  • Runaway Tractor! HELP!!! Montana Farming 2021
In today's video I have a scary tractor seeding experience! I am now running the tractor and drill by myself. After I go around the corner I can't get the tractor to stop! I made a mistake and I have learned a great deal from that experience. I am very grateful that Uncle Chris and my Dad are patient and willing to teach me how to seed. This is the most important part of farming because without seed we have no crop. I hope you like my video! Thank you for watching!

    My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

Above all else, your an entrepreneur. Goodness it’s exciting that the whole world gets to see where this takes you. Montana farmers are warrior farmers with warrior spirits. It’s the only way to make it, bitter painful cold, arid, but beautiful landscapes. 👍

The video where Kate ran away with John Deere. You and John have been serious for a while now. You might do well to write a checklist and keep it near you in the cab. Include things like turning on the fan. You coped with the drama really well. For most there would have been more "EFF's" than just the F button you were talking about. Kate, you're the real deal. You are so authentic in showing what it really looks like to do something extremely technical by yourself for the first time. There are so many things going on all at the same time. Your courage and strength and inquisitive nature is such a gift. I have loved listening to you asking Uncle Chris all sorts of questions, and I can see you digest the information. Learning by doing, is a whole other ball game. It was so fun to see your extreme excitement 'I'm doing it!! I'm running the drill by myself!" That excitement is what is going to keep you going through the ups and downs of the learning process. You have incredible grace and are doing a wonderful job farming. Thank you for all of your hard work!

    😎😎😎
Losing control can be scary .
In my younger days I was driving in the city, stopped behind a car at a traffic light ,when the light went green I stepped on the gass and the throttle spring broke ,and the throttle went wide open, so my first reaction was to hit the brakes, so while holding the brakes the back tires were spinning .
I couldn't shut the car off or I would be stuck in the road, I saw a parking spot and with the motor revving and the back tires spinning I managed to guild the car into it. Than I shut it off , as I got out of the car I looked around and saw people looking at me like I was some kind of nut.
    😄
But like you ,no damage and no one got hurt ,
    So we good.

Ok--Nice going Kate--this stands out.....I'm a flight instructor and teacher by nature......gently, your Dad could use a little coaching on "How to teach". # 1 Most things are easy ONCE you know how and what to do. # 2 One of the main jobs of a teacher is to break down a sequence so that the student can ABSORB, understand and assimilate the learning process. His slight impatience (I know he loves you) is a hinderance to you learning the turning procedure. Just my thoughts. Actually, he should have (maybe he did) explain the turning sequence on paper at the kitchen table (lots of time--no pressure) with you explaining it back to him (pretend YOU'RE teaching HIM how to turn). Good luck--keep going---love your spirit--I'm either giggling or rolling my eyes.

Honest people doing honest work. Pops is a little harsh but at least he is splaining stuff.

🇨🇦/🇺🇸... I dunno, Kate. Looks like rocket surgery to me! I I think you did pretty good for your first time! I've heard that farming is one of the most dangerous jobs with a high rate of injuries and so the most important thing is to not panic and think ahead and to turn off anything that needs turnin' off! lol You seem pretty confident about your abilities to learn everything and I think that's well founded! 😀

I love watching Kate having episodes of sheer joy, happiness and fun like this! So dag-gone adorable! Best entertainment ever in my opinion! When she lights up, it is contagious and makes me light up with smiles too! :-)
Kate discovered what neutral gear can do on a slope! Scary! Remember that if you ever put a 4 wheel drive truck's transfer case into neutral too! It will uncouple the gear box to the parking brake/pawl inside of an automatic transmission or a manual transmission parked in gear and will cause it to roll away too!
Thanks for the video, Kate! Enjoy!

Even when you're experienced, we still make mistakes because we're human. haha Like the old saying goes ''if you fall off the horse gotta get right back on'' so I'm glad to see you keeping a can do, positive attitude and continuing on seeding with dad's help! Good job Kate ( and family ) . Any new task you learn takes time and practice before skill becomes natural . The mild scare you had will be a learned moment for a lifetime and ultimately make you better at the job as you work to prevent that from happening again . Both your uncle and mostly your dad may sound harsh on the surface ,but he has learned by mistakes too and his MAIN concern above anything else is the safety of his girl !! He really emphasizes how critical certain aspects of running the tractor and drill can be , not to put you down ,but to educate you and lift you up !! As your dad wisely pointed out ,you are " trying " and that's what he sees with each pass you make down the field . I see his pride in you too through these videos and would be certain he lets you know often ... heck I'm proud of you and I'm just a CZcams watcher . Go out and take hold each day Kate , you can do it !

After everything is going to be made very easy, sometimes it puts us, ostacles where there are none but you overcome the fears and you are beginning to be an excellent farmer something that is born to you, sometimes we do not follow the trades of our parents in me In case my father was a bricklayer and a farmer, I followed the profession of automotive repainting and welding in general, how incredible that a girl as beautiful as, You continue with that work so worthy of cultivating those prodigious lands to supply us with food.🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🌹🌹🌹🌸🌼🌷🌺

When you're on a Tractor that has no brake, try not to panic. Move the Tractor to an area you can drive in a circle, check to see how much gas you have in the tank. If you can drive in a circle it will eventually run out of gas. You can check to see how far you are from the Farmhouse, and or the garage or Park area for the Tractor. If it's a clear path watch the needle on the gas gauge to see, if is on empty then try driving slowly toward that area using the gear shift Neutral to Drive or Reverse and back again if it will allow you to. Try shutting it off when the brakes fail to stop it or drive it in a square pattern. Remember, to leave Dad a note to check the brakes before he drives it. Good luck!

It happens, I was harvesting cranberries last week after 18 hours on the bog loader. I got in the tractor to go back to the farm, and I couldn't get the tractor to move.
I forgot to turn off the parking break. Kept reving up the tractor, turned on the 4x4, got out to see if I threw a belt. Couldn't figure it out for like 8 minutes. 27 years of farming I felt stupid once I figured it out. I just called it stupid tired, but I had to beat the first freeze. Keep going you'll learn
