    I burn bonfires all summer out in my yard, and there are forest fires all around the world every year. And I’m supposed to worry about emissions from my stove in my house during the winter. Makes a lot of sense.

    Read the research "Doctors against woodsmoke" and you will realize how dangerous woodsmoke is. I live in Namibia where people burn wood 24/7 to make charcoal. Some charcoal producers carry the FSC mark, saying its safe ect. Nothing about woodsmoke or charcoal is safe for the neighbours exposed to the resultant smoke 24/7 for 16 months to date. I got my dad's autopsy results and it cleary says " infiltration of the lungs". I saw hpw my dad's health deteriorated a month after the burning started and 9 months later he died. He was a healthy man, never smoked, yet he was killed by smoke.

    How about insurance? Heard that it can be hard to find or get good insurance if you have wood stove.

      Hmm thats a good question

      It varies from what I've seen. Some companies want nothing to do with insuring them. Many others will, but will require installation by a licensed contractor, must meet fire codes etc. Supposedly they're also less enthusiastic in general about covering wood stoves when it's the sole source of heat.
      It's like anything else. Talk with your company and agent, and if you cant' come to agreeable terms, look elsewhere.
      I think it must not be impossible to find insurance because a lot of these new stoves are not going in hunting shacks that people could afford to leave uninsured. These stoves systems are upwards of $10K and therefore going in some nice homes that the owners, and certainly the mortgage lenders do not want going without coverage.

    As soon as I saw wood burning illegal I knew California was going to be mentioned. My mom lives there and has burn restrictions all the time. The state would rather have you freeze then start a fire to survive.
    As far as the re burn of the closed systems is that the same type of thing like the solo stove styles are doing to help prevent smoke?

      @billeverett4090 Před rokem

      The solo stove basically takes super heated air and blows it into the smoke column, at which point the smoke lights and burns off. I know that some stoves have a damper that allows you to redirect the exhaust back through the firebox to further burn the smoke which would be pretty much the same thing. I’m not familiar with the catalectic converter Trevor mentions but I’m assuming it’s doing something beyond just diverting things.

      Reburn is to get a longer burn and more heat I dont think it helps as much as the combustor

    Do you have any experience with burning compressed-sawdust logs (Bio-Bricks, Enviblocks, etc.) instead of regular stick wood in modern EPA-compliant woodstoves? I used them in my old wood stove and they were terrific - lots of heat, no creosote, very little ash - but I've heard they burn too hot for some stoves. I am considering installing a new woodstove for supplemental heat but honestly, I don't feel like dealing with the work and mess involved with cordwood. Maybe you could do a video on the pros and cons of burning that type of fuel compared to regular firewood?

    • @embersliving

    I guess i never knew they or fireplaces themselves were illegal, will these heat as well old ones? What makes a wood burning stove illegal vs having a firepit in your backyard as far as environmental standpoint? Does an open fire produce less toxins than a closed one?

    • @Egleu1
      @Egleu1 Před rokem

      Open fire produces more pollutants but you're only burning it a few hours a year vs 24/7 for the heating stove.

    • @embersliving

      true

    • @kenofken9458
      @kenofken9458 Před rokem

      I think maybe they are illegal as new installations, surely not in general. There are millions of old style fireplaces and nobody seems to be forming tasks forces to bust people for using them.
