VOYAGE VOYAGE from Desireless was a major hit throughout Europe in the ‘80s....so good
Yes! In 1986 : dailymotion.com/video/x1muoe and JOHN in 1988 too : dailymotion.com/video/xym0r5 .
@@brunosco Exact ! Il l'a déjà passé !
I still have the vinyl single, love that song
That synth work right at the start and that plays around the chorus too, is MONEY
Also, Daniel Balavoine is another "French monster" of the 80's :) He did many humanist songs and... didn't die old (helicopter crash (sand storm) while searching a spot to dig a well for a village in Africa during the Dakar race in 1986)
Some songs I can recommend : L'Aziza, Sauver l'amour, Tous les cris les SOS, Dieu que c'est beau, SOS d'un terrien en détresse (I think he was the first to sing it), Frappe avec ta tête.
And, if you can get decent translations, Les oiseaux (part I & II)
Also "Le chanteur" (czcams.com/video/TnUbJTytF8A/video.html), "Mon fils ma bataille" (czcams.com/video/-JAZLORY-Ug/video.html),...
You have to listen to Matia Bazar- Ti sento and Desireless - Voyage voyage. Great songs from the 80s!
If you like latinos musics there is the band la Mano Negra:mala vida😉
french music group who sings in Spanish: Mano Negra - Mala Vida
Another group to a single success ... But what a huge hit !!! Still relevant today, it still makes the crowds dance, and its heady chorus "que bueno que rico que lindo" is known by everyone
Dereck, you'd love a French song with some type of slam by the band "Chagrin d'amour" (Heartbreak), song is " Chacun fait c'qui lui plait" (Everybody does what they want).
The woman is an American born who's been living in France for a long time now and the male has sadly passed away a few years ago...
Italo Disco, YES!!!!! Related to this is Space synth like Koto, Poxxon, Laserdance etc.
Well know Italo is Dolce Vita by Ryan Paris, Future Brain by Dan Harrow, Color my love by FunFun, I like Chopin by Gazebo, Love is like a game by Hot Cold and many more
Another notable french artist is GAINSBOURG, MGGGGG I love this man ! He got a really special atmosphere that you should be interested of
Thank you for your videos !!
Hey Dereck. I love your reactions to french music. As previously mentioned, check out :
- Daniel Balavoine. He started in 1979 in the Starmania musical and sang « SOS d’un terrien en détresse » which was later sang by Peter Kingsberry from Cock Robin in the english version Tycoon, the song was renamed « Only the very best ». I’d recommend songs from his latest 3 albums (1982 « Vendeurs de larmes », 1983 « Loin des yeux de l’Occident » and 1985 « Sauver l’amour »). He was planning to move to London and form a band - he was a great fan of Peter Gabriel - but died before he could in an helicopter crash while on an humanitarian operation in Africa during the Paris-Dakar race. « Vivre ou survivre », « Viens danser », « Pour la femme veuve qui s’éveille », « Tous les cris les SOS », « Sauver l’amour » are all great songs
- Michel Jonasz - a jazz singer who did a few great funky songs in the 80s, such as « Groove baby groove », « La fm qui s’est spécialisé funky », « Soul music airline »
- Sinclair - funky songs such as « Si c’est bon comme ça », « Ca m’fait plus mal », « Supernova superstar »
Thanks for your work! It so fun to see you appreciate french hits ^^
My recommendation for one 80's french hits with a saxophone solo :
"Alain Bashung - Gaby Oh Gaby"
He will nevers understand the lyrics 🤣
French-language rap is the oldest after English-language rap.
The real first French (and European) rap hit is this one -> (1981) Chagrin d'Amour "Chacun fait"
Good choice 👍🏻
J'ai écrit de vrais yahourts, notamment avec "You're the one that I want" (Grease) ! :)))
Another great French 80s song: Eve leve toi. I believe the singer is Julie Petri...
Julie Pietri, yes. Good voice, iconic song and... dangerous eyes that would make you dive downto Atlantis (ok, I'm getting a bit enthousiastic ^^) ;)
@@febed01 I don't understand everything but I think it has deep lyrics...
@@andimusicjunkie3990 a feminist song written by a woman for women as she said in interview!
I don't why, but it remember me "Comanchero" of Moon Ray
You seem to enjoy French music. I highly recommend the song Coeur croisé by Polo and Pan. One of the best choreo you will ever find in a music video, sexy-French-chic. You'll love it for sure
Talking about french hits i highly recomend "voyage voyage" by Desireless and "C'est la ouate" by Caroline Loeb
We use to listen to this during summer breaks at the fun fair. Such memories. It's one time wonder as far as I'm concerned.
Loved and love this tune!!!!
Thancks Dereck for all your french videos Im french and I love how you enjoy music particulary french song's
Pleaaaase react to Elli Medeiros = Toi toi mon toi 1986 🙏🙏🙏
Yes, especially the video-clip.
