    Mate do you work for pure fishing? All your rods and reels from one supplier. I own slammer stickbait set up but also shimano and daiwa set ups and other brands. I truly believe sponsorship or employment is influencing what you say bro

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  Před 4 lety +95

      I am sponsored by Penn and have access to the other pure fishing brands 100% Just about anyone that has followed me for a while knows this and how this came about as I am always completely transparent about it... Just like the kayak I’m on, I used Stealth and Penn gear before I had sponsorship, as you can clearly see in my older videos, and then was lucky to gain some support because of the videos I was doing. I never push products and have even shown Penn reels and rods failing on my vids. If you think Stealth were overjoyed with me showing me flip the skiff, you’re wrong 😅 Believe it or not have turned down quite a few big names simply because I didn’t use the product or believe it was something I couldn’t be honest about... at the end of the day I believe that CZcams is meant to be about the regular guy and not the big tv sponsored guy, that’s the reason I watch CZcams vids in the first place and started making the vids myself. I hope you stick around and see what I’m about, apart from these rod and reel arsenal vids I rarely bring up the gear and just let the regular use do the talking, if someone asked about it I’m always happy to answer. I guess the proof will be in the pudding over time, I’ve see many go down the other path as their channel grows... feel free to tell me to pull my head in if I do the same. Cheers Rod 👍

      @rokkitkit  Před 4 lety +52

      Hey All, Thought id pin this comment up the top and address this one... when it comes to sponsorship I hope most of you know how mine came about. I only have a handful of sponsors and they are all brands that I was using or had faith in already. In any case I never want to be the product pusher, if you see what i'm using and think it does a good job then that's great, if you don't like it, then that's fine too. Like I said to Joe above, always feel free to let me know if i'm loosing my way 🤙

    I love this video man. Its good to get your feed back on this set up.. Ive just been using the vertias rods for the last 12 months or so. And loving them. Incredibly great for the price, and really durable.
    I also started of with the penn spinfisher v6500. And loved that on my veritas.. and that got me started on the slammer series. So just baught the slammer 3 HS and its a beast of a reel.. worst part though is that your making me even more keen to get a couple more to add to the collection.. haha.. love your vids rokkit!

Great to hear your comments on the Penn spin reels, will have to give one a go sometime. If you ever get your hands on the new Alvey Orbiters, would be good to hear how they compare. I'm considering a Spinfisher VI as a replacement soft bait reel, but a Slammer III 2500 would be even better if Penn are listening!

    You Islander people are crazy. I would be freaking out about that spider in my house. Trying to capture it and take it outside, or if it hid in crevice trying to kill it. Anyways I ended up buying a 4500 sized slammer because of your videos. Handles everything here in California on party/cattle (head) boats up to school sized tuna and yellowtail (king fish) up to 25 lbs. My girlfriend and young nephew love it. Here in California tho we are still very much in love with conventional over head reels. You will always get a offhand comment from even other anglers and the crew sometimes if you are using a spinning fixed spool set up. I still use my modded out penn jigmaster and squidder from around the 70s sometimes for kicks. Both are older than I am by at least 22 years. Mostly I use my daiwa \avet overhead reels on a deck hand style rod.
    If fishing seabass or rockfish I'll use a Lexa 400 or luna 300 with a phenix black diamond inshore rod. Thank you for your video,excited to see what you put out this year.

    Hey Rod, I'm fishing off a jet ski and couldn't agree with you more about needing reels that are, or are almost, water tight. I'm currently using good quality Shimano spinning reels and a Maxel overhead reel for jigging but will be replacing the spinning reels with Penn Slammer III's when the Shimano's die. I use reel covers but the reels still end up getting wet as it's too fiddly to cover the reels in between each fishing spot so they are usually only covered for the trip out and the trip in.

    Bought some 8500 slammer 3s, gonna trial them on southern bluefin, big albacore, stripey trumpeter and big king flathead. We'll see how it goes but i'm confident they'll do the trick. All these trips around the place and you still havent come to Tassie? C'mon mate. You wont find diving and fishing quite like it anywhere else in the world.

    How ya doing Rod? I have been enjoying your vids and adventures for a few months now and so I finally went and purchased a 2020 Hobie PA12 w/360 drive, Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv with Panoptix Livescan, a Yakima easyrider trailer to haul it on. I'm going on my first kayak fishing excursion tomorrow morning. Thanks for the inspiration my friend, I don't live by the beach anymore but used too, but now I am in Colorado Rocky Mountains, so plenty of fishing here just not as big of fish lol, on another note have you heard of Twitch Live Streams? would love to see you do some live streams, anyway keep up the good work!

      Hey mate, good to hear you’re getting into it all and getting out there! Yes I have looked at twitch, even started an account but never did anything with it. I have done a few live streams on CZcams but to start from scratch on twitch got put on the back burner... probably should have though as the IRL stuff is growing fast👍

    Have you ever tried WFT Strong Braid to get more meters on the 5500 reels? I use the 32kg for metals from the rocks. At .22 i get close to 450m on my 5500 shimano baitrunner

    Hey Rod. Another great vid. Do you have braid on all you spinning reels? And do you use a leader, if so what size and knot do you use?

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  Před 4 lety +1

      Yea I use braid on all my reels now, I like the line sensitivity and line capacity. Line rating depends on the reel and target but I only use two knots these days, unit knot to hook or lure. Double uni for braid to leader. If I need to cast with thick line I’ll use a FG so it runs through the guide better👍

    I own 3 of the abu Garcia veritas rods and I find that sometimes the hook holder (small metal loop) that is on the bottom of the rod before the grip catches the line when I cast. It's not a common thing but I feel like if it didnt have that for me I would find it to be a much better rod

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  Před 4 lety

      Yep I just give my reels a good hosing after use and that’s it. The ipx6 sealing protects everything in both spool and main body. The only one that is close to getting exposed is a sealed bearing so you should be pretty good. Count hurt to give a little oil though, one place I do lube when needed is the bail arm and spring👍
