- 2019 -2021 Toyota Rav4 Cabin Air Filter Replacement / Change
This video will show you how to change the cabin air filter on a Toyota Rav4 2019, 2020, 2021. This video was filmed on the new 2019 Toyota Rav4 LE AWD with a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. The process will be very similar or the same in future years of the Rav4. The cabin air filter is very easy to change and it will save you money over taking you Rav4 to the Toyota dealership.

It looks like their is two coolant resiovors next too each other do I fill both of them up or are they diffrent?
Good job. As a side note many if not most aftermarket filters do not say "UP" on them but they say "airflow" instead. The airflow is downward so the arrow on those filters should point down instead.
Thank you so much for your comment, I was trying to figure which direction to put my
aftermarket filter
This was very necessary point out. 🍺
Yeah, I didn't realize that at first, and installed the filter upside down. Luckily, I figured it out when I went to toss the old filter, and reinstalled the new one correctly.
Aaaaaannnnnndddd going outside to fix it
Very important! Thank you
2021 RAV Hybrid XLE Premium. Same as others said. Dealership wanted $45. I bought Microgard 4113 filter for $21 at O'reilly's and did it myself. One difference: the support bar clip on mine is hard plastic, so I had to use pliers to gently pinch the center of the clip together.
Exactly! I just went to the same store and found this video to do it myself! I refused to pay Pep Boys $42 for the filter and the labor! Let alone pay Toyota $80 for the same thing!

Owner of a 2020 rav4 limited AWD. I can confirm that this works also on this and also get a rewash-able one.
Awesome 👍 Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much you saved me 50$. I smelled something awful in my car and knew it was the filter and I M grateful ❤
Glad I could help
Thank you!! Didnt realize it was so easy. I brought my Rav 4 to the dealership and I decided to decline this service because in my previous vehicle, I knew it was fairly easy to change
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help.
Thankyou I just came from the dealership they were doing my free Toyota service. When I got home I checked for my registration which is usually in my glove box I couldn’t find it,I called them they said they put everything back.I was frustrated I looked everywhere. I decided to check on youtube if I can open the glove box and your video popped up.Guess what they had locked it inside 😤.Thank you so much I can rest easy now.
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help.
Great video! The filter installed super easy with one exception....I purchased a STP brand CAF1816P filter at AutoZone and although the dimensions were the same the orientation of the pleats in the filter were off by 90 degrees. The bracket that the filter fits down into has a flange that fits in between the pleats so that filter wouldn't fit. According to the filter book that was one of the filters that should fit in all RAV4s 2019-2020. I had to go back and return it and swap it for a K&N VF2054 which is about $20 more but is washable and reusable and carries a 10year warranty. It will undoubtedly save me money in the long run. The book also listed the K&N VF2000 as working for this vehicle but it's pleats were also running the wrong direction. AutoZone was very nice about the mix-up and even gave me 10% off on the right filter. Kuddos to them but be forewarned. We have a Toyota RAV4 XSE AWD hybrid. Loved the video keep up the great work!
Thanks 👍
Awesome! Looks super easy! I’m replacing mine with a K&N air filter that can be cleaned and reused over and over again. Saves a lot of money! Thanks for the video!
You're welcome, 👍
Yes! I had one of those in my Chevy Cobalt. Definitely saves money
Thank you for showing this. I changed my cabin filter with no problem. I, unfortunately, paid $35 for my cabin filter. I wish that I would have seen your link first. Now I know for next time.
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help.
This video helped me a tons. I thought I was going to have to use tools to get to the filter like on other cars, I made it about half way in the video before I attempted and replaced my filter. Toyota wanted to charge me almost $100 to replace the filter. $40 and a youtube video later, I saved $60 on my 2020 RAV4 Limited Hybrid.
Glad I could help!
Easy peasy.... took me less than 2 minutes to change. Thanks for the video! You saved me 💰
Glad it helped!
Saw this after the air filter video and still the Goat, Thanks again.
Glad I could help 😀👍
I have a 2019 . Will do this. Have a Grandson who is great at this stuff. Tanks.
You're welcome 🤗
Thank you for DIY video. It was so easy to change and saved me a lot from the dealership. I appreciate you putting the link in for the exact filter needed. Subscribed
Glad it helped
Did you mean stealership?