This is a great and often forgotten about hit from decades ago. I really love this song! The video is kinda weird. I’ve not seen it before. It was also part of the soundtrack in the movie, Call Me By Your Name. Thanks for the review!
✌🏻🙂✌🏻
Damn this is a great song. I don’t know how it escaped me all these years. Reminds me of the fantastic Don Quixote by Magazine 60
Same 80's : Ryan Paris " Dolce vita. Let's go to Paris, France ☺️ Thanks Dereck, so nice !
oh the 80's were really full of hidden treasures to explore. A task for a lifetime :-)
I was 8 when this came out and that hook would always pop into my mind from time to time through the years, for no particular reason. It's catchy for sure, this is my first time actually seeing the video. Please check out those 80's gems, I promise you will LOVE them:
Fade To Grey - Visage
Just An Illusion - Imagination
Desire - Roni Griffith
Yess "Voyage, voyage" by Desireless that's a hit for sure !
Dereck, u nasty boy!! This one def belongs to my top 5 of the french 80's acts. Sure it was a one hit wonder, but hey, what a massive track😄
"absolutely bananas" 😂😂 👍👍
was a huge success in the disco club in belgium!
This is AMAZING !!!
I had the music on a cassette in my walkman, then came Nina Hagen with "New York New York", and then FunFun-"Happy station", I loved it.
In this kind of french songs i prefer MAGAZINE 60 - Don Quichotte (1985)
Great song! I have the 12 inch single on vinyl. It has nice artwork.
Please Dereck, You will be react to Indochine : Canary Bay ! I’m sure you’ll love this famous french hit !
Pretty crazy arrangements & break
What a great song
Excellent review, thank you. I love also your reviews of Rita Mitsouko’s songs. « Voyage voyage » from Desireless is a must-have, I love that song. Perhaps also « Chic planète » from L’Affaire Louis Trio sometimes ?
Please comment "VOYAGE VOYAGE" by Desireless & "Les Démons de minuit" by Image, it's a must watch, huge success at the time, every single frog knows and dances on these songs!!! :)
And "Eve lève-toi" by Julie Pietri!
Oh yes, this reminds me of the summer of 2003. A friend of mine introduced me to the cover version of Star Academy. I didn't know the original when it was popular, but in 2003 I finally discovered it.
Rather in 2002 with STAR ACADEMY 2 ( Winner: Nolwenn Leroy): czcams.com/video/T2zXjLY8DOo/video.html
@@jevousemmerdetouslesthunde2391 Yes, but in my country it never was a hit, so I was one year late...
@@andimusicjunkie3990 In France, the 1st single to promote the TV REALITY SHOW and became no.1! And doing better than the original song! I believe Star Academy "effect".
Oh, here's another rec you will like - Macumba by Jean-Pierre Mader, another one-hit wonder, but it's become iconic in France. And I strongly recommend Axel Bauer (as many others have) - Cargo de Nuit, even the (racy) video is iconic
I know that bass is good!! Do you imagine dancing on that!
Mmmm I think they were 1 hit wonder....Don't know anything else from them (and I'm french from the period)
Oh yeah j’adore 👍🏼
God Bless Doctor B.
Don't forget him!
Hi, could you listen to CHAGRIN D'AMOUR "chacun fait ce qui lui plaît"... 80's and interesting! 😂 👏🏻👍🏻
They was I'm sorry a one hit wonder 🙋♂️,,,,, LOVE FROM SWEDEN 🇸🇪
Very cool
This song was pretty much forgotten until there was a cover from a singing competition called Star Academy. Their cover is better in terms of singing but the music is blend compared to the original
The lyrics were kind of cheezy, especially that proto-rap part (poor Dr. B's part was often slashed in the radio version, it's better in long-form TBF), but the groove was undeniable!
100% fun
Was this sampled for "Woodepeckers from space" ?
(another classic of course).
Merci pour le poster de Mylène 😍
J'adore ce tube ! I aDORE THAT hIT
Doctor beat is a song of the miami sound machine with gloria estefan.......that's the inspiration.......funky cubano 80's sound......it's like a french answer back for the miami sound machine.....😎😎
The title Dr beat from Miami sound machine was released in 1984. Paris latino from the band Bandolero was released precisely in October 1983. The French are mad in culture and creativity,
hi top notch vid. Amzing as always, if you want something typical french from the eighties it's zouk machine MALDON
Would love to see you react to the band Japan (Quiet Life), one of their best songs
Jill Caplan - Tout c'qui nous separe
Indochine "l'aventurier" please ... 😉

😍😍😍
In the same way, you have : « Chacun fait fait s’qui lui plaît » by Chagrin D’amour with a funk vibe :)
Please do Dolce Vita - Ryan Paris ;D
"Juste après" by jean Jacques Goldman ☺ an emotional song and an emotional video clip 🙏🏻
Good video, you have my like and muy subcription.
