I will never understand where Marcus got the idea that a wider blade is better for thrusting/penetrates better. There's a reason all dedicated thrusting weapons that are known for their penetrating power are thin, like like heads, bodkin arrows, rapiers....

Old turk warriors were known for being fast and agile in combat and this sword fits their fighting style perfectly they usually wore light armor usually made of leather and had a small shield on the off hand for parrying and bloxking incoming attacks being able to handle such sword single handedly is simply amazing

But to make it super duper short: curved blades make thrusting from horseback easier (they swoop down when you're high up) and they follow the natural Arc of your arm better on a cut, so you get an automatic drawing motion. Downside: they are less intuitive with regular thrusting and thrusting is generally really useful.
Love to see a greater variety of swords getting covered! Hope this sort of thing inspires folks to include more varied weapons in their fiction!! Not everything has to be a fantasy/scifi version of a longsword or a katana 😆 Best positive example I can think of is Sir Terry Pratchett in his Dark Side of the Sun books had a type of scifi monomolecular sword called shamshir. They were pretty cool, even if they were anachronistic even in universe, and got used appropriately for that.

They tested the Kilij against a 🐖 carcass and not skipped a beat, the sword took apart the carcass in 3 strokes.

this "yatağan kılıç" is not for penetrate or pierce, it's intended use reap and cut out like harvester
