible !
Great to see Tonya in a good place. She's got an awesome spirit about her and is such a strong person.
I can not stopping watch the skating skit with Andy.. it brings a belly laugh every time!! Andy you sure hillatious and a GREAT sport!!! Thank you💜😂❤️❤️❤️
She is an absolute inspiration. Just amazing.
I agree 100 per cent !!
LOVE you Tanya. ALWAYS believed in you. SOOOOO glad to see you are finally getting the recognition you deserved. You are sOOOOOO talented and skilled. I HATE the way you were treated, from a young age, i NEVER believed in Nancy. I NEVER liked her. But more than that, i just remembered how you were treated. my life has been similar. I have great great respect for you on sooooo many levels. Keep on keeping on. You will always be my hero for all you have lived through.
I wish Ellen had allowed Tanya to speak more, but I'm glad to see she treated her respectfully. Sadly, she's been treated unfairly for many years.
I Tonya brought me here. Margot Robbie did a great job playing Tonya. Her mother was a monster and she suffered child abuse and abuse from her boyfriend. Tonya had a hard life and she didn't have any friends and she had no education and she became a boxer after being banned from skating. It was all she knew. Tonya Harding was the first woman to do a triple axle and Nancy Kerrigan was a drama queen! Tonya Harding wanted to set the record straight about her life and she did. Tonya Harding went through alot!
This movie was available on my recent flight, and I was excited to be able to watch it, but it made me cry, especially her sentencing, it was so harsh, so much more harsh than what Jeff and Sean received, and it's all because of the way the media exploited the situation for their own ratings gain. I'm not much of anything, and I'm not a good skater, but when I skate I feel so free, and to be told you couldn't skate any more, or do what you love any more, I felt that crushing blow, because I've received that cursing blow a few times in my life. I just hate the way the media takes people and warps their image for their own purposes, and people feed off that shit. They use school shootings, presidential candidates, they try to feed into the dark side of humanity, the schadenfreude of human nature. I don't watch the news, and I really try to watch my thoughts and opinions about other people, because I know people are judging me and drawing conclusions without ever even talking to me.
The movie was about ending as I was getting off the plane, and I was crying genuine tears if sadness over her story. The IFC didn't like her background or her story, but I think more people can identify with her than with the wealthy skaters with what appears to be more wholesome home lives. Tanya's story is way more compelling to me. It's just sad that she was going to try and spook the competition, that was a mistake, but we all make mistakes. She was one of my favorite skaters because of her jumps, and she had a cool Rock n' Roll biker kind of style. I remember what happened, and I hated all the media coverage, I found it annoying and it made me dislike both skaters. Thank God Oksana popped up just before the olympics, but because skating had such huge attention on it, it caused her to burn out and make a mistake that the media then tried to feed off of too! I hate it!
I have always loved and believed in you Tanya! I remember Arsenio complimenting your physicality and recognising all your accomplishments. You have lived the best. What a woman. Props. Motherhood suits you so well. You apply the triple axel expertise to everything in life. Props.
She looks so lovely. I hope her story is true and she found peace with her life. If we could all be so lucky to find a love and passion for something like she did.
"Tonya, you were the brightest
Yeah you rose from the ashes
And survived all the crashes..."
Sufjan Stevens
Tonya deserve more. It's horrible how they just crush her career completely. I'd be heart broken if it was me. She put so much effort into it. I'm glad she's doing great now
I enjoyed the movie. Good for you Tonya Harding. You overcame so many obstacles. God Bless
One of the best interviews Ellen ever performed. I am so happy and proud of Tonya.
Tonya looks fantastic! You go girl!
What an inspiration. She's a legend that got screwed by the media, tough life.
She is just so sweet. I know that this movie is kinda biased, but honestly I am glad that someone finally showed her story and showed what she has been though .
To be honest, I wasn't too thrilled you had her on your show....but your kind interview changed my mind. I haven't watched I,Tonya. I may now.
_I, Tonya_ will not change your opinion of Harding. But it will change how you feel about her. The film is a black comedy of Harding who left an abusive relationship only to get into another one.
She's so inspiring man I'm crying
Glad people are opening their eyes to her whole life. She lived a very challenging childhood and married an abusive loser when just 19. Now, she seems much more comfortable with who she is. A happy, middle aged wife and mother who was once a great athlete and still likes to get out and skate for fun, which is a great thing.
Love you Tonya! Love you Ellen and loved your skating with Andy!!! Was so good to see you on ice again and you guys were hilarious!!!!!!
I preordered the movie, can't wait to get it!
Tonya, a woman competes with herself, would never spend a second to plan any attack on her fellows. It is something those little people could never understand. I loved watching the game but never since the brutal decision made by the association.
Don’t generalize and be so naive.
Excellent point. She was too busy preparing for the Nationals to waste her time on that nonsense.
I know she done wrong, but god bless to her, she had a raw talent and no one can take that away from her
to be fair she's done nothing wrong
She seems to be at peace and happy, I am glad!
Happy for Tonya! It's about time you got your respect and light back. God sure works on HIS time.
