- Runaway Tractor! HELP!!! Montana Farming 2021
In today's video I have a scary tractor seeding experience! I am now running the tractor and drill by myself. After I go around the corner I can't get the tractor to stop! I made a mistake and I have learned a great deal from that experience. I am very grateful that Uncle Chris and my Dad are patient and willing to teach me how to seed. This is the most important part of farming because without seed we have no crop. I hope you like my video! Thank you for watching!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
Kate, I know 30 year old guys that couldn't run a machine that big. Be proud of yourself. I know I am. Also a big shout out to Dad for teaching you so well.
Hi Mr. Gateman! Thank you for your amazing and kind words!!! You made my day!
@@KatesAg Kate. Carl works fine too. No Mr. Hahaha. You and your dad make MY day. Hahaha
Hello I am Cambodian I so happy when I watched your videos
Great enthusiasm and you have the right attitude. You’re not afraid to make mistakes and not afraid to show them. The age old saying “If you’re not making mistakes, you are not learning”. Looks like you have good teachers
Thank you for your kind words and great story!! I am definitely learning....to use the brakes!!!! LOL
I love learning about farming through your personal experiences. I never took farmers for granted and I've learned so much from your videos.
I'm glad you stopped your tractor on your own. City folks would google, "how do I stop my tractor", as the tractor rolls on to Canada.
LOL! Thank you for your hilarious and kind words!!! I might have rolled to Canada too!!! LOL
You are learning valuable skills Kate. Nobody can tax or take away knowledge and abilities. It will always be yours, lock, stock and barrel.
Above all else, your an entrepreneur. Goodness it’s exciting that the whole world gets to see where this takes you. Montana farmers are warrior farmers with warrior spirits. It’s the only way to make it, bitter painful cold, arid, but beautiful landscapes. 👍
Hi Mr. Vicarri! Thank you!! This was a hard lesson and it made a big impact on me!!! I appreciate your support and great encouragement!
@@KatesAg Got a minute? Cuz I have a book full of “Tommy’s” I’ve pulled over the years. It’s real easy not to make mistakes. Don’t do anything. I say keep on keeping on.
Your dad is a wise man..."you're trying." I believe that is the smartest thing anyone can say.
Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!!! I am grateful that my Dad takes the time to help me!!!!
Yikes run away planter!!! Remember Kate Hydrostatic will hold them selves pretty good. But tractors will roll in neutral so you have to use the brakes.
Thank you for your great comment and advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Kate is back, long over due. The whole world is a better place. Well done Kate great to see you back.
Hi Mr. Tynan! Thank so much!!! You made my day!
Hey Kate no harm no foal, you are correct you just learned a lesson with out breaking anything. Just listen to your Dad, he's just being a Dad. God give you patience
Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!! I really am learning a lot from my big mistake!
The video where Kate ran away with John Deere. You and John have been serious for a while now. You might do well to write a checklist and keep it near you in the cab. Include things like turning on the fan. You coped with the drama really well. For most there would have been more "EFF's" than just the F button you were talking about. Stay safe and keep the smile alive.
LOL!!! Mr. Finucane you made my day!!! Thank you for your hilarious and kind comment!!!!
I love how you handle things. I see so many toxic males and females over asserting themselves when they are uncomfortable that it's a real treat to see joy in the learning process or even in the experience building process. You're a gem in a world of rocks
Thank you so much for your kindness and great encouragement!!! You made my day!
Вся в трудах, вся в заботах!
Спасибо за отличный комментарий !!! Совершенно верно!
Remember your fathers statement; "slow down, we are not in a race". Got to luv your Dad ! Sure enjoyed this video.
LOL! Thank you for your great comment and kindness!!!!!!!!!!
Kate, you're the real deal. You are so authentic in showing what it really looks like to do something extremely technical by yourself for the first time. There are so many things going on all at the same time. Your courage and strength and inquisitive nature is such a gift. I have loved listening to you asking Uncle Chris all sorts of questions, and I can see you digest the information. Learning by doing, is a whole other ball game. It was so fun to see your extreme excitement 'I'm doing it!! I'm running the drill by myself!" That excitement is what is going to keep you going through the ups and downs of the learning process. You have incredible grace and are doing a wonderful job farming. Thank you for all of your hard work!
Thank you for your amazing kindness and great encouragement! You made my day!
you are awesome and brave God bless you and your family 🥰🌻
Thank you for your kind words and blessing!
