    Great video sir! I am a new owner of an 04 Dodge Sprinter with the Mercedes 5 cyl. turbo diesel. I have never owned an vehicle that was a diesel, so your site should really come in handy for me. You mentioned during your video that you purchase your oil filters at a place that is really cheaper but never mentioned who or what that company was! Anyway to save cost, I'm right on it. I will be looking forward to doing much of my own maintenance on this vehicle. Oh yes, this is a Pleasure Way Class B motor home!

      Yep I pay just little over $7 bucks here is the link amzn.to/2OB5am0 the parts store has it for $15 and up, Mercedes about same, but I never pay full price, I always save on parts, BTW here’s fuel filter for just $20 bucks amzn.to/30j4SFL you must have a spare fuel filter with this sprinters, when they go, your van will lose all power and will drive very slow, my advice drive to a safe place and replace it

    • @ZimaletaMotors
      @ZimaletaMotors  Před 6 lety

      Cool, it might be good but it’s not necessary and I herd that it actually can do damage

    • @skylinefever
      @skylinefever Před 5 lety +1

      I am a fan of some Lucas products and not others. Foaming of gear oil can be a problem, and it also makes engine oil heavier, unless you buy SAE/API Lucas oils. However, Lucas transmission additive is great for failing transmissions. It can help you get a few more miles out of them. I added nearly 10,000 miles to my grandmother's 2003 Chrysler T&C van's failing transmission.
      I also use a shot of Lucas gasoline additive because it is cheap. My car calls for 91 octane or more, but most Florida gas stations have 93. A few discount stations have 91 or 92 octane fuel for much less money. By adding the Lucas, I can make up for what the cheaper gasoline might lack.

    The plastic lip on the filter cap should touch the top of the filter housing, and the filter cap should be torqued to 25nm

    • @ZimaletaMotors
      @ZimaletaMotors  Před 8 lety +1

      thats good to know thanks for this knowledge, any good place to get the right filter key to put over top of filter cap, one that would not get stuck on it, i have many different choses but i seen some get stuck on the filter cap and thats not fun to get off i had 2 of my friends just leave it stuck, and it would not be to bad if they can at least use it next time but instead the place where the ranch tip goes is to thin, I never torque my filter cap, but i dont know who does, but you do need to hand tighten it all the way, like you said filter cap should touch the filter housing, but this is meant to be advice for someone that wants to change oil them self and for it to be a simple DIY torquing it is not for everyone but its good to know how much torque to use if someone does want to do it that way.

    • @skylinefever
      @skylinefever Před 5 lety +1

      Some companies make swivel seat adapters that have holes drilled for aftermarket seats. However, if your van has side air bags in the seats, you can't install them.
      EDIT: Also, those swivel adapters are pre drilled for stock Sprinter seats. You might get a good price on a low mileage OEM Sprinter seat and pay less than for some aftermarket seats.

    • @ZimaletaMotors
      @ZimaletaMotors  Před 6 lety

      Why would you need to drain coolant? I think you will
      Be fine just draining oil, пожалуйста

    • @skylinefever
      @skylinefever Před 5 lety +1

      It is essential to drain the coolant when changing the oil cooler. The oil cooler in many Sprinter engines is a heat exchanger that transfers heat from the engine oil into the antifreeze. Therefore, it is important to drain oil and coolant at the same time.

      +kelvin sun yes it is Mercedes, you can't change Mercedes Badge and call it Dodge or freghtliner when Mercedes built it

    • @ZimaletaMotors

    • @Ksun_C63s

      how can you tell if it fails or water gets in? also are these vehicles reliable? mine currently has 105k miles on it

