- Adam reflects on the life and recent passing of his dog Huxley and we share stories of our pets. It's also the season of San Francisco's Sketchfest, and we catch ourselves coincidentally in the same place of a random West Wing rewatch. Give your pets an extra hug tonight, everyone!

Good boy Huxley
I listen to still untitled at work and this one broke my heart. It was everything I had to not break down crying. I'm so, so sorry, Adam.
It's wonderful when you find people like Adam that understand our pets are FAMILY.
Didn't know I'd be crying during a tested podcast but here we are.
Usually with this podcast, I laugh, smile and appreciate life. This time I got to cry, smile and appreciate life. Thank you for sharing this with us. 😌🙏
The cruelest thing about having a dog is the shortness of their life. That's why you need to give them extra hugs whenever you get sad thinking about it!
RIP Huxley, you were a Good Boy.
I think we all will agree. --> “Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.” - Agnes Sligh Turnbull
RIP Huxley
1st was Bob, a collie, had him from a pup until he left us 19 years later. 2nd was rescue, another collie, called Shep. He was 4 or 5 when he came to us. He left 8 years later. We had another rescue after Shep, an cross Lab GSD called Rocky, an older boy maybe 8 or 9 they reckoned when we got him. We had a great 7 years with him too. You never forget them, and never get over them. They are only a part of your life but you are usually all of theirs. Treasure every moment you have with them. Crying now, can’t help it.
The first time I heard this episode our beloved cat Micky was very sick. He had kidney failure. Now a few hours after he passed I came back to this episode to hear Adam talk about Huxley again because it's gives me peace.... and maybe our beloved pets meet in heaven now... all the best for all of you reading this. Thank you for listening.
and now im crying at work... heartbreaking but kind story. thank you for sharing Adam.
Just over a month ago I had to let go of one of my dogs, and it has been one of the hardest things I have to do in my adult life. She was only 5 years old and developed a terrible medical condition she was unable to recover from. Adam's story had me sitting at my desk crying first thing in the morning.
To whoever reads this, I hope you have a wonderful day.
Wholesome
Adam's story about having put to sleep Huxley brought me to tears. I had to put to sleep my cat Rainna a few months ago and it still guts me that she isn't there anymore ... 23 years of her constant company, greating me at the door and sleeping on my chest or legs or just near by ... she was never far and I know she loved me as much as I loved her. With a cat if they spend all their time with you you know its because they choose too be. My heart goes out to Adam & his family for the lose of Huxley, he was a beautiful dog.
got misty eyed listening to Adam talk about the passing but his attitude gives me so much hope for when I have to deal with my own dogs eventual passing. Thanks for showing me how to deal with loss with such dignity.
We went through the same process with our dog over a year and a half ago. As Adam describes it I'm still tearing up because I understand and remember every bit of what they're going through. Big virtual hugs to the whole Savage family.
Hey Adam, I'm really sorry to hear about Huxley, thanks for talking about your experience. I lost one of our cats earlier this year but I never got to say goodbye having moved to NZ. I'm glad you got to have that closure.
Hugs all around to everyone who has lost a loved pet. They are part of your family and you miss them with all your heart.
12 am and now I'm reliving the fact I was unable to be with my dog when he passed. Hug your pets and love ones, and don't be afraid to be with them at the end. Take care everyone.
I had my boy from the day he was born till the day he died at the old age of 21 years 38 days and i was inconsolable and cried like a baby for 2 days. I miss him every day. A good doggo can never be replaced. Remember them well
I can hear the greed in Adam's voice when he talks about how his belowed Huxley went over the rainbow bridge, but I also have to admire how he can control his emotions in front of people. When I was saying to my GF how my previous dog went, at one point I couldn't talk anymore and started to cry like crazy. And it was almost four years after his passing.
I'm always crying when someone tells story like that, I'm sure you gave him the greatest life any Dog could Imagine!
I wasn't expecting an episode of Tested to make me tear up, but here we are.
I lost my dog in September 2019, only 5 days before her 13th birthday.
She was the first pet I ever had.
Man's best friend is right.
She changed my life.
She was there for me through many hard times and I will be forever thankful for the time we had together.
People without pets will never understand the loyalty and love they give you.
