PowerA Dual Charging Station XBox Series X | Unboxing & Review

- Today I'll be sharing with you the unboxing and review of the PowerA Dual charging station for X Box Series X and X Box One controllers. One of my chief complaints about the XBox Series X was that the controllers shipped as battery-operated units without rechargeable batteries which meant needing to constantly replace batteries, oftentimes at the most inconvenient times. This kit from PowerA is the cheapest and most affordable solution that I have found.
How well does it work? Let's find out!

Turns out putting a battery pack into a controller one of two ways, might actually be comparable to rocket science
Four ways actually but it's marked positive and negative and you need the port facing out. So only one way actually works.
This charger makes me glad I purchased an extra controller for my series X, even tho I’m the only one who ever uses it. Very handy to always have one controller charged and ready to go.
Thanks so much it really helped 💯🙏
Thanks man. The letters on the bk of panel is where I wemt wrong. Helpful video. Thx
I was about to return mine until I came across your video. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much tomorrow I plan on getting one .. Since the very beginning of the last gen which was xbox one S ive been using batteries which great don't get me wrong but only to think of how much money I spent on just big bulk for batteries I really don't wanna know but this gives me the opportunity to go an buy another controller that way I atleast have two charging but thanks again for the detail explaining you did I'll be sure to subscribe!
Thanks for the support! That's exactly the same reason why I bought the charger as well. Couldn't imagine continuously buying batteries. In the longterm this was definitely a cheaper solution.
Great unboxing I really liked this video
Thanks
Just got series X kinda disappointed for controller because of battery. So i was looking for rechargeable batteries and found this station so i looked up and saw your unboxing. Thank you for the great info cheers
Thanks for the support! Hope they work out for you!
Brilliant video thank you so much
Thanks. Thanks for the support!
I finally got me one because I got tire of spending money on batteries and using usb cords, and boy I tell you I never been more happy this is a must buy💯💯💯
PowerA make the best 3rd party accessories! Really good quality stuff. Even their controllers are great.
I own three and I personally love it
Hey Chris!
So, I put it on charge and Solid Amber Light comes.. and it charges but after an hour or so the light starts blinking. I know I haven't moved the controllers and they were seated properly before, what could be the issue?
Great video I have the same charger
Hey I just got those .but one question can I charge and play at the same time??
I'm new to xbox and I was wondering should I get this or the new Xbox series x s play and charge kit. I've seen that both of these are the same price where I'm from and I didnt know if it would be better to get this since it comes with 2 rechargeable batteries and it can also be used as a controller stand, plus it charges it, over the play and charge kit which comes with one rechargeable battery and a usb type c cord. So I wasnt sure if I would need the usb type c cord as much, since I seen it doesnt come with it in the power a pack. Also do you think the size of this power a recharge kit would be small enough for travel, since I often bring my system to different places, I would think the play and charge kit would be better for travel but I wasnt sure if you would reccomend this over that.
I haven’t used the other kit, so I can’t objectively say, but from the sounds of it, you will definitely get more out of this PowerA station given that it comes with 2 batteries (assuming you have two controllers and two users). I haven’t needed to use a USB-C cable since the controller has never died on me while using it as long as I charge in between gameplay.
As for size, it’s is definitely portable. The station itself can sit in the palm of my hand.
Hope that helps
Can I use the USB C port on the controller to charge the battery while its in?
For some reason my batteries r showin the white led indicating that’s they r fully charged ,but when i hop on my xbox it shows that’s my batteries battery level are medium ,and it doesn’t last those 20 hours of continuous play.
Very good review! I think I will purchase this but when I get another controller for my X I'll just purchase black. That way the door back matches my controller color.
That was my thinking as well when I bought it
I have the all digital Xbox One S and this dock works perfectly for me! I bought mine last year, but I just didn't use it. I don't remember why either. I just wound up sitting it in my TV stand and when I plugged it in last night for the first time since then and charged it, 3 hours went by and it was still red, but I took it off because my sister wanted to play Call of Duty zombies with me and it was charged all the way. Usually, my crappy rechargable batteries are 3 quarters of the way charged, but this thing was fully charged even though the light wasn't white yet. Definitely going to keep using it and my sister can keep my rechargable batteries and the charger to them (hers broke anyway) lol
Aww what a good sister
HI, Thanks for the vid. Is it possible to charge the 2nd battery in the dock without it being housed in the second controller. That way if you only have one controller then you will always have a spare fully charged battery.