    • @ZimaletaMotors
      @ZimaletaMotors  Před 7 lety +1

      +kelvin sun this Vans are more reliable then new ones, but everything breaks, some more then others, if you really have 105k you have nothing to worry about, but take that with a grain of salt, here's why, if this is true miles, it was sitting allot, Fuel injector failure is possible, due to contamination buildup, but not to worry it's just a possibility, but I have hard time believing it has 105k chances are it's over a mill like mine, but if it's true that it's 105k then congratulations it's a find, I wonder what you payed for it, reason I don't believe the miles it's because this vans are used allot and even with normal driving you can put on 20-30k miles per year, so it don't add up, I drive 10-15k per month and mine is 1 million 160k and it would have been much more if I drive more often. You know this van when reaches a million miles it starts to count over, but I am not saying it's not possible to have this low miles, I have a friend he got one 2 years ago with just 27k miles lol you know I did not believe it, but when I looked at it, it looked consistent unless some one really trying restoring floor Mats Dash board parts pedals and under Engine including seats and paint job looked immaculate, this van was used as an office for a security company and he payed 27k for it cash, I think he over payed, and gues what 10k miles down the road he replaced the fuel rail, fuel injectors and high pressure fuel pump, this happened when he just got fuel, and tried starting his van and it would not start, plus he used fuel injector cleaner, before things went south, so it must off broke off some deposits and contaminated fuel injectors, this was a costly mistake, my advice don't use fuel injector cleaner, but if you do want to clean then you can use held a quart of transmission fluid just pour in fuel tank, but with this miles I don't recommend it, I say drive at least 50k get a feel for it then do it if it's needed, but I don't use any additives Fuel or my Oil, but to each its own, I don't recommend using Lucas in oil either it's bad for sprinter.
      How to know if Fuel filter is bad? The van will shut off while driving especially when it's hills and sometimes it won't shut off completely but you won't have throttle either, this will happen if water gets in from bad fuel or just gets dirty with time, hope this helps

    • @Ksun_C63s
      @Ksun_C63s Před 7 lety

    Please give me an advice on buying a Sprinter that has 16+1 seats,or 19+1. I will use it only in the E.U.to transport people! from what i have understand,the best ones are until 06-07,and those whit 2.7-3.0 liters....the newer ones are not as good! do you agree?

    • @ZimaletaMotors
      @ZimaletaMotors  Před 7 lety +1

      +Ady ADM yes I agree, new as not as good, not sure how it's in EU But in US This Sprinter were sold from 2002-2006 in 2.7L 5 Cylinder Diesel Model, 04-06 is Same Parts even do 2002-03 are same Engine Size, But different Parts so I Buy 2004-06 Its much Easier to work on them, for the most part you don't need a Dealer, but 07-09 it's 3.0 V6 Diesel Model, it's Not a Bad Model, They don't have DEF System with is good, But they do have Particulate Filter in US maybe in EU they don't have Particulate Filter, it's Bad if it has it because it gets Clogged Fast and to Buy a New one it cost $3500-4000 just for the Part, But Not to worry I Successfully got rid of it on my 07 and it did not give me any problems I used the Van till 380k Miles, and The Engine and Transmission did not give me problems, so it might still be a good Chose, for the Life of the Sprinter, But 2006 2.7 5 Cylinder model is more Fuel Efficient I get 24MPG to 26.5 MPG But on 3.0 Diesel Best I got Consistently was 18.9MPG I drive allot and Fuel cost is important Hope this Helps you Make a better decision

      2007 was the first year for the 3.0L DPF engine, so a 2006 or earlier would be preferrable. Although the 2007-2009 3.0L engine was larger than the 2.7, it produced more horsepower, so you had multiple disadvantages and few advantages. In 2010, the 3.0 DPF engine got a 30 horsepower increase, so it might be preferable.
      I'm considering an RV that is 2010 or later.

  • @serenity6988

    What is the name of the control and sensor that tells the engine to dump fuel for pdf cleaning? I think this sensor is bad. And where is it located?

