Shields are designed to take a hit, which means they will get damaged and broken. What you want in a shield is something that will take a few good hits, save your life, and be easy and/or economical to repair or replace, and i feel like that's where this shield fails. Bending the teeth back into position and gluing down the rubber edging is easy enough, but securing that window breaker would be a bit more difficult. Not sure how much it costs, but it might be one of those things where you just buy a few, cycle through and repair them as needed before replacing them.

If the crossguard lightsaber had been well thought out, it could have been one of the greatest lightsabers in Star Wars. Two simple changes: 1. Make the emitter out of lightsaber resistant material. Beskar wouldn't work because Mandalorians would never share, and Cortosis would short it out. So pull from the EU and bring in Phrik.That way, your opponent can't just slash downward and destroy the hilt. 2. The crossguadd is supposed to be a really powerful lightsaber. That's why it needs the vents, so the excess power has somewhere to go. So take another concept out of the EU and give them the ability to break standard lightsaber blades like the synthetic crystals Sith used in the EU. That would make the lightsaber so much more unique and a reason why they weren't in the Prequels and more of an Old Republic weapon. They could have been a weapon specifically designed for combat against multiple lightsabers and could only be used by highly skilled Jedi Lords and Battlemasters.

I thought they had the cross guard for centuries, like 450 AD to at least 1350, if not 1450, and beyond. There's a 5th century Hun art depicting rhe rider with a cross guard sword. In later Medieval times, didn't they just add to the cross guard or does that make a new kind of guard?

It wasn't exactly abandoned some rapiers have it as a way to block slashes (I think that is what they are used for) and the saber guard is basically a bent Crossguard but yeah it isn't the best but with rings on the sides it is definitely better than a lot of sword guards.
