      Thats what being honest means, he's not a fan boy he will talk smack and call thigs as he sees them, even if it is his favorite company, like wise he will still praise someone like apple for innovation even if he disagrees about price and right to repair polices they have. Like wise he doesn't need to like Facebook to jump on an opportunity to use their money to educate people about the technology they're using and the technology you need to use it to its fullest. Just becuase you dont like something doesn't mean you shouldn't learn about it, the faster the bottom line moves the sooner we all upgrade. Its mutually beneficial to everyone

      @referral madness Probably because you need to compress the video stream in realtime. The wireless connection is to slow to push the video stream raw.

      @referral madness The CPU needs to handle 4K Resolution, VR Tracking, and also decompressing the wireless signal. That decompression adds 20% usage to Vive Wireless and 10% usage to Quest2 wireless, that’s enough to choke out a mid range CPU (Like my old 2nd Gen Ryzen)

So don't expect an actual review, even though the headset itself is amazing, the stuff that surrounds it is sketchy at best(like having your damn Facebook account banned for no reason, even if it's real)...

      Good thing I use a CV1. It says in the app that I'm losing social options (which I never used) and they'll need to link my account by the end of 2023. Well, I'll either create one and just post nothing, make the profile totally private or, more likely scenario - I'll just get another headset, but not from Oculus. It's a shame that I won't be playing Robo Recall then...

      Actually, that'd be... interesting.
      Imagine if Oculus added some kind of API so you could offload SOME rendering to the Quest itself. I mean, it has the power for smaller tasks... and to overlay on thing on another wouldn't be too hard...
      I mean, the guardian system already does this, but still...
      Main topic though: It depends. NeosVR, for example, REALLY shines on many cores (AMD levels) while others benefit single-core performance (Intel).

Facebook doesn't make a mistake or two, they are doing this monthly and every controversy comes with more information about how they will not change and how this is core to their business model. They didn't review a lot of VR hardware and software so they don't need to, don't be weird. And I am a human being, not a publicly traded multi billion dollar company with a record of human rights abuses, racism, and mass data extraction.

    TLDR: Get a CPU from within the last 5 years. CPU is waaaay less important than GPU, but it needs to be relatively recent.
    Edit: If it can run Minecraft, it can run VR. Seriously. It’s not any more hard on the CPU than any other normal game, in most cases. Obviously some VR games do lots of physics, so newer is better, but it’s a very low bar to beat.

      if you use a fake or dummy account, they can ban your device, you lose all your games.

      A: You need a modern CPU with 8 or more cores, with preferably 10 or more if you're streaming as well.

    i dont mind the Quest 2 ... its fun since they have a lot of self contained titles no PC needed. But i need more pc power for SKyrim VR or War Thunder on higher graphics and mods imo. LMK what you guys think. I have a laptop Helios 500 which has a 2700 CPU and a Vega 56. I think I need to go Desktop to take advantage of VR Properly.

    These specs are quite a bit higher than I'd say you need, a good 4 core, or ideally modern 6 core processor should be fine, with an 8+ cores being ideal for streaming
    Anything above a gtx 970/1060/1650's performance will do fine for VR as well, unless you're using something like the Index where you might want it to be a bit beefier to take full advantage of its higher refresh

    I got an Oculus Quest 2 yesterday and it will be delivered next week which I will use for PCVR via Virtual Desktop, which is why today I'm getting a 5GHz router installed in my room, I'm so excited, I had a Rift S but I returned it because I needed the money for something else at the time, anyway, I played smooth 90-100+ fps never dipped below 80 with my i7-8700 and overclocked 1070Ti, in games such as: Half-Life: Alyx, Boneworks, Blade And Sorcery, VRChat, etc.

      16 gb ddr4 2133(lol)
      Gtx 1070
      I7 6700
      2x500gb mechanical poop
      1x 256 ssd which I use to install my vr games on for quicker loading tines.
      This beats the minimum and reccomended specs . I think the minimum was a i5 4570 . Which isn't a bad cpu but I think would struggle today

    4 core i5 but 23.8 gbs of ram. I can run vr relatively realistically on modest settings in most games but Half Life Alyx is essentially a benchmark on anything higher than low fidelity

    My current rig has four cores in the CPU my new rig will have 12 cores in the CPU. I am also currently running a 1650 GTX and my new graphics card will be a 3060. So hopefully I will see some difference, dang! Yeah that's stuttering stuff really sucks

    The original rift will be my last headset from Oculus since they are making Facebook mandatory.Bummer since the controller was pretty nice. I'm also not a fan of the inside out tracking.

      the inside out tracking is pretty amazing... The controllers got a bit worse from the OG rift's, but overall the quests 1-2 are amazing headsets.... If you don't mind the Facebook requirement that is.....

    Linus! I would absolutely love to see more VR related content from you guys!
    I have a hard time optimizing my VR setup. And I have noticed the framedrops too.
    Something like VRchat can run smoothly but only with 3-4 people in a single world.
    To the point I only ever base my rig off on how well it would handle VR.
    I would love to see the results of the new ryzen 3 CPU's testing in VRchat.
    Maybe together with the new 6800 XT?
    That's what I am going for!

    I have a an older gen CPU and have no problems running VR you don't need huge upgrades to run VR.
    if you're buying your first pc for VR a GTX 1660 and a current-gen i5 system is plenty to give you a great VR experience IMO

    Vive pro with no stutters hiccups or frame drops.

      yea its fine, but that's the CPU I was using before upgrading to a 3950x and I noticed a pretty big uptick in performance. (it's a bit overkill I know)

      That's just straight up stupid.... Money is money, and there was no reason not to take it, as it didn't change the subject of the video whatsoever, since it doesn't concern the Quest 2- it's literally talking about topics important for the Index/PCVR, and the quest is primarily a wireless stand-alone device, oh and yeah that dead Rift S thing that's already in the trash bin at Oculus...

    Your recommendation at the end is overkill.
    4 cores is scraping the barrel for just vr, and unsuitable for vr streaming, while 6 cores is good for just vr, while scraping the barrel for vr streaming
    And 8 cores is good enough for everything.

    If you don't care about Oculus anymore, for obvious reasons, there is a new PCVR headset coming out around May 2021. The DecaGear One has incredible specs and will supposedly cost only $450.

    windows mixed reality requires AVX2.0 so a lot of older Zeon Cpus that would normally work for VR won't work with WMR. I found this out years ago when I tried to build a cheap VR system.

    I've an idea.
    Get a motherboard (2 CPU's and 2 GPU's) specifically invented for VR headsets.
    Rig so that 1 cpu and 1 gpu per monitor in the VR headset (1 monitor per eye)
    Tie the player down to the chair so they can't remove it.
    Get differing cpu's and differing gpu's.
    Enjoy differing performance and different framerates and enjoy the crazy guy shaking in the chair.

    Some apps will be more demanding on your CPU, some on your GPU. Most of the time it will be the GPU, but it's good to have a good CPU and GPU