LAISSEZ MOI DANSER a huge disco hit from 1979 by the iconic DALIDA or MOURIR SUR SCENE another huge hit by Dalida in 1983 (great track with very deep lyrics )
How about another smasher from the 80's: Falco with Jeanny.
Amadeus et Der Kommissar 😊
You really should react to "Chacun fait ce qui lui plaît" by Chagrin d'amour. The first french "rap".
rose laurence africa ,..dereck
You must listen the group I AM sing Petit Frere , and the group NTM french 90 very nice music
Hello try " Riccione " the group is The gionalisti..italian song.. Thanks
Sadly, it was an one-hit wonder. 😟 but what a hit! 😊
Cargo de nuit...Axel BAUER
French touch "for ever " with american spirit
Sorry Dereck...."One hit wonder" :)
Hi Dereck! Thank you for your react on Bandolero with " Paris Latino" in October 1983. It was a SMASH HIT at the time in Summer 84 and a song danced a lot in niteclubs.
It ranked no.3 on the charts and written by Perez Brothers.
Unfortunately, there were no " follow ups", which is a shame! There is a B-SIDE :"El Bandido Caballero" and in the MAXI 45 RPM : "Tango Tango" and there are too : "Cocoloco" and "Conquistador" in 1984! Nonoe of the other songs will have the same successas " Paris Latino" !
Video Version is the " Extended Version" with a lot of English rap at the end by Doctor B. the "rapper".
Original 7" ( SHORTER) : czcams.com/video/fVrEmSmGdm8/video.html .
The song is always and often broadcast on the radios and musical TV Channels in France, it's the "base" from 80's!
It's Disco-Funk and Pop Rap song with mexican/cuban vibes with spanish words and chorus lyrics : " Que Bueno! Que Rico! Que Lindo! Paris Latino", " Zorro", " cubalibre", " Don Diego De La Vega", Mexico, etc... and with too french, english, spanish words.
MADONNA knew the song when she came to Paris to promote HOLIDAYS.Seduced by this song will help the group to sign on the label Sire Records!!!!!!
It's a "spoken/sung" song like there were many in the early 80's : Chagrin D'Amour with " Chacun fait Ce Qui Lui Plait" in 1981, " Vacances, J'Oublie Tout" by Elegance in 1982 and many others!
Even Mylène Farmer did it with her first song " Maman A Tort" in 1984 a kind of nursery rhyme.
The lyrics evoke an evening where several characters meet in a good atmosphere who smoke, drink and dance.
An US VERSION exists too and remix by John " Jellybean" Benitez ( Holiday for Madonna), a little different in "Full English" and LONGER : czcams.com/video/LJCEHQBKteg/video.html and NO.11 thanks to Madonna of course!
US VIDEO version : czcams.com/video/7xDmKZb_glY/video.html .
English Version Mix Radio : czcams.com/video/uWNzhYPtNB8/video.html .
You haven't "approved" as usual, I wonder why! ☺
I think they were timbales during the break
If you wanna have your head blown, I recommand you GUESCH PATTY and her one hit wonder : "ETIENNE" !
You should listen to Francis cabrel (my favorites are '' les murs de poussière and '' C'est écrit '' , but I also love '' encore et encore '', '' je t'aimais je t'aime et je t'aimerai '', '' la corrida '', '' l'encre de tes yeux '' and '' je l'aime à mourir '')
Claude François ('' si j'avais un marteau'', '' belles belles belles'', ''belinda'', '' magnolias for ever '', '' chanson populaire '', '' le lundi au soleil '' and last but not least '' toi et le soleil ''), Jean Jacques Goldman (this guy made too many songs!), Jacques brel (bit more dark ones but '' Amsterdam '' and '' ne me quitte pas '' are really something), Joe dassin ('' siffler sur la colline '' I really love this one! But you also have '' champs élysées '' everyone in France knows the refrain, '' l'Amérique '' and '' l'été indien'')
Dalida ('' mourir sur scène '', paroles paroles'' And '' il venait d'avoir 18 ans '')
I'm gonna stop here I think there's already a lot of songs for you to listen ^-^'
🤮🤮🤮
A great track👍🏼! Am in my element listening to your channel. Am literally stuck in the 80’s myself! Please listen to Spanish band MECANO and tells us your thoughts. “Mujer Contra Mujer” would be a good start. But they’ve had numerous exitos in the 80’s and 90’s. Am half French, half Spanish living in the UK!
🤦🏻♂️ Sigue Sigue Sputnik ( Love Missile) 👍🏻✨✨✨
the best rap in eighties is MCsolar, very good text and music