This reminds me of when my father taught me how to drive a car, only he wasn’t as patient!
LOL! Thank you for your great story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have a great dad, he never gets upset at you. He said it perfectly that you are trying plus giving you great advice from his own knowledge. .
Thank you for your kind words! I totally agree and I am very grateful for my dad's help!!!!
I Love It, Kate. It's like You are an F18 pilot...so confident.
LOL! Thank you for your great and kind words!!!! You made my day!
Lol dad speed up slow down turn tighter don’t turn so sharp come wide slow down ha ha your dad cracks me up.
LOL!!! Thank you! Yes, dad is hilarious!
😎😎😎
Losing control can be scary .
In my younger days I was driving in the city, stopped behind a car at a traffic light ,when the light went green I stepped on the gass and the throttle spring broke ,and the throttle went wide open, so my first reaction was to hit the brakes, so while holding the brakes the back tires were spinning .
I couldn't shut the car off or I would be stuck in the road, I saw a parking spot and with the motor revving and the back tires spinning I managed to guild the car into it. Than I shut it off , as I got out of the car I looked around and saw people looking at me like I was some kind of nut.
😄
But like you ,no damage and no one got hurt ,
So we good.
LOL! Thank you for your great and hilarious story and kind words!!! It is good that no one got hurt, I totally agree!!!
If the tractor runs away again Kate, put your feet on the brake pedal and clutch pedal, that should stop everything.
Every days a School Day regardless of how experienced you are..keep up the good work 💪
Thank you for your great advice!!! Yes I made a big mistake by forgetting about the brake!!!! LOL I am learning a lot that is for certain!!!!!
Wow Kate! You're moving up in the world! It's cool how your Dad has you set to work the Tractors and helps you learn. That's a big responsibility which you handle so well!
Thank you for your kind words!! I am learning and making big mistakes and that means I am really learning!!! LOL
@@KatesAg that's right! And you never forget those! :-)
Ok--Nice going Kate--this stands out.....I'm a flight instructor and teacher by nature......gently, your Dad could use a little coaching on "How to teach". # 1 Most things are easy ONCE you know how and what to do. # 2 One of the main jobs of a teacher is to break down a sequence so that the student can ABSORB, understand and assimilate the learning process. His slight impatience (I know he loves you) is a hinderance to you learning the turning procedure. Just my thoughts. Actually, he should have (maybe he did) explain the turning sequence on paper at the kitchen table (lots of time--no pressure) with you explaining it back to him (pretend YOU'RE teaching HIM how to turn). Good luck--keep going---love your spirit--I'm either giggling or rolling my eyes.
My daddy says it’s easier to teach flying cuz of 2 sets of controls.
@Charles Amrhien Thank you for your great suggestion and kind words! This is sort of on the job training with no diagrams, but that is a wonderful idea!!!!! LOL I definitely know how to use the brakes now!!!
@America_and_Avigail Farm_Kids Thank you for your great comment. I think you might be right about that. The two controls really help a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are doing fine,, some young folks won't listen to the older folks but that's how we all learn is from listening and watching.
Thank you for your kind words! I totally agree and that is exactly why I listen and especially after I make a big mistake!!!! LOL
@@KatesAg one of my teachers once told us," I don't care how many mistakes you make, as long as it not the same one over again."
When we do that tricky work by our own. It feel very happy!!
Just like you are feeling right now while drilling!!
Keep it up!!
Thank you for your kind words and great encouragement!
AMAZING JOB KATE.
Thank you for your kindness!!!!
good job kate. you are learning quickly!
Thank you for your kindness!!!! I am definitely learning from my mistakes!
Dad is handing over the best he knows and owns to his daughter. He is a good and confident master who wants the art to continue. Great man. So calm and loving and happy.
Thank you for your kindness and great encouragement!
You might not be most Experienced tractor driver but I think you’re the cutest❤️

Thanks Kate, another Big Sky day to start the growing process all over again, and the first time driving the drill!
Thank you for your kind words and great comment!!!!
You're one of the most real and genuine people i've seen ,especially at your age.You have a rare and unique personality that sets you apart from others.....Keep doing what you're doing and just keep being yourself....It works.
Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!!!!!!!!!!! I appreciate them!
Hi Kate. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, your positive attitude is infectious.👍
Thank you for your kindness and great encouragement!!!
Tractor people are especially adorable when wearing their pearls!