Maybe since you just need to have the contacts on the battery touching the dock charging contacts
So I assume that this doesn't work for the series S controllers because of the cover thingy?
Mine doesn’t go any colour or charge at all even if they have been on there for hours what should I do ?
Mine doesn't have a solid blink anymore, I've been trying for hours What should I do?
Are there replacement batteries one of mine doesn’t work anymore
Btw just subscribed!
Thanks. I appreciate the support!
Have you experience the light blinking our of nowhere while the controller is charging I just got mines and I put the controller to charge and sometimes out of nowhere it just starts blinking ? Should I return it and get a new one?
What color is it blinking? If it’s blinking orange it means you need to adjust it so it is sitting correctly and touching the charging strips. Sometimes when you place the controller and after a while it starts blinking orange, just push the controller around (jiggle) to make sure the contacts are touching completely
Mine didn’t come with the doors for the series x. Is there any way to buy the doors without getting another charging station?
Does it list the Series X doors on the packaging? I know they had an older version for just the XBox360 and then they have one that has both XBox360 and Series X. I would call their support and ask them to send them to you if it was missing from the box
So how do they hold up as far as the charging being inconsistent? Are they consistent now? Do they last a long time on a charge? I remember you said you were going to follow up with an answer but I just thought I’d ask to see how they hold up now. Thanks for the review
I haven’t experienced any issues with charging and the controllers have lasted at least 40hours without needing recharge. There is still an issue with lining up the controller with the charging plates, but the fix to that which I have found works well is to press the charger down to activate and then place the controller on the base. 99% of the time using that method works without running into any charging and alignment issues.
So does it overheat the controller if u leave it charging too long? Because I just got one and I wanna know if its safe to leave it on, or maybe even if I forget that its charging.
I leave my controller sitting on the base when Im not using it. Hasnt overheated my controllers.
Great video! I have the same stand but i seem to have a problem. I left mine charging overnight (went from orange to white) but when i turned my controller back on today, it still showed the controller at medium battery. Did you face similar issues?
Really. Haven’t run into that issue before. Was it a solid orange?
@@ChrisLoh Yeap and once it hits solid white, it shows as medium battery status.. but then i put it back on the charging station and it's back to solid orange
@@aliawada4834 hmm. that's weird. does it fully charge the 2nd time around or after a few minutes does it change back to white saying it's fully charged? If it does, you may need to reseat or potentially replace the battery. If it happens all the time, I would exchange it.
@@aliawada4834 I have the exact same issue snd have read others posting about this issue as well.
@@claytonclark5654 i ended up returning it and bought the charge and play kit from the Microsoft store and it's been so much better and great. No more of "unnamed" brands lol
Do you need the battery station to charge the battery cuz I got a control at a pawn shop with the battery pack can you just charge the battery pack with a micro USB and plug it in.
You should be able to charge the controller using a USB Cable
Thanks
Does it work for the Xbox one s?
Literally had it sitting on the charger for several hours and the light was blinking. Didn't know until I saw your reply in a comment that the light needs to be solid. Any idea on charge time?
Typically a couple hours to charge if it’s completely drained.
I have an issue where it’s got a blinking amber light
Same thing happen to me at min #5:54, it would not charge. I cant get my LED to turn on letting me know the controller Xbox X is charging.... What am I doing wrong?
I just wiggled it until it got a good seating. Now it works all the time.
If I bought a one for the last gen Xbox could it still work and do all I need is the recharge battery ?
There is another one specifically made for the older XBox
Just got it!
Nice. How does it work for you?
Is there a way you can charge it with a cord or anything. I lost my charging station
Yes. You can plug a USB-C cable to the controller and charge the batteries that way
Do they sell one that is for only one controller? I like it but I only have one controller and having an empty space would be kind of ugly in my opinion.
I don't think this manufacturer has one for a single controller, but there are some out there. I on occasion charge only one controller and think it looks fine
Update: as of now it works really good! The batteries last a long time...
Build quality isn't the greatest tho, for me it seems like something toy grade... other than that it's good.
I agree. It is made of a light plastic material that seems somewhat cheap, but aside from that, like what you mentioned, it works well. I’ve had it for a while now and it still works just as good as the day I unboxed it!
Hey can you confirm or not if you are able to play and charge as well with these batteries? Like for me I want the power station for when I'm not gaming at all but once I start a long session if I plug in a USB-C to the controller will it still charge the battery (Like the xbox play n charge kit) or is the battery only chargeable from the power station?
