    The mantra at the end of the video is " Baba Nam Kevalam". Baba means "my most beloved One," Nam means "name of" or "to identify with," and Kevalam means "only." So the meaning of the mantra is "My most Beloved is the only One." You can find the full version of the recording here: • Video

    I have noticed in meditation that when my mind is thinking, my breath becomes more active. When I notice that I am thinking, I re-focus on the breath and both mind and respiration become calm again. It is easier to control the breath than it is to control the mind, so might as well start with the breath. Namaste :)

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps  Před 4 lety +16

      Yes, there is a very close connection between the breath and the state of the mind, therefore by controlling the breath we control the mind, and by controlling the mind we slow down the breath.

    Meditation is not about trying to control or maintain preferred states, rather to not be affected or controlled by any states or conditions, meditation is not a doing or action, it is a label that describes a natural state of being 🙏🏽

      Absolute truth brother, meditation is a label pointing to a natural state of being not an action or doing, formal meditation and other practices you spoke of are essentially like stabilisers on a bicycle, once you have learnt balance and harmony with what is, there is no need for stabilisers anymore, when you go beyond mind you experience the awareness that allows all phenomena to manifest, when the transition is made from thinker to observer and when one identifies and operates from this observer or awareness the rest takes care for itself,
      It would be lovely to talk to one day brother green dragon 🙏🏽

    • @zackariasmehta4561
      @zackariasmehta4561 Před 4 lety

      I understand everything brother, mooji’s ashram in Portugal is run like a cult and he sleeps with he’s female followers, but hey, I don’t follow or idealise or worship people today, if a teaching is conveyed, I receive and implement that message to my life and experiences and see where it fits,
      If I was poisoned by a snake and you had the antidote, I wouldn’t refuse it based on your moral standing, I’ve been on retreats with Thai Buddhist monks from the forest tradition and found them very anti-social and seem to be running or hiding from life, but each to their own, you see the very notion of a spiritual life is just another illusory created identity, there is no such thing as spiritual, freedom, enlightenment, peace or Samahdi, the mind creates these labels that need dualism, searching and seeking to survive, when you operate from the observer as opposed to the thinker, you see through the walls of illusion of these labels and identities and you remain in harmony with what is, hope you’re enjoying Cambodia brother 🙏🏽

    • @oodjee
      @oodjee Před 4 lety +1

      Daan Hakvoort there are 2 differences between mindfulness and meditation... First is the degree of intensity. Secondly, in your waking state you will always remain plugged into this physical and manifested world. The world of forms and symbols. The impermanent world. While meditating, you turn inward and return to the formless state, the eternal state. That's your gateway to your own higher mind (aka Buddha nature).

    Hello Dada, thanks for this video. Please let me ask most politely why do you think that meditation ist something that can be done?
    Isn't meditation taking place when there is absolutely no doing at all? Does one, when meditating for peace, health or any other reason really meditate? Or is it the following of a mere thought?
    Meditation requires silence. Not physically, but in the mind. Silence is the ground, that allowes everything to be. There is silence and there is silence created by thought like "I must not think" or the gap between thoughts. Real silence will drag the mind deeper. That can happen instantly when sitting down or after a couple breaths. In meditation there is no psychological time. Therefore a goal or reason to meditate will stop the meditation because it is a archiving. A "now its not but it will be soon". This can be a very pleasant feeling, but it's not meditating. Meditating is daily life without getting involved completely
    Please observe this and tell me what you saw!!

      You describe a popular misconception about meditation, which is based on an incomplete understanding of Patanjali's definition of Yoga: Yogashcitti vrtii nirodhah. That is, Yoga is the suspension of the propensities of the mind or silence of the mind. It is a good definition but not good enough for those who did not study the meditation process under the guidance of a strong guru. It can easily be misunderstood.
      Meditation in the Latin language means "to ponder, to think deeply" Similarly, Dhyana in Samskrta is based on many mental and physical processes preceding the stage of pure meditation, e.g. pratyahara, Dharana, that is, withdrawal of the mind from objects and concentration. When the concentration is achieved, then the mind starts flowing effortlessly drown by the cosmic attraction. But before that can happen, there will be a tremendous amount of effort to direct the mind in the proper flow. You can say, that an effort to grasp the inner purport of Mantra is meditation.
      Without effort, there is no meditation, we can call it relaxation, a passive state, but not meditation. In meditation will power, brain and entire strength of the mind remain vigorously active and therefore develop fast. Relaxation is good for stress management, but can never bring about any spiritual elevation.

      I suggest going to a free 10 day vipassana course to learn this properly, however whatever you experience...think see feel hear taste smell. practice simply observing it without reacting. Try to remain equanimous and realise that all sensation is ultimately impermanent. If you see that everything is impermanent and in constant change, arising and passing away, there is nothing to cling on to. If fear is there fear itself also passes. If you get lost in these sensations as soon as you realise it, bring your focus always back to your breath. This is like a keystone point to your life no matter what happens..breath is there. It allows you to focus the mind on something specific and not get caught up in everything else for a while and quieten down.
      This is a practice. It requires practice and you will be successful. Good luck, I hope it helps 🙏

If you're a sleepy person better to sit and not lie down though coz you'll just fall asleep if you lie down! You can also hang upside down if you want 😂

      It appears that you have problem to sit in the lotus position, and you continued doing it even when you had problems! Your will was strong but you skipped the initial step. You have to start with Asanas and exercises before you be able to sit straight for 20 mins.
      Most people dont need this step because they are healthy and flexible enough to sit for 20 mins. If they increase their practice to 2 hours, then they too would have to do Asanas and exercises so that their body becomes fit enough to sit for 2 hours continuously.

      Namaskar@@MrSridharMurthy , liberation of self and liberation of bondages. It's the natural goal of every human being. Hi brother, where all that anger is coming from?
      Yes, it is going to help to meditate, and it has been tested numerous times. Whether it is a creation of the mind or truly spiritual experience is judged by a developed viveka or conscience. But it is the way to proceed with spiritual understanding and experiences.

For you or others it could be a spiritual experience. I don't believe we have a spirit or spirits, so for me meditation is just attentional control. I respect other people's views that it's a spiritual experience, even though it's more than likely an imaginary view. Have you ever thought about this, does a bat have a spirit? A weed? A monkey? A table? The universe? Why do you have a spirit? How do you know you have one? I don't know what way this guy interprets meditation but he has a right to his view.

      Striving is the most natural thing, without striving there is no live. As long as we live we have to struggle and strive, and there is not more positive force on Earth than striving. At the final stage the struggle is over, but all stages before are saturated with struggle, and that is pure joy.

      @@MeditationSteps Hi, please excuse my poor username!
      Just wanted to say, it's very important to connect joy felt during meditation to everyday life.
      I have found it very useful to prepare before I go into deep meditation to learn to feel and understand contentment.
      You do many simple things every day that bring contentment when we pause to appreciate them. Every morsel of food, every moment you feel comfortable, warm and secure, every moment in good company.
      When you feel that warm contentment in every breath during meditation you will remember to feel it during your day.
      Pretty quickly you learn that you love and cherish every moment because they make you grow and mature.
      The most important and challenging thing to apply it to is relationships. This is where we learn the most about ourselves.
      When we are hurt or upset, remember to see the funny side, that your constructed immature ego always seeks external validation.
      If you can learn to enjoy doing things with people that spread positivity and love, then you know you have started to apply your flow in the correct direction.
      Love and Peace, 🙏
