Kate...I'm impressed...I spent 47 yrs hauling freight over the road and you appear to be a natural...you go girl...your pa's a good instructor and very patient 👍
Good ol Dad. Teaching you the right way. When you have the window open all the time, bees bouncing off your mirror will be knocked inside where you are and can go down your collar, neck area and everywhere else. I used to drive by a place just before Pasco and there were always bees getting knocked into the cab.
You are adorable. I have trained a lot of truck drivers. Backing a trailer seems to be the most difficult task. When you have a trailer, simply lift up on the BOTTOM of the steering wheel. If you lift up on the left side, the back of your trailer will go left. If you lift up on the bottom of the right side of the steering wheel, the back of the trailer will go right. It works every time. When you lift up on the steering wheel, back up a couple of feet, get out and look, you will see what the front tires did, followed by the (drive tires/fifth wheel and front of trailer) and what happened to the back of the trailer, then it will make sense.
Hi Kate, you and all the young lady farmers posting videos about your family's and farming operations are a credit to your parents and agriculture. This country needs more young people like you. Keeps up the great work.
@@KatesAg It’s just refreshing to see such good natured people and your passion for agriculture and your eagerness to learn and do everything. Like I said keep it going and you will do great things!
That's how I got to drive through Montana so often, I drove a line-haul truck in a Freightliner all across the U.S. and Canada. My suggestion or input is this: One of the most important things you need to remember (because everything else becomes natural and instinctive), is always watch your off-track when turning. You don't want to run over someone standing on the sidewalk with your rear wheels. So to me, watching your off-track is the most important to learn and make a habit of. (The truck you were driving is a 20 ton, not a 10 ton. You can tell this by the third axle. A true tandem only has two rear axles.)
Kate I have trained many people to drive trucks to get their CDL and one guy never drove a manual transmission before. You did a 100 times better than he did so great job Kate.
Your the prettiest truck driver I've ever seen. You can really Learn a lot t from your father his wisdom is like an open book. Soak it up he's the best and he loves you I can tell. God bless y'all. I love watching your videos thank you
Kate what a super video,I was super excited to see u drive, ur Dad is super and he even seemed super excited this day, Darcy is super always, you did super rolling the tarp and even got dad to help for the super low price of 1 cent, ur dad's drone footage was super, and your commentary was super exciting and we just think ur just a super nice young lady with super manners and a super group of people surrounding you.. stay Super!
If you were to do this on high school, you would not be as far as you are now, what the difference is, is that you have real world experience, than just book learning, great job Kate.
I don't know when Kate is the cutest. When she similes, when she was driving the truck or when she was grimacing, after she ran over something or when she pulled on the knob. LOL. She is so funny. Just a joy to watch.
Great video, I'm hoping other young people see how farming is and what it takes to grow food! If young people had the energy and inspiration that you have it would be great!
you have entirely too much fun, young lady. it's fun watching the world through you and your family's eyes. driving is not as easy as we make it look, is it? good on you for rising to the challenge. the first driver instructor I had was gruff and very direct (just like your dad), but only because they wanna make sure we do well.
So funny & cute. I think your facial expressions were enjoyable to look at while you were driving & trying to remember the correct order of everything. You have a great energy level. Super job!
Here are some driving tips. 1. Adjust the seat to suit you. 2. Adjust the rear view mirrors to suit you. You need to see where your rear wheel are. 3. If the steering wheel is adjustable, then adjust it to suit you. 4. If you have an operator's manual, read it and preferably while sitting in the truck, you need know what does what. Ask dad to set up an area away from everything and practice turns, and reversing, starts and stops. And put in for your Xmas pressy..an electric tarp.😉 That was one hummdinger of a video 👌,(1883 origin of hummdinger..Livingston Montana) Go dad and Darcy...legends. Thank you and stay safe. 🇦🇺🇺🇲