I hope to see her again when my time comes.
The hardest thing about having a pet is saying goodbye.
I'm sorry for your loss, Adam.
Huxley sounded like a wonderful friend.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
It is always painful when your fur children crossover. When it is their time to go, it is comforting when you can send them across that rainbow bridge with love, gratitude, and peace. 💕🤗
A dog I dogsit has terminal cancer he is very thin and frail he could go any day. I felt this so hard. I have never loved anything as much as I love this dog.
I think some of the most amazing dogs I've seen lately were on a movie called Boundaries (something like that ) where the main lady just couldn't keep from rescuing doggies. Oh, and of course mine, who is McNab/ and Boston Terrier mix. She love taking care of my sheep, and looking for little critters. Oh, and she adopted me ! Long story.
So sorry for your loss, dogs are some of the best people I have ever known.
My affection for you Adam has just increased 10 fold while this was the most emotional episode ever I respect the love you have for your pets just as I do I have been in this position many times now and is the hardest thing we have to do as pet owners
Dam it you made my eyes leak, 2 years ago we had to say goodbye to Callie. She was with us 17 years.
Can’t even listen to this.. lost my baby boo about 6 months ago.. only 10yrs bless her.. F&@k cancer! 😭
I was gonna do my renderings in a coffee shop but I try to limit crying in public to about once a week...
On a serious note, all, every one of my heroes are animal lovers and that includes you Adam. As pained as I am to hear about your friend passing I'm glad to know someone I admire cares this deeply about their pets.
I opened this at work expecting the usual and instead I'm crying at my desk.
Adam so sorry for the loss of your family member it's so hard, I lost my rescue dog whilst away as my father died I'm so glad you got your chance to say goodbye
My condolences on Huxley's oassing. 😢💔🐶
Were coming to that point with our dog, I think this year. Over the years we have had several beloved animals as family members. It's always hard to loose them. I think your looking at what he added to your lives is wonderful and the best way to remember him as a family member.
Didnt expect to cry this early.
Thank you for sharing such a truely moving and personal event from your life. Not a bummer, but a celebration of a life well and truely enjoyed.
I felt it exactcly as you have descrived, Adam. Much LOVE for you and all your family from the deep of my sould.
So sorry for your loss. People don't realize how much of a part of your family pets become.
And yes, rescue dogs are awesome. We have one.
Damn it adam, you made me cry.
Get home from a late night of work, turn on YT, and then the feels flood in.
I miss you, Duke. You were a good boy and I was a pretty absent-minded teenager, but that's no excuse. You deserved better, especially in your final hours. I miss you and you were a good boy. :'(
:'( I am choking up listening to the story about Huxley's final days. Sounds like he was a good boy! You made the right choice Adam.
My grandfather would tell us that he expected the first thing he would see in heaven would be all his dogs throughout his greeting him with wagging tails.
Re: The West Wing: In the first season, the set was 2 soundstages. Only the Central Hallway was duplicated. After, season 1, it was a complete single soundstage. The set's press room is not where the real one is, but the set's other offices and rooms are approximately where they should be. They made an artistic choice to have a ton of glass separating the offices and cubicles instead of the mostly window-less actual interior.
Source: DVD box set extras, and several in depth interviews from youtube.
As someone not from US, West Wing did a lot for my understanding of how the US federal goverment and politcal system works (after subtracting some of the TV drama).
It's been a while, but I thought I remembered hearing that they reduced costs by reusing some of the set from the movie An American President for the 1st season.
I'm sorry about the loss of your doggo, Adam. It's never ever easy but it sounds like you did the right thing and gave him a GREAT life!!! I also think you held it together a lot more than I would have telling this story.
Hey Adam. TY for sharing about Huxley. My eldest dog Hallie is dying of cancer, i'm really grateful to have had the time the medication has given. I plan to have her there with her pups, hopefully at home as you did
Im so sorry for Adams loss. I could only make it 7 minutes and 50 seconds before i had to just stop because i was remembering when i had to put my cat of 15 years down and how i wish i could of made myself stay with him till it was done and i broke down crying. I think i have to pass on this weeks episode catch ya next week.
