Also, Daniel Balavoine is another "French monster" of the 80's :) He did many humanist songs and... didn't die old (helicopter crash (sand storm) while searching a spot to dig a well for a village in Africa during the Dakar race in 1986)
Some songs I can recommend : L'Aziza, Sauver l'amour, Tous les cris les SOS, Dieu que c'est beau, SOS d'un terrien en détresse (I think he was the first to sing it), Frappe avec ta tête.
And, if you can get decent translations, Les oiseaux (part I & II)

Hey Dereck. I love your reactions to french music. As previously mentioned, check out :
    - Daniel Balavoine. He started in 1979 in the Starmania musical and sang « SOS d’un terrien en détresse » which was later sang by Peter Kingsberry from Cock Robin in the english version Tycoon, the song was renamed « Only the very best ». I’d recommend songs from his latest 3 albums (1982 « Vendeurs de larmes », 1983 « Loin des yeux de l’Occident » and 1985 « Sauver l’amour »). He was planning to move to London and form a band - he was a great fan of Peter Gabriel - but died before he could in an helicopter crash while on an humanitarian operation in Africa during the Paris-Dakar race. « Vivre ou survivre », « Viens danser », « Pour la femme veuve qui s’éveille », « Tous les cris les SOS », « Sauver l’amour » are all great songs
    - Michel Jonasz - a jazz singer who did a few great funky songs in the 80s, such as « Groove baby groove », « La fm qui s’est spécialisé funky », « Soul music airline »
    - Sinclair - funky songs such as « Si c’est bon comme ça », « Ca m’fait plus mal », « Supernova superstar »

You really should react to "Chacun fait ce qui lui plaît" by Chagrin d'amour. The first french "rap".

  • @jevousemmerdetouslesthunde2391

Hi Dereck! Thank you for your react on Bandolero with " Paris Latino" in October 1983. It was a SMASH HIT at the time in Summer 84 and a song danced a lot in niteclubs.
It ranked no.3 on the charts and written by Perez Brothers.
Unfortunately, there were no " follow ups", which is a shame! There is a B-SIDE :"El Bandido Caballero" and in the MAXI 45 RPM : "Tango Tango" and there are too : "Cocoloco" and "Conquistador" in 1984! Nonoe of the other songs will have the same successas " Paris Latino" !
Video Version is the " Extended Version" with a lot of English rap at the end by Doctor B. the "rapper".
    Original 7" ( SHORTER) : czcams.com/video/fVrEmSmGdm8/video.html .
The song is always and often broadcast on the radios and musical TV Channels in France, it's the "base" from 80's!
It's Disco-Funk and Pop Rap song with mexican/cuban vibes with spanish words and chorus lyrics : " Que Bueno! Que Rico! Que Lindo! Paris Latino", " Zorro", " cubalibre", " Don Diego De La Vega", Mexico, etc... and with too french, english, spanish words.
MADONNA knew the song when she came to Paris to promote HOLIDAYS.Seduced by this song will help the group to sign on the label Sire Records!!!!!!
It's a "spoken/sung" song like there were many in the early 80's : Chagrin D'Amour with " Chacun fait Ce Qui Lui Plait" in 1981, " Vacances, J'Oublie Tout" by Elegance in 1982 and many others!
Even Mylène Farmer did it with her first song " Maman A Tort" in 1984 a kind of nursery rhyme.
The lyrics evoke an evening where several characters meet in a good atmosphere who smoke, drink and dance.
An US VERSION exists too and remix by John " Jellybean" Benitez ( Holiday for Madonna), a little different in "Full English" and LONGER : czcams.com/video/LJCEHQBKteg/video.html and NO.11 thanks to Madonna of course!
    US VIDEO version : czcams.com/video/7xDmKZb_glY/video.html .
    English Version Mix Radio : czcams.com/video/uWNzhYPtNB8/video.html .
You haven't "approved" as usual, I wonder why! ☺

You should listen to Francis cabrel (my favorites are '' les murs de poussière and '' C'est écrit '' , but I also love '' encore et encore '', '' je t'aimais je t'aime et je t'aimerai '', '' la corrida '', '' l'encre de tes yeux '' and '' je l'aime à mourir '')
Claude François ('' si j'avais un marteau'', '' belles belles belles'', ''belinda'', '' magnolias for ever '', '' chanson populaire '', '' le lundi au soleil '' and last but not least '' toi et le soleil ''), Jean Jacques Goldman (this guy made too many songs!), Jacques brel (bit more dark ones but '' Amsterdam '' and '' ne me quitte pas '' are really something), Joe dassin ('' siffler sur la colline '' I really love this one! But you also have '' champs élysées '' everyone in France knows the refrain, '' l'Amérique '' and '' l'été indien'')
Dalida ('' mourir sur scène '', paroles paroles'' And '' il venait d'avoir 18 ans '')
I'm gonna stop here I think there's already a lot of songs for you to listen ^-^'

A great track👍🏼! Am in my element listening to your channel. Am literally stuck in the 80’s myself! Please listen to Spanish band MECANO and tells us your thoughts. “Mujer Contra Mujer” would be a good start. But they’ve had numerous exitos in the 80’s and 90’s. Am half French, half Spanish living in the UK!