Great video Kate . I have never driven a truck that was an automatic .. I had a manual transmission . It would have to learn the proper way to drive one .. You looked nervous , learning how to drive properly & excited at the same time . The look on your face is priceless .. Either the truck is too tall or you are just a few inches to short .. On some tarps that roll over the handle is adjustable . I heard about one truck driver who rolled the tarp over but he didn't crank it up under the lip to keep it tight . I've even had some problems at times . I grew up using the tarps you had to get up on the bed of the truck and fold it up towards the front of it . You did a good job for the first time .. Thanks for another great video .. I can't remember at the age you are able to get a CDL .. Your dad did a great job explaining what to look for .. Sorry I don't have an emoji of a truck , & Sorry for my long comment
Thank you so much for your great story and kind and encouraging words. I am only 5'2" tall so it is difficult to reach a lot of things! LOL, I was nervous and excited because this was such a great learning experience.
When I was 17 truck driving was so much fun and I had the same enthusiasm as you Kate. Now I am 57 and don't find truck driving as much fun but I am still out there doing it when need be. Your dad is pretty cool. And you guys look like your having fun at work
We can give tips, the ''problem'' is that the material you ride is very different from what we ride here in Europe ... but nice that you dare and learn on older material which is better than on new stuff, keep an eye out and everything will be fine, and go sit relaxed in the (well-adjusted) chair, that also saves a lot.... keep it up! ;-) Greetings from a European truckdriver.

I know we all saw the excitement in your face. Your facial expressions were to die for. Maybe a little nervous but determined. You also checked your mirrors and that's very important. Great job for the first time.
My dear Kate I just got through watching your video of you driving your families Freightliner truck to the grain elevator . I enjoyed the whole video. Great video Kate. Keep on practicing driving the truck it can be useful for you and your dad. this could mean more jobs opening up too you while you are working on the farm. So it's almost time to say combine & Truck driver don't you think? You asked for some tips so here is two for you. Tip #1, Keep asking questions, and learn all the tips and tricks from all the people that are working around you on the farm. You have a wealth of information at the tip of your hands so use it. Tip #2, There is no such thing as a stupid question, If you do not know the answer to it. So keep on asking them. lasts question: Is learning to driving the tractors next? Thanks for the videos Kate. See you next time.
LOL!! Thank you so much for your great comment. When I watched the video I laughed because I didn't realize how much expression I had on my face. I am sure that I will have a lot more expressions when I actually drive a semi-truck!!!!!
Ok Ok,, welcome to Kate's Trucking,, WoW... your a big girl now.. Your Family must be glowing. your an inspiration to your family Tree.I am shocked. Really.. Well Kate as they say Keep on Trucking.. Have a beautiful Weekend,, Maybe your Dad might let you use the truck.. Beautiful video..Thank you for sharing. I guess I'll just drive my car,, Geez
LOL!!!!! Thank you so much! I just love your comments because they are so great, kind, inspiring and hilarious!!! I'm not sure I can take the truck out unsupervised just yet!!! LOL My dad might freak out.
Kate the best comment that I can give you is to keep your eyes on the road ahead of you. Cause it only takes a few seconds and you will be in a wreck. You see you only have a few seconds to look at your mirrors on both side of your truck. So when you are with your father in the truck driving always think safety first. Cause you see Kate I had a bad truck wreck on April 24 th. 2004 at 10:30 am . I looked off for a few seconds and it was to late I had already ran off of the hiway and the truck turned upside down going down the ditch spreading fertilizer for about 80 feet down the ditch. I had a hard time getting out of the sit belt. You see I was hanging upside down in the truck. But I findly got out of the sit belt and got out of the upside down truck. All I had was a cut on the side of my head where the mirror hit me when it turned over. So Kate just please be very careful when you are driving big truck. Budd R Hicks

The look of concentration on your face is precious. You might want to bottle that for future use.... say when your operating a semi?
LOL!! Thank you so much for your great comment. When I watched the video I laughed because I didn't realize how much expression I had on my face. I am sure that I will have a lot more expressions when I actually drive a semi-truck!!!!!

Thank you so much for your great advice!
