- We bought a $5000 2003 Dodge Sprinter 2500 with the OM612 Mercedes Diesel engine. We thought we got a good deal on this fixer upper , but it turned in to a over budget and over time project. We had to replace so many things and catch up on a bunch of maintenance. All the fuel lines, transmission fluid and filter, oil and filter, brakes rotors and pads, tail lights, injectors, fuel filter, belts, tensioners, and many more things. Vans like these are going for over $10k in my area, but we spent a lot of money to get it to daily driveable condition. There are still a few things left to do, but we are happy with the progress. I wish you were a mechanic where I live! So many dishonest mechanics here. My fiancé is not a mechanic but he’s smart (he fixed my 1980s IBM Selectric Typewriter, and several other typewriters) and he is gradually becoming a mechanic by default because we are tired of dishonest mechanics lying to us. There is a great video on YT of how a ceaftsman fitted one if these out as a luxury compact camper with shower, toilet, sink, fridge and stove for $10K. Worth eatching even if you do not want to pursue that.

When replacing injectors you normally have to progam the ECM with the new values that comes with each injector.
Not with these murks usually but im sure there is some kinda trim reset in the ecu
Thats a common rail diesel, and YES the Benz needs coding to have all cyl. working in ballance. There are even a couple of Sprinter videos on CZcams showing it.
The OM612 is not very fussy compared to the OM647. But you are correct the injectors do need to be coded for each cylinder
Got a question for you got a 2009 bmw 528i with 259k on it. Idk if the trans filter or fluid was changed ever should I change it. Also got a passenger airbag light on it.

Lmao I’ve used them before and definitely agree they are awesome. I’m a sucker for good deals and since it’s not a necessity I probably won’t buy one til I find a good deal lol

Why not just buy 6 injector washers and send all 6 injectors out for a clean and flow test? And yeah while youre there the glow plugs are a great thing to take care of. But i always thought those see through mercedes fuel lines on the diesels were awesome for diagnosing fuel problems
That’s a good point, I will be sending the two injectors I removed to get refurbed and see how they turn out before going that route with the rest of them.

I should’ve taken my own advice and researched the parts prices before we bought the om612 sprinter lol. A couple years back it wouldn’t have been an issue 😂