@@treflippa2 it's not play and charge, the batteries lasts for 40h for 1 single charge, however if you charge it every night there shouldn't be problems...
@@Nickoboss29 Yeah that's what I was just thinking. I guess I'll be ok without cable charge option. Makes for a cleaner appearance anyway haha Thanks for the quick response.
@@treflippa2 no prob. Mate!
Will it charge if I connect the USB cable to my controller with the battery in it? or will it charge only when it is placed on the charging dock?
No. The battery is made to charge with the dock itself. Xbox controllers aren’t made to charge batteries
@@ChrisLoh Thanks, but the Offcial Xbox play and charge kit batteries do charge them when connected to the cable.. So I thought this may charge as well.
@@naveen12 I may be wrong. I just looked and their are users and reviews on Amazon with users mentioning that they are able to charge and play at the same time using a USB-C Cable. I'm not certain if it's true, so I'll need test and confirm. Apparently they are also selling a new type of battery with newer versions of the base station, so I'm not sure if it is because of that as well. I'll confirm and get back to you. Here is a link to the new battery being shipped which allows for play & charge - amzn.to/3wxKYpy
@@ChrisLoh hello what do you think now is it true?
Can I keep them on the charger even after they are fully charged and the light turns white?
I leave mine on and haven’t noticed any issues with charging issues or capacity degradation. If your concerned about degrading the battery you can just press the charger and have have the platform raised so it isn’t engaged in the charging position.
@@ChrisLoh awesome thanks for the info Chris
Hey my controller won’t turn on now and I have the same thing when I put the battery in it won’t turn on can u help me plz
Are you using the PowerA battery or the battery that came with your controller. I will need more details to help
Mine blinks red all the time. It charges the battery but it used to be sold red tell the battery is charged then would turn green. I put the controller on now and it blinks red the whole time. Any idea why? Thanks.
Blinking red means it’s not seated correctly on mine
So could I charge my regular controllers like say the controller that comes with a series x in the box. Could you charge that?
If you install the batteries in the controller you can.
Thanks for the response. Video was buffering so I didn't see it atm lol. Do u think wired controllers would work with this too?
@@Jack-id4qm Not sure why you would need to use wired controllers.
yeah so I plugged my thing in the led wont come on when the battery pack and controller on the ports
Really. Defective unit?
Make sure is not on display mode, you need to push down the controller to start charging them ok
I just got one today lol the same on
Great! How is yours working for you? Any issues with charging?
I have a question I recently bought one and when I charge it the color is amber but it’s like blinking
That means the controller is not seated correctly. You need to adjust the controller a bit so the contacts are touching the charger base contacts
@@ChrisLoh ohhh ok thanks for letting me know I’ve been wondering why they die quickly
I'm having a problem where my controller just won't turn on I keep replacing my power a battery packs from controller to controller but none of the controllers turn on the white button just blinks when I hold it down and yes it's synced to my Xbox so I don't understand the prblem
Im not sure i understand., You shouldn't need to sync with your xbox it works independently from the XBox console. Is it blinking orange?
@@ChrisLoh no, the controllers just disconnect from time to time I fixed it, maybe the batteries are dying or dead or maybe I need to update my controllers
@@Contourr icic. You're using the batteries that came with this charging bundle right?
@@ChrisLoh yes sir
How long is the AC adapter? ^~^
Its a 10ft cable

@@mrodriguez4963 It comes with extra doors as backup and also for older model XBox consoles.
Bought it 3 days ago.Love it then only downgrade is batterry input,it hard to put battery inside controller then u have to cover it,it really time consuming when u r in middle of game,i love it
I think at first, but after everything is setup, it should be easy to manage and charge
@@ChrisLoh but Mine works most of the times but sometimes the red light doesn't appear
So I figured out what I needed to do I just needed to update my Xbox controller and now when i came back from school it was fully charged an it turn green today
Nice. Glad it works well for you
Is it able to charge the Elite Series 2 controller?
No. its made for the standard controllers
Would you rank this charger over the Xbox rechargeable battery?
I can't objectively and honestly say since I haven't actually used the XBox Rechargeable battery. I'll have to buy one and test it out and let you know :)
@@ChrisLoh what about now?
@@Nickoboss29 I still haven’t used the XBox rechargeable batteries.