Thanks I have 2020rav4 LE. Exactly the same way. Thanks. You saved my $28 labor cost
Perfect 👍 Glad I could help.
Great video. My 2021 RAV 4 glove box jammed open. I followed your instructions and found the culprit in a couple of minutes, literally. The cabin air filter cap fell off and was jamming the compartment. I think it was probably loose originally. I put it back on as you instructed. Seems to fit tight. Put the glove box cover back. Voila! Works like new. Thanks. I subscribed.
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help.
This is EXACTLY what I needed! I have a 2020 RAV4 TRD OFF-ROAD! Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Super easy to follow! If I can do it, anyone can do it! I did need a flashlight (gloomy cloudy day) and a pair of pliers to pinch the bracket on the side (also a really cold day) but it saved me over $40 by doing it myself!
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help.
2021 RAV4 Hybrid owner here. The local dealership wanted $100 to change the engine and cabin air filters.
I did myself for less than $40 using FRAM filters.
🤣🤣🤣
Awesome 👍
Thank you! Way easier than I thought when the dealership told me what they wanted to change it $$$. I have a 2021 RAV4 XLE Hybrid, same set up.
Side note: When I put it back together the glove compartment wouldn’t shut on the right side. I had to undo the three previous steps and click the very bottom back into place. All together still only took three minutes. Great video!
Awesome 👍 Thanks for the tip.
It is actually this easy. Worked perfectly and was able to execute as easily as shown. Can’t say thanks enough.
Perfect 👌 Glad I could help you out.
I just replaced the filter on my 2021 Rav4 and it was just like your video. Thanks.
Glad it helped
Thanks for the thorough explanation. It was easy to do once you showed me how to do it.
Glad it helped!
Very much appreciate the detailed views and the explanation's make this even easier . The first how to that showed the detail points. Great job!
Perfect 👌 Glad I could help.
Thank you! 2021 RAV4 and saved me $50!!! The only change was the filter I got had the airflow arrow which apparently means it's the opposite and should point down.
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help.
That a big help now I know how to change it myself instead of the dealership
Perfect! Glad I could help.
Did it. First cabin filter change in my 2020 Rav 4 but I will be doing them more often. I always did them on my CRV. Thanks
You're very welcome 👍 Glad I could help.
Thanks for producing the good series about the 2019 Rav4. Nicely done!
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help and Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much! Just changed my filter. I appreciate your video.
You're welcome!
Thanks so much! Would have never figured out to squeeze the side walls to release the tray :)
You're very welcome 👍
Awesome video showing us step by step how to change the cabin air filter. Thank you 👍👍
You're welcome 👍
THANK YOU FOR THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CHANGE THE CABIN FILTER.
Glad to help 👍
2021 rav 4, was exactly the same process. Super easy, thanks
Perfect! Glad I could help and thanks for sharing that It was the same on the 2021.
Perfect, I have a 2021 Rav4 XLE Hybrid and the process was exactly the same. Thanks
You're welcome 🤗
Thanks for the help, in my 2020 Rav4 I didn't have to bring in the sides. Your video was very helpful.
You're welcome 👍 Glad I could help.
Thanks a lot! You saved me some money.
Glad I could help!
Thanks - made it a very quick process. Appreciate the data on how dirty the filter was after x amount of miles.
Perfect 👌 Thanks for watching.
@@NorthernVikingEveryday I I just did the change out after 34000 KMS. Uh - super dirty and did quality for the description "restricted" by the service techs at Toyota. Your milage may vary!
My dealership wanted to charge me $80 for this 😤, I laughed at him 😂. Great video, thank you!
Glad I could help 👍
Process worked for my 2020 RAV4. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great to hear!
GREAT vídeo!! I just did it. Took me less than 15 min. THANK YOU!
Perfect 👌 Glad I could help.
Thanks, this was what I needed. (2019 Rav4 XSE).
Perfect 👌
Like putting a VHS into a VCR! Lol awesome.
Love the analogy 👍
Works as described in a 2021 RAV4, thanks!
Great to hear!
Dealerships pray on the uninformed. Great video.