LOL! Thank you for your great comment!
When my dad was giving me driving lessons
I parked our car on what I thought was flat ground without the hand brake on.
The car rolled down the paddock and through a 7 wire fence nearly into the river.
The only damage was a cracked indicator lamp.
We both watched it happen.
The only time we were both speechless.
LOL!!!! Thank you for your wonderful and hilarious story!!!!!
You did really well. You can’t be an expert when you are just beginning. You now have a new job, seeding.
Thank you for your kindness!!! I am learning from my big mistakes that is for sure!!!! LOL I appreciate your great encouragement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As long as you learn by your unwanted operating events, you will be OK. Your so lucky to have a great dad, and of course Chris and Darcy...all are legendary. 👍👌🙏🇦🇺🇺🇲
LOL! Thank you for your great comment and kind words! I have learned a lot from my mistakes!!!!
Hang in there! My first time pulling a drill I tried to turn too short and bent the drills hitch. I was 6 years old!
Thank you for your great story and kind words!!!!!!!
6 years old!!! Holy Moly. How long have you farmed?
I am probably old enough to be Kates grandpa! Not farming anymore we sold our farms in 2005. Dry land farming in southwest Oklahoma got to be a losing proposition.
What an adventure Kate! Thank you for letting us come along for it.
Thank you!! I totally agree it was an adventure!!!! LOL I learned a lot from my big mistake!!!
Кate!!! 🖐️👍
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ask your dad about his biggest screw up. No one is born ready like the movies. Good video
LOL! Thank you for your wonderful kindness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
New experiences will always have fair share of challenges, you did great, you'll learn from your little close call and be a better operator the next time you hop in the seat! Way to go Kate!
Thank you for your kind words!!! I am learning a lot and I am very grateful for the experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to see someone happy and out doing it. Nice to see your Dad passing on great advice.
Thank you for your kind words! I am so glad that Dad is helping me.
Your doing great young lady, just don't get shook. If you don't know something just get on the 2-way and ask your Dad and he will tell you. I see he's explaining things to you. I still get on the 2-way and ask questions if I'm not sure, but you will be ok.
Thank you for your kindness and great advice! That radio is a good thing!!!!!
As always Kate you get stuck in and meet the challenge head in, love your approach, you rock!! 😁
Thank you for your great and kind words!!!! You made my day!!!
First video of yours I watched, really liked that you left in the mistake and your dad teaching after the fact. I think all of us farm kids can relate and know exactly how you felt!
Thank you so much for your wonderful and kind words! I made a lot of mistakes and I sure learn a lot! I definitely know how to use the brake now!!! LOL
You are awesome learning and stepping up to new task. Your family is so lucky to have you! Keep up and stick with it… You got this!
Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!!! I appreciate your encouragement! I sure learned a lot today!
@@KatesAg your lucky to have a family like your’s that help you grow and learn. Most are not as fortunate as you are. Every dad can be overwhelming at times but you can tell his heart is there for you!
Kate just remember every day is a school day.
The more you do the more you learn.
To be honest from what I see on your vids your doing a great job.
Well done Kate and thanks for sharing ❤️👍🥁🇬🇧🚜❤️
Thank you! I totally agree!!! I love learning!
Oh and I wanted to say that it’s very brave of you to be learning all of this stuff, a lot of people have a lot of fear of learning things, especially intimidating things like this, it’s very admirable!
Thank you! I appreciate your kindness!!!
Dad explains more but Uncle is a lot calmer when teaching ., Your Dad makes me nervous when watching LOL Good Job it takes practice to learn the job seat time is the best teacher just make sure to ask questions . there are no dumb questions when learning a new job
LOL! Thank you for your kind words!!! I love to ask questions and I also love to talk!
Always look forward to your vlogs Kate. Well done on the seeding
Thank you for your kind words and great encouragement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's that smile and wave Thanks Kate
Thank you so much!!! You are very welcome!
Kate you are so awesome on how you operate such big tractors and all the farm equipment 🙌🏽
Thank you!
This is so cool.
Honest people doing honest work. Pops is a little harsh but at least he is splaining stuff.
Other farming channels are boring, or boorish- pretty boys keen on shouting, posing, and showing how clever they are with no ongoing context, insight, or humility.
Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!!! You made my day!