Oh my goodness. So sorry for your loss, Adam. Your words were beautiful.
So sorry to hear about your loss. We said to good bye to our 14 year lab and 13 year old swissy this summer. So hard to lose those most important members of your families.
Oh Adam. So sorry to hear about your puppers. I just recently put mine of 13 years down in October. Very sad. It's never easy. My condolences to you and your family.
Love Laurie Anderson. She is great! Superman and the "Ugly one with the Jewels" are two that stick out for me. But, yes! She's great and important.
I can't stop crying RIP Huxley
On the star wars ride: it is trackless. It uses RFID LPS flooring. They're not autonomous though and still receive direction from the ride control system. The only autonomous thing they can do is course correction. Also the wheels are not Omni wheels, they're basic driven caster wheels which you can identify by all the scuff marks.
I made a whole video going over it if you'd like to take a look.
Also the ride isn't 18 minute, but the preshows and wait between plus the ride (about 5 minutes) totals to about 18 minutes.
Adam sorry for your loss - check out an ex racing greyhound... never regretted adopting ours. Gentlest soul I’ve ever met.
Reminds me of when Chance passed. He was a gentle old soul as well and I miss him. I haven't gotten another dog since him.
Adam: Condolences on the loss of your dog, Huxley.
Sorry to hear about Huxley. The end of a pet's life is very difficult. It's hard to watch your best bud suffer at the end and making the call to do the humane thing is heartbreaking. We had to put our cat, Louis, down two Sundays ago. It was his time.
We have euthanized two cats, and in each case we sat together as a family, and one of our kids cradled the pet throughout, and it felt so right to have the kids at the center of the experience. There was so much about the process that they took with them as they grew up.
During the first season the set was in two that split along the hallway where the walk-and-talks where done. They actually had 2 versions of that hall. In season 2 they had one set.
Re Eisenhower library: that’s in Abilene, KS. I don’t know if they have an Oval Office. The Truman library in Independence, MO has one. I’ve seen it.
Sorry to hear, Adam -- you too, Will. A cat I had grown up with died when I was 21-- still not over it. Had a loaner dog/cat for a year and I am further committed to not having animals in the house-- they can't talk or care about finding a bathroom in a timely fashion. Remember winter you SF bums? The dog was happy in 2-foot snow drifts, he was a 100 lb Labrador Retriever.
I remember Laurie Anderson very well.
Sorry for your loss Adam 🙏🏻
Thanks adam.i needed this
God that’s so hard. People who see their animals as a genuine member of their family are they who we need in this world. Because it’s the way you handle tragedy and adversity that is truly revealing of ones character.
I think I always knew Adam was a damn good person. Lol even tho his kids are in college he still protects them by calling them thing 1 and 2. So much so that you KNOW their biography as growing up with Adam as their father will be called “thing 2”
thank you for sharing : )
I had to have my cat of many years put down almost ten years, similar situation to Huxley, but I've never been able to get past to thought that I killed my cat. Yes, it was the humane thing to do, but I still had to be the one to decide to do it.
Ok made me drop a tear.
8:35 Thats pretty much where I'm at. Its hopefully a very long way off with my rescue dog, but I have thought about how to make sure its best for both of us. I can't imagine anything worse than having regrets
It hurt to lose my cat Cantrell but I take solace in that she lived 23 years and most of my life
McKinley Monument and Museum in Canton, OH was awesome when I was kid. Museum with a life size era appropriate small town main Street inside. But the best part was that it was also a science museum with planetarium and a huge science section similar to COSI. It was was the 80's this was before COSI . I think it eventually became COSI all they would have had to do was change the signage and branding :)
At 7:40 right in the middle of Adam speaking about the passing of Huxley - ADS... from emotional family loss to ad rage & back to Huxley,
Sort your ads out, having them is needed for the channel, great, can youse at least insert them at appropriate "breaks" not mid-sentence of hosts during important info.
RIP Huxley, dogs are truly special friends, with loyalty beyond that of most people. Kia kaha Savage family.
RIP Huxley. I'm so sorry Adam
So sorry to hear of Huxley passing on, but I know that you gave her the best life possible for a furry family member and she loved you with all her big canine heart for it.