Yes! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this, you saved me like $50!
Perfect 👍 Glad I could help.
RAV4 2021 similar filter was different. Process was the same. Thanks.
Thank you, excellent instruction. 2018, same as your 2022 instruction
Perfect 👍 Glad I could help.
Rav 4 Hybrid 2021. Just did it. Thank you.
You're welcome 🤗
Great job fitting same for 2021 also
Perfect!
Thank you for making this video simple and to the point! Much appreciated!
You're welcome 👍
I own a 2021 Rav4 XLE hybrid it is the same instructions to change cabin filter. Thank you
Perfect 👌 Thanks for the tip.
Thanks! They were trying to charge me $210 at the dealership for something so simple to change yourself. What a joke
You're Welcome 👍
My cabin filter was 23.99 lol
Wow - this looks exactly like my current Forester filter replacement, except that the “housing” gets replaced, too. It will make an easy transition to my new Prime that was supposed to start on it’s way to the US today!
Perfect 👌
Thanks! 😊 I just replaced it
Great!
Thank you! I'll be changing mine tomorrow.
You're welcome 🤗
I love Toyota but my local dealership just serviced my RAv4 and charge $66.99 to do this, $30 being labor charge. I think going forward this may be a better alternative and I'll be checking on one of the K&N reusable filters as well. Thanks for the info.
You're welcome 🤗
Thanks for your video it was very precise and explained perfectly. I am looking forward to saving money on future cabin filter replacements. You deserve at least 100K subs.
You're very kind 👍 Glad I could help.
Thank
You make it look easy,
Great job
You are welcome!
Quality video (air filter one too). New sub, because I like the quality of your content...ps that Rav looks good in that color 😎
Thank You!👌
Thanks a lot for the videos. I watched this one and the air filter under the engine replacement. Good information. Helps a lot. Love my 2019 LE FWD. best car ever!
Glad to help!
supper informative. thanks
You're very welcome 🤗
Thanks for this straightforward guide 🙏
You're very welcome 👍
Australia MAY 2023 Right hand drive, 2020 Rav4 hybrid , YES identical process however the filter clicks in reverse (teeth on right saves you a few minutes trial and error). Part was Ryco RCA333M($84 @ supercheap) Ouch imagine what Toyota charge. I know nothing about cars, so anyone can do this.
Extra - Before replacing filter I also used CRC Auto Pro Cleaner ($29 spray can with 30cm tube) to clean out vents from inside. With Engine off, Air con off - spray in every air 'plenum' ie air intake near front windscreen (starting 30 cm deep and slowly drawing tube towards yourself until foam comes out) and each air con exit. Wait 30 mins after spray for foam to dissipate , then turn on aircon full heat 10 minutes . I parked car front wheels 15cm lower than read (ie on my driveway path crossover) to allow drainage on road of (?condenser) air con water outlet under front passenger seat.
Lesson 1 - Consider buying a cheaper cabin filter from amazon, 2-3 weeks delivery - its a different part so check thoroughly I saw them $USD12. Buy one and if you confirm the part is what you need, stock up a few.
Lesson 2 - I did this after 37,000km 2.8 years, (way too long) so will do more often 6-12 months. I doubt Toyota did this on regular services (maybe they did dont know)
Lesson 3 - for daily driving, maybe turn aircon off and just circulate ventilation ?10 mins before you arrive destination ( ie before you switch off engine). Possibly this allows better evaporates the internals better (bacteria etc wont thrive)
Lesson 4 see if you can buy this spray overseas ie if cheaper than $30 with delivery
Extra - I've seen other YT use a similar (2xcan of foam plus a syringe )- up the external (?condenser) air con water outlet, ensuring tube is as deep as it will go. Wait 5 minutes then turn or aircon to flush - I may do that if needed.
Awesome! Glad it worked out for you. And thanks for sharing the tips to help others out 👍
On my car (2021 rav 4) pinching the little clip in step 2 is completely impossible without some sort of tool - I used plyers and even then it was dicey - kept slipping. No way on earth was that pinchable by human fingers alone!
Homer's Hindsight - while all this stuff is nice and lit up for the video, it's gonna be pitch dark in there without a flashlight - even outside in full sun. Couldn't see shit - maybe my eyes are just going bad.