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... I dunno, Kate. Looks like rocket surgery to me! I I think you did pretty good for your first time! I've heard that farming is one of the most dangerous jobs with a high rate of injuries and so the most important thing is to not panic and think ahead and to turn off anything that needs turnin' off! lol You seem pretty confident about your abilities to learn everything and I think that's well founded! 😀
LOL!!! Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!!! I really appreciate them!!!
I love watching Kate having episodes of sheer joy, happiness and fun like this! So dag-gone adorable! Best entertainment ever in my opinion! When she lights up, it is contagious and makes me light up with smiles too! :-)
Kate discovered what neutral gear can do on a slope! Scary! Remember that if you ever put a 4 wheel drive truck's transfer case into neutral too! It will uncouple the gear box to the parking brake/pawl inside of an automatic transmission or a manual transmission parked in gear and will cause it to roll away too!
Thanks for the video, Kate! Enjoy!
Thank you for your kindness and great story!!!! I really learned a lot!!!!!
I gotta hand to your dad he is a very good trainer and he loves you very much.
Yes I totally agree! Thank you!
Hi Kate, You, your dad, and your family are an awesome team to watch. Best regards !
Thank you for your kind words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kate, thank you for showing the world your beautiful energy.
Thank you for your kindness!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're doing great Kate! Part of learning is that you're going to make mistakes just like your Dad and Grandpa did when they were learning. Even when you're experienced, we still make mistakes because we're human. haha Like the old saying goes ''if you fall off the horse gotta get right back on'' so I'm glad to see you keeping a can do, positive attitude and continuing on seeding with dad's help! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your wonderful kindness! I agree and I am very grateful to be learning and getting Dad's help!!!!
Great Job 👍, UR learning so much from very good Teachers . Super Fun to Watch. Excellent Channel. You Rock Farm Lady.

Thank you!
Lots of years experience in your Dad…….you are doing great learning from him! It would take years to learn everything so you are doing great so far!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kindness and great encouragement!
No humans or machinery were hurt in the creating of this video. The rock will likely never be the same but as far as I know it won't be able to take you to court. Keep on farming, Kate. You are doing a great job.
LOL!!! Thank you for your wonderful and hilarious and kind words!!!!!!!!! You made my day!
Good job keeping your head in a stressful situation. Scary, but you learned from it and are now a better driver.
Thank you for your kind words and great encouragement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a bit scary!!! LOL
Great job Kate, lots to consider and keep track of running drills. I don’t think many people realize how much attention it takes to get it right. You are so lucky to have a great teacher like your Dad!
Thank you for your kindness! I am so grateful that my Dad takes the time to teach me and help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
💯
Good job Kate ( and family ) . Any new task you learn takes time and practice before skill becomes natural . The mild scare you had will be a learned moment for a lifetime and ultimately make you better at the job as you work to prevent that from happening again . Both your uncle and mostly your dad may sound harsh on the surface ,but he has learned by mistakes too and his MAIN concern above anything else is the safety of his girl !! He really emphasizes how critical certain aspects of running the tractor and drill can be , not to put you down ,but to educate you and lift you up !! As your dad wisely pointed out ,you are " trying " and that's what he sees with each pass you make down the field . I see his pride in you too through these videos and would be certain he lets you know often ... heck I'm proud of you and I'm just a CZcams watcher . Go out and take hold each day Kate , you can do it !
Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!!!!!!!!! I really appreciate them!
Kate your the girl to get the job done. Your instructors are very good and your a good listener and learner. Stay alert and be safe.
Thank you for your kindness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are an inspiration to all.
Keep up the great work, positive attitude and enthusiasm.
God Bless

Your videos just keep getting better, this was fantastic! Thank you.
Thank you! I really appreciate your kindness!!!!
Hello Kate. I grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin in the 1970's and 1980's. Watching you learn for to do fieldwork brings back a lot of memories of my dad teaching me. It looks like you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos.

Good Thursday morning to you all in the USA from Wellington Somerset in the UK
Hello from Montana! Thank you for your nice greeting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is not as difficult as harvester tractor and field planting works, sowing seeds is a bit difficult, good work kate. :))
Thank you for your great comment and kind words!
Great job, Kate! You are learning so much and your eagerness to learn is a joy to watch. Someday that farm is going to be yours ... those of us who count of your produce are very happy knowing it'll be in good hands.