Must say that when you were all discussing it it had a grown man in tears. Made me think of my little Jack Russell , who really was the best friend I ever had who after I rescued him from a terrible start blossomed into a real star. Never a day ill 'till he got cancer and within a month I had to do the kind thing and have him euthanized. Don't think I'd ever been so upset, even with the passing of a parent which some thought odd. A friend of mine sent me a copy of The Rainbow Bridge for dogs at the time and though it made me cry more it was very cathartic. I hope you and your family get many years with Maggie your little terrier.
Thought it was lovely the way that yourself, Will & Norman discussed how much dogs impact your lives in such a wonderful way and that its a positive thing for all parties.
Great though sad podcast, thank you.
So sorry to hear about the passing of Huxley and Chloe. I know Chloe's passing may be older news for some, I'm just hearing about it now.
Maybe I'm just getting my hopes up, but could the project happening this whole year be a scale Mercury capsule? In one of the latest videos, it looks like Adam was working on a Mercury style helmet in the background, and he even has the whole control panel in his cave. Probably not what the series is, but if it is I just wanted to predict it.
I am so sorry for your dog. Mine died at 13.5 years old :( miss him so much.
I know about that contact you are talking about. He pulled me out of my bad childhood :(
Putting him to rest was the hardest thing to do :(
My other dog changed a lot after losing his big brother.
Adam, I am so sorry that Huxley pasted away... his story hurts my soul!
Look up the essay about what if we are like Elves to dogs...it puts a whole new spin on how dogs see us.....
I'm crying, Your crying... hell the onion cutting ninja's are crying! My condolences for your loss Adam, as a dog owner myself I too have suffered and both embraced this exact situation in the past, and will again in the near future. My current doggo (chihuahua) has developed diabetes and over the span of the last 3 months he has dropped in weight from nearly 18 pounds to just over 12.
I am sorry for your loss Adam
Too many ads guys. I love listening on you tube, but when there are three as breaks in 30 mins, it’s too much.
I will be bailing to pod cast soon.
Check out the final episode (ep 6) of The Imagineers on Disney + for a walkthrough of the technology in Rise of the Resistance.
And much love for dogs.
I find it slightly amazing that I have seen two movies that at least one member of this cast hasn't
( _Parasite_ and _Knives Out_ )
I kind of want to see Adam build a gundam model kit on one of the one day build episodes.🤔
Yes to Laurie Anderson. The Cultural Ambassador still echoes in my head.
Sorry to hear about Huxley.
this was a hard podcast to watch, im watching it at work and i have to stop every 2 minutes to stop myself from losing it.
The hardest thing I have ever had to do was have to put down my dog when I wasn't absolutely sure it was the right thing to do, when it was far, far too soon. The worst part is that the main reason I made the choice was because I couldn't afford the diagnostics...
Love your show it is better than the view.
Good episode guys. Sorry about your dog, Adam.
Laurie Anderson is such a boss!
Any way to rotate Norm’s mike so his face isn’t covered?
You guys should check out Tyler Perry architectural digest tour of his studios he had a full Whitehouse built on the lot.
😢🐶...hug your dogs man! 🙏✌🇬🇧
Dogs are the best people.
a little disappointed with 2 youtube commercials in the middle of Adams story.
who is cutting unions here in the house at 10 a clock in the evening
The other amazing Apple TV + show is Truth be told. It’s a plot twister
HUXLEY LIVES! boomer told me so :) #riphuxley
Thanks for sharing this. Animals are sentient feeling beings...please consider being vegan.
Can we get a small break from Will and get an episode with Simon Geirtz?
Giving this a thumbs up but I'm out.
I can't handle thinking about this right now...
Dogs help us be better humans.
spoilercast on Joker plz.
Adam, I would love to see you on Joe Rogans podcast one day. His 3 hours of just having conversations are great.
if you are going to have trouble saying goodby maybe you shouldn't have a pet, i have had several and sure it hurts to say goodby but they bring so much to life not having one is a huge whole in your life but you do have to say goodby.
Wow. My friends of color find Coulton's cover of BgB offensive. Some of them went to a Coulton show and he played that, and they really felt like black culture was being made fun of by the crowd, that was entirely white except for my friends.
