Just adding some context. He would probably have gotten even deeper than me with a sword like I was using.
    That sounds weird... #martialarts #history

If Scott Sr. had done it, that sword would have gone through anyway. Have you seen that guy? I'm half convinced that Scott Jr. survived his accident because Death took one look at his dad and said 'Nope!'.

Easy answer? probably not a very good sword

Not really sure what he would have to gain by deliberately failing. It's probably just that, while he is to some extent a knife guy, he isn't a sword guy.

maybe it is just me or swordtubers make better modern vs medieval armor/weapon tests than guntubers
more often than not, guntubers use either cheap decoration armor and wallhanger swords to use against guns and modern armor
while swordtubers use legit swords on legit modern armor or legit authentic armor repros against guns (like when skallagrim tested medieval helmets against various guns, surprisingly 1911 can't penetrate them lol)

    • @koiledPythonRain
      @koiledPythonRain Před 4 měsíci +8

Probably because guntubers can tell good kevlar from bad and good guns from bad whilst swordtubers can't and swordtubers can tell good armor from bad and good swords from bad. The issue is bad/prop swords and armor are more visible than the good ones and guntubers don't have the expertise to tell the apart.

He used the shtty flex ones (the ones mostly selled on the market are *purposefully* made to be like that, so that when people are using them bluntly & with a "coin & cork" tip, they may never accidentally stab through them & hurt each other.
It is the directive, but it is also possible to get hard versions with less flex (but higher fragility to shatter) from Your blacksmith, or by just modifying Your bought blade on Your own 💜
    Edit:
Use a stiff & hard rapier to basically make a shish kebab - similar to the result of using a dagger: once You poked a full entry (which is *incredibly easy with a rapier), it just goes *all the way through,*
    *less stuck on the spine.

That brings the question, what would be the best sword/blade design for combatting modern body armor? Of course the awnser differs heavily depending if you are talking soft body armor or hard rifle rated plates.

@@asahearts1 That's going to mess with their aerodynamics. The closest thing to what you are talking about are fin-stabilized flechettes, tiny darts which are loaded into the cartridge using a plastic spacer known as a sabot which detaches as the round leaves the barrel. In theory they should be extremely effective, in practice not so much.

It also just purely depends on what class of body armor was being used. A lot of lower class bulletproof armors do not protect against glades, whereas there are blade resistant stuff that doesn't provide any bullet protection and a lot of the stuff that ends up having both tend to be made using ceramic or steel

@@mrsexy5680 because a sword that’s 100% rigid is one of two things
overly hard and thus prone to shattering or, overly thick and thus very heavy.
the flexing also helps to reduce shock to the hand.