    • @ZimaletaMotors
      @ZimaletaMotors  Před 6 lety

      It’s nox sensor I believe and there’s 2 of them located on the exhaust pipe

    • @skylinefever
      @skylinefever Před 5 lety

      If it is the sensor that controls DPF regen, it is probably a backpressure sensor or a differential pressure sensor. Backpressure rises as the DPF fills, and the computer orders an active regen when backpressure exceeds a certain value. NOX sensors are used to determine how much DEF must be injected into the exhaust system to remove NOx.
      I'm not sure where those sensors are located because I spend more time on the 6.7 CTD, 6.6 Duramax, and 6.7 Powerstroke diesels.

    I was shocked at the cost of oil changes...I was told simply "its a diesel, its a mercedes engine" etc. I've been out of work for a year now and was wondering if I could change it myself. Thank you for this video, I will change it myself today! Do you have a video to change the fuel filter? I think I am supposed to change it with every 2nd or 3rd oil change. I am not sure when it was also changed. I get very good km's with this van. I really like the mileage but it is expensive to have repaired. I had to have the computer changed one time after I replaced a headlight. I did not shut the van off when I changed the headlight and there was a tiny spark. After that I noticed my tail lights were out on my trailer. I changed the fuse for the tail lights then tried to pull away and it would not come out of park. :( I had it towed to a dealership and they said they had to change the computer! Ouch!! Its been ok since but was 4000.00 for that repair.

      +Chris Fullerton BTW about changing head light bulbs I change them at a Gas Station sometimes and I don't shut the van off, but I do turn of the lights when I change head lamp bulbs and I never had problems, I think when you changed it and the Van would not go out of Park it was not the computer But a Break light switch about 30-50$ part under the Break pedal at the top of the break pedal leaver and it could of been the immobilizer, went out or getting bad signal from ignition antenna or the key, if it's not working properly you can get starting error plus it won't move out of park, it's a common problem, it should of cost you $500-800 not 4K, some sprinter problems look hard but sometimes you just need to think and figure out what went wrong to property diagnose the problem, but I would not ever say it's computer unless everything else fails, you could not have fried a computer with changing light bulb it's impossible, you would just blow a fuse, there are fail safes in place not to fry the computer, only time it's possible, if you put the battery cable on the wrong way then it will spark bad and enough reason not to connect it wrong, I feel bad for people that get ripped off for no reason just because it's a Mercedes my Goal is to have all the information available to everyone around the world, and it won't be long i will make all the videos and more, Thanks for watching please let me know if you have any questions, if it will be really complicated then I will just make a video to help better visualize the problem

      Hi, thanks for that information...I really had to wonder if that was a correct diagnosis but I couldn't argue against them. I was using the van for work at the time and needed it back on the road. Its hard to find people to work on Sprinters in my neck of the woods...Its supposed to have a new computer now. It would be interesting to find out if it has the original computer! Maybe I could get some money back lol! It was a couple of yrs ago now. I finally got my oil cap off today. I needed to take several trips to Canadian tire to buy oil cap wrenchs. This last one is a cap that fits over the oil cap. I watched another You tube Video on how to make that one grab. You need to mix a small amount of sand (make kinda like a paste) and put a tiny amount inside the "remover cap". Then it grabs and came off very easily. I must tried 6 things to get it off including ropes, nylons, hand strength (which only hurt my wrist!) Theres not much room to use anything. I tried a version of the grippy things you have but they just slid. Onward!!! Gotta take the oil out now :)

      Your welcome, 20mpg is normal with allot of miles but even with 450k you should get 24+ mpg, today I checked mine and it was 25mpg + but if you ask me I think it’s Fuel Injectors, Fuel Filter, EGR, Air Intake and Oil changes

      Is your's a regular van or RV? Sometimes an RV is much less aerodynamic than a standard Sprinter, and maximum fuel economy suffers because of it.

      @@skylinefever You're right Sky. I bought a used Navion/Sprinter RV last year and drove it back from FL and never got better than 17MPG. What I want to know is WHY I'm getting current drawing from the engine battery when the key is OFF?

      @@remyfla You will have to research how to do a "Parasitic draw test." It involves a DVOM and messing with fuses.