@@ChrisLoh ok
Is there a way to get the blinking red to stop and to get it to where both controllers can charge at the same time
If it’s blinking red it means your controller isn’t seated correctly. You just need to remove the controller, reseat it, and wiggle it side to side to make sure it has a good contact to the base charger. You should be able to charge both controllers at the same time on this base charger
@@ChrisLoh thank you lots
@@korbenDD335 absolutely. Hope this helps
@@ChrisLoh what if it's blinking orange?
@@Dirrtysouth1 it means its not seated correctly
i recently brought one but every time i charge the battery gets super hot is this normal?
doesn't sound normal. AT least in my experience, mine didn't get hot. Is it too hot to hold comfortably? If so, maybe exchange it to be on the safe side.
220 voltios 110v...???
My charging station when I put my controller on it, it glows green but doesn’t charge the controller, and when I put both controllers it still glows green and doesn’t charge them
hmm. Im not sure what green indicates. is it flashing or solid?
Should I get this one the Power A or The Xyper X rechargeable battery?
I can’t objectively answer that since I haven’t used the Xyper X. I’m happy with the PowerA though
@@ChrisLoh yea that’s the one I’m getting the Power A I heard more good reviews about this one than Hyper X. Also how long does it last the battery before you have to charge them again?
@@cloudy1333 mine usually lasts about a week or more if I’m playing regularly. I typically place it back on the charger right after using it though. How long it lasts usually varies on usage. It’s rated to last 20 hours though with nonstop usage
Ty
Does anyone else have the problem where it doesn’t fully charge the batteries?
If the controller dies faster it’s because you have vibration on it kills battery faster
That is true. I just put it back in the charger when I’m done playing nowadays
Who bought this and is now here?
powera - dual charging station for xbox series x|s and xbox one - black well at 100% I turned it off Xbox lt 85%?
How long were you using it?
Posiadam tą ładowarkę oraz 2 pady, jeden od Xbox One X, drugi od najnowszego Xbox X. Klapki i akumulatorki, które są w komplecie pasują do obu. Akumulatorki wystarczają mi spokojnie do 30h grania (bez wibracji). Możliwość używania ładowarki jako podstawki do padów bez ładowania to świetna sprawa. Żadnych problemów nie mam z tym sprzętem.
Can I leave my controllers on the dock even if they’re charged with the white led strip showing?
I do that. I leave my controllers on sometimes after they have completed charging with the charging still engaged and the white LED strip on, however, I don't think you should. probably a good idea to disengage the charging when its done to maintain battery integrity. You can still set it on the base once disengaged and then just press it back down when you're ready to charge. I have though, left it in the engaged position with the white LED on for the past 2 months :/
What kind of Ac Adapter is it
Its your standard 100-240v input and 5.0v output ac adapter
Is this li-ion type batteries or ni-mh?
It uses Lithium-Ion batteries
I was hoping for a look at the adapter. Cord length etc
The cable is about 6ft long
@@ChrisLoh Thanks. And it's power not usb right? Seems good to keep usb ports on the Xbox open
@@bbarre4601 yep. It has a power plug
I keep getting a sim red light , but it won’t turn solid no matter how much jiggle it.
I had that issue initially as well, but eventually got it working. I had to take it off and seat it back and then adjust it side to side. If it doesn't work, might wanna consider exchanging.
So I purchased this product and charged the batteries. But I think I got a faulty pack :( The light turned white indicating that it was full charged but when I turned on the controller, it was still like 3/4 of battery life :(
When the light turns white, I pick up the controller and put it back on to charge again. the light shown is orange still! >~
@@mrodriguez4963 Hmm that is strange. Is it a solid orange?
Is this compatible with the Xbox one controller ?
Yes, battery is the same, battery compartment doors are different and these are in the pack 2x for Xbox One and Series S controllers.
I take it off the charger when it’s white but the battery percentage says medium is that something to worry about?
Maybe. Has it ever fully charged?

Why does the amber led start blinking after a minute?
Means the contact on the controller isn’t lined up with the contact on the charging station. I found that I had to lift the controller off and put it back on to align it
@@ChrisLoh That's so strange whatever I do It's still blinks I think maybe I have a defective one, I really appreciate your help though! Happy holidays!

You probably need to call their support for a replacement if they do in fact not work.
I've bought this Xbox Controller Charger Station with my Make A Wish Money earlier this year and the damn thing is ineffective or something, it just DOESN'T charge the controller, the light doesn't even turn on, I press it down and it's really making me mad.
