We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In this video I frame up our doorway and show you how to add a door to an existing wall when it's already been framed and installed. I also come up with a fix to a problem with my roof rafter bird's mouth cuts... all in preparation of installing our wood T1-11 siding next.

When I built my workshop last year, I also decided after the fact where to put my door. Walls are 2’ on center, so like you, started with a 46” wide opening. I used a 36” steel door that I found at the Restore, so I had to downsize my original opening. It was my first time starting with just a slab - a lot of work, but it turned out good. I did consider building my own door, but wouldn’t have saved any $$ or time since the slab was just $25.

You sound pretty knowledgeable about what you are doing. I always used cheap(er) clear plastic to throw over the subfloor until I got the project closed in. Thanks for adding the bloopers at the end. You got to keep your sense of humor to make life enjoyable.

Hi Sam. I've just built a workshop/shed in my back garden here in England. I did the same thing with the birdsmouth over the double top plate. In order to get the OSB sheathing on the walls I ended up kind of extending the birdsmouth with a multi-tool so the OSB slid up into the notch. That worked out really well, in fact sorting out where my original birdsmouths were sometimes a few millimeters too big.

You're very observant... I really don't second guess myself that much in real life, but have evolved into coming across that way in videos due to the amount of flack that is thrown at us on social media. This channel is 6 years old and my workshop channel is 3 years old. Across the two, the amount of junk that comes across every day apparently affects how we present things. It's easier to play the novice vs. coming across as a know-it-all or being snobby to people. We take full liberties of our "block user from channel" functionality, but only for the worst of the worst. You're a channel member, so you've gotten to see the sneak peak of siding! ;) That video will be edited very soon and released early for members too. So not very long... Thanks as always Darlene!

No way of knowing if you're the first to notice or just the first to comment, but your observation is very pinpoint and accurate. :) I've actually been off my supplements for a bit over a month and have an appt coming up this week for more lab tests to be run to assess if further diagnostic tests are needed. Iron deficiency anemia runs in our family, so I have been on iron supplements for a while. But this (new) doctor wants a baseline check without supplements to check other things. I have noticed a big difference since stopping the supplements. :-\ Here's hoping answers are found out this week and it's nothing to require further concern or procedures. Is it never cold where your homestead is I see the kids and Angela only wear sweatshirt tops sometimes not even that I would have thought that with all that open country around you the wind chill factor would make me cold.
Being British I wouldn’t know where you are and what sort of weather you have.
    Great video.

We travel over for work trips on the warmer days. :) Right now highs in the daytime are in the low 30s (-1 C) and lows at night in the 10s (-12 C). When it's that cold, we tend to do day trips over to work during the day and go back home at night. That being said, the forecast shows warmer temps coming back to the region in a few weeks to average daytime highs in the upper 40s (5 C) which will be nice work weather. :)

Why not check out places like Goodwill or a salvage company to see if you can buy a used exterior door and go from there.