One other thing that I don't think is obvious - when putting the housing back in, you have to push it harder than you'd think to get it to "click" into place in the back. If you don't do this the housing sticks out too far and it's impossible to get the cover back on - it took my stupid ass 5 minutes to figure this out. WHY ISN'T THE COVER GOING ON oh.
Easy peasy! Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Thank you! Was SO easy and exactly same with my Rav4 2020 :)
Great to hear!
Thanks. you made it easy peasy...
You're very welcome 🤗
Glad they kept the the same way, thanx for the video
No Problem 👍
Worked on 2021 adventure
Perfect 👍
Thank you so much for this helpful video!! Super easy!!
You're very welcome 👍
Thanks! It is very simple per your instructions
You're very welcome 👍
Great video. Helped me!!!
Glad to hear it!
Thank you for this video ! You did a great and thorough job of explaining everything. Thanks again!
You're very welcome 👍
I have to push with a HUGE amount of force on the two upper clips to make the glove box lower down...what's up with that? And I'm not a weakling by any stretch
Quick and easy. Thanks
You're very welcome 👍
I got the FRAM CF12157 at Canadian tire as that's the one that's supposed to fit, spoiler; it does not. There's a plastic separator in the plastic bracket, and it won't fit in the FRAM filter.
Checked on FRAMs website, and the model is correct.
I can get the oem filter direct from Toyota for 5$ more so I just ordered that.
At service right now and they just charged a guy 30 dollars to replace his cabin air filter. Now I can do it myself with all the wild fires smoking up the air here in Wa state.
Awesome 👍
Thank you so much! Applicable to RAV4 XLE 2020
You're welcome!
Lo logré,, gracias 🙏🏻
You're welcome 🤗
So easy! Thanks.
You're welcome!
Only difference in my 2021 Rav4 is there isn't a housing for the filter. Also, you should specify to do this with an empty glove box so everything doesn't fall out when you release the support bar
Thx for this. Think it was a 90 second job that I’m sure would have cost me $100 at the dealer.
Glad I could help 😃👍
Great video! The FRAM CF12157 did not appear to work in the 2021 RAV4 XLE. The sides of the filter catch on the edges of the brackets interior divider causing it to not sit flush. The FRAM is different than others bc it has foam strips on the sides that make the interior dimension smaller. Didn’t matter on installing it with airflow up or down.
Now that is strange since I just changed mine today, and this is the exact one that I put into my 2021 Rav4 LE AWD. I didnt really have any issues either, other than I was unsure which way was meant to face up. Maybe its the model of Rav4 you have??? 🤷♀️
Thanks a million $$$.
You're very welcome 🤗
very helpful video thank you and keep adding more please ..
You're welcome 👍
Thank you.
You're welcome 🤗
Thanks for the video, great savings.
Awesome 👍 Glad I could help.
Super cool....thanks. Now, please fix the transmission!!
Glad I could help!
Bobby Woods it’s not as common as you think. And some of the “issues” are just the nature of 8 speeds, especially Toyota’s / Aisin transmissions. I know some of those people who actually have the clunky or jerkiness in their RAV4’s or Camrys, and have gone 80,000+ miles and hasn’t effected anything. It’s like when it was starting to become in that car started having 6 speeds, I remember EVERYONE freaked out about how they acted. Cars jolt sometimes especially since everything has a sensitive throttle. My 2019 RAV4 LE FWD has nearly 4,000 miles on it and zero issues *knock on wood*. Great cars, great deals, spoiled with features even for the bare ass one I have now. Do NOT pass up a new RAV4. Best car I’ve ever owned out of 6 cars.
@@mike_wellington_ I've had a 19 RAV since March. That coast and lurch was severe. The update seems to have worked and made it a little more smooth overall as well. If your RAV doesn't do it, I am happy for you.
Mike Wellington The 8 speed stays locked for better mpg so it drives like a manual. The driver is the issue in this case.
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
Thank you bro!!
No problem 👍
Thanks!
You're welcome 😃👍
Thanks! Super useful.

Please show me how to change the automatic transmission transmission oil in Toyota RAV 4 2019-2022 and check the transmission fluid level ...