Thank you for your kindness and great encouragement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Kate, how wonderful that at your age you are already learning to sow those beautiful plains, and that you take your tractor and dedicate yourself to sowing perfectly without so many indications from your experienced father. After everything is going to be made very easy, sometimes it puts us, ostacles where there are none but you overcome the fears and you are beginning to be an excellent farmer something that is born to you, sometimes we do not follow the trades of our parents in me In case my father was a bricklayer and a farmer, I followed the profession of automotive repainting and welding in general, how incredible that a girl as beautiful as, You continue with that work so worthy of cultivating those prodigious lands to supply us with food.🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🌹🌹🌹🌸🌼🌷🌺
Hi Mr. Robalino. Thank you for your wonderful compliment and kind words and amazing story!!!
Scary runaway- it's that relationship of clutch, braking and accelerator that's important to understand. Same on the semi trucks. Of course there are videos for everything. All the best - awesome channel...
Thank you for your great comment and kindness!!! Yes I learned from my mistake!!! LOL
It's all a learning experience, Kate. Your Dad will help you get it right. Like your Dad says just keep trying. You have a great attitude. It will help you be successful. :)

Thank you for your kindness and wonderful encouragement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You did fine for your first time Kate! Love how passionate you are about farming!!
Thank you for your kind words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kate, you are a classic ! Not many people on CZcams show their "mistakes" when learning , which makes you so unique and a pleasure to watch! Remember , you have far more skills than many young ladies out there, and your Dad would not let you run expensive gear by yourself if he didn't have confidence in you.
We all love your fresh approach , integrity and genuine enthusiasm for what you do . Stay safe and thanks for the videos:-)
Gregg .
Thank you so much for your kindness and great encouragement!!! I think that everyone makes mistakes and that it is important to show that. I made a big mistake and I learned a lot from it. Thank you again! You made my day!

Same here! I missed it before and mentioned it to her. Her "byeeee" and wave are absolutely adorable! That has become one of her trademarks in my opinion!
Hello kate that runaway tractor was very scary, but everything went fine and I am happy you are okay.
As you have become so good at driving the combine you will become so in a short time even with a large seeder.
Your happiness and your desire to learn hit me every time I watch your video and they are unmistakable.
One of the many things I like about your videos is to hear your sweet byeee at the end of each video.
Have a great day.

Your Dad is a wealth of information, he is like an agriculture scientist, it's amazing listening to his knowledge and watching you catch on so quickly Kate 👏
Thank you for your amazing kindness and huge compliment!!!
Congratulations! You are great , Amazing, well done , young Lady
Thank you for your amazing kindness and huge compliment Dr. Ochoa!!!
When you're on a Tractor that has no brake, try not to panic. Move the Tractor to an area you can drive in a circle, check to see how much gas you have in the tank. If you can drive in a circle it will eventually run out of gas. You can check to see how far you are from the Farmhouse, and or the garage or Park area for the Tractor. If it's a clear path watch the needle on the gas gauge to see, if is on empty then try driving slowly toward that area using the gear shift Neutral to Drive or Reverse and back again if it will allow you to. Try shutting it off when the brakes fail to stop it or drive it in a square pattern. Remember, to leave Dad a note to check the brakes before he drives it. Good luck!
Thank you for your great advice and kindness!!! I learned to use the brake for sure!!!!! I forgot and what a big mistake that was!!! LOL
Good job Kate, may the Lord
Bless you and your crew and
Keep you all safe.
Thank you for your kindness and blessing!
Great of you to show your mistakes, Kate! What a great teacher Dad is too, very supportive!
Thank you for your wonderful and kind words!
And uncle Chris too!
@@joefudd Of course, Uncle Chris too!
It happens, I was harvesting cranberries last week after 18 hours on the bog loader. I got in the tractor to go back to the farm, and I couldn't get the tractor to move.
I forgot to turn off the parking break. Kept reving up the tractor, turned on the 4x4, got out to see if I threw a belt. Couldn't figure it out for like 8 minutes. 27 years of farming I felt stupid once I figured it out. I just called it stupid tired, but I had to beat the first freeze. Keep going you'll learn
Thank you for your wonderful story and great encouragement!! This was a big learning day for me and a big mistake!!!!
It is much the same as driving big truck. You have to be mindful of your off track. In this case the off track is your drill. Same principal. It becomes second nature after awhile.
Thank you for your great story and advice!!!!!!!!!! I really am learning a lot!
You are doing fine Kate. You are a quick learner.
Thank you for your kind words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hang in there Kate, you'll get it
Thank you for your great encouragement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
