Hey everybody, how's it going Today we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One wiring harness here on our 2018 Ford Transit Connect. So this is how we have our trailer connector secured to the vehicle. Now, there are a couple of different ways to do this. We'll go over those a little bit later with you in the video, but this set up here I like the best that provides the best install look. So with our system here, it's gonna come with a 4-pole flat trailer connector, which is the most basic kind. Most trailers are gonna use this.
If they have brakes, they'll need a larger 7-pole, in which case you'd need an adapter. We do sell these here at etrailer. But in regards to the 4-way, transferring the most basic signals such as the stop and turn as well as the running light circuit. So if we're towing a trailer, we're obviously gonna need some sorta trailer wiring harness in order to transmit those signals and remain legal. However, there's also some other uses of these trailer connectors, such as an LED light strip, or if you have a cargo carrier with any sort of built-in lights, you'll be able to utilize those with this kit.
So the nice thing about this kit is it actually has a powered module, and basically what this does is it pulls power from the vehicle's battery for the trailer lights, therefore we're not placing any additional strains on the factory taillight circuits. There's also built in diodes, that way we don't have to worry about any issues with our trailer affecting our vehicle. So in regards to installation, this is definitely an easier one you guys can do at home by yourselves. We don't have to make any modifications to the vehicle really. We're gonna have a plug in behind each of our taillight connectors, and then we're gonna have to run a power wire to the battery.
Let's go ahead and show you how to do that now. So to start our installation today, we're gonna come inside the rear of our vehicle here. We're gonna be starting on the driver's side. You're gonna have this little removable panel here. We're just gonna simply pull that out.
Now yours should be held in place with a couple clips along the edges. So you'll probably need some sort of tool to get in there and pry it free. Then once we do so, so we're gonna be removing the connector that attaches to our taillights. So it's kinda tucked back up in there. It's not really easy to see until we get it pulled down, but there's gonna be a locking tab on the side of the connector. You need to depress and then you can pull it straight out. So here's a better look at the connector here, and the other end of it is gonna be tucked inside that little metal panel up in there. So what we're gonna do is, we're gonna take our harness here. We're gonna take the connector with a yellow wire and we're just gonna simply make the connections together. They should only go in one way. And the other one's gonna be a little bit more tricky since it's tucked up in the panel there. There we go. Now we're gonna go ahead and secure our converter box. So we have this nice little double-sided pad here that comes in our kit. It's gonna work great for this. So we're just gonna simply peel that off and then stick it to that flat surface right there. So sometimes I like to give a little bit extra measure of security here, and go ahead and run a self-tapping screw through that top hole as well. Now, if you do that for your installation, you'll need to source one of these on your own. You do get a self-tapping screw that comes in your kit here, but we'll need to use that for our ground wire. Now we're gonna take our white ground wire, along with a self-tapping screw, we're gonna find another flat surface to ground this. We're gonna be going right here. So now we're gonna take our other connector here, with our green wire. We're gonna be running this over to the passenger side of the vehicle. So in order to get over there, we're gonna take a trim panel tool here, and we're gonna pry up this threshold panel so we can run it underneath. I'll go ahead and set this aside, we will be reinstalling it. So we got our wire ran over to the passenger side. All we did was lift up this little padding, this little foam material here. You can see, we have it ran here. We just took some clear tape to help hold it there so it doesn't move around on us. And we just did that all the way across. We pried this panel out a little bit so we could sneak the connectors between the body and that plastic panel. And now we just have them up here in this pocket. We'll just repeat those same connections we made on th

Well, this video was very helpful & I got the job done! My 10x6 cargo trailer is too heavy to pull. I pulled it 500 miles today - 60 mph on the highway was it, in 5th gear no less...so I spent $75.00 so I can install a fancy hitch plug light!
