This is "Bango" from the original group who sang the original theme song and appeared as the Mosquitos here. We wrote this original song and I this is a hoot! Over 50 years since filming this and we are still alive and relevant. Thanks for the fun and a great rendition of our song. Kirby (Irving) would be very happy with this! I'll let Bongo (Ed) know about this! Warm regards to all who have enjoyed this show! Dr. George Patterson, The Wellingtons, AKA The Mosquitos. Thanks for the tribute to Kirby…our musical brains!
Dr. George Patterson . Thank YOU(and the others)for such great music. Us old enough to remember this, our lives and childhoods wouldn't have been as GROOVY without it. 😉😀👏👏👍👍
In the book "Here on Gilligan's Isle" written by Russell Johnson (the "Professor") and Steve Cox it was noted that the Wellingtons' (the group that sang the opening theme and played the "Mosquitoes") did not receive any residuals when this episode played in reruns. However, they did belong to the music union (BMI) and they were entitled to royalties for the two songs they sang in this episode. When Kirby Anderson ("Irving") called about 20 years later they found out they were entitled to as they said a "tidy sum" of money
i always wondered about that song, if there was just those few lines, or if the show didn't want to put three songs in the episode (including the Honeybees) so they cut off the first one. Thanks for giving me the chance to hear it all. (should have been a 60's hit.)
After "Rescue From Gilligan's Island", the next tv movie should have been about the Skipper searching out the members of this group so he could beat the hell out of them for not telling ANYONE that were 7 people still left on that island 15 years before.
(Geez, don't wanna talk in 3rd person, but, Google's name consolidation policies...AAUUGGHH!) Pat Phos Martin sez: Very cool, Bill...neato to see Dr. George chiming in, too. "The Mosquitoes" were one of the first "brewed up just for an episode" I remember from my kid-in-the-'60s" TV watching, and they were part of the impetus into my believing: "HEY! I'd like to have a job like that when I grow up!" Cheers to Bill Funt, and to The Wellingtons.
Were the songs Don't bug me and Hes a loser ever been recorded ? Is this version the way the whole song really goes or was it re vamped? I also loved the instrumental background music in that episode at the begining.Would love to hear the original full versions of all these songs.
JIO P I don't know of any complete recording of Don't Bug Me by The Wellingtons/Mosquitoes but perhaps one will turn up. In the meantime on the show you only ever heard the chorus so I wrote new verses and a bridge to go with it. Thanks for asking.
when the castaways did get back to civilization and told the authorities that the "Mosquitoes" left them there-that would have been the end of their musical careers!! LOL!!
I heard this exact music on several Perry Mason shows when somebody was listening to the radio. It was the mosquitoes music and the Honey Bee song. Instrumental.but it was on Perry Mason you know at least 10 years probably before the mosquitoes were on Gilligan's island so is that when you wrote the music ? was a public domain??
The chorus of Don’t Bug Me was written by The Wellingtons at the time of the series. I wrote the verses and bridge a few years ago. I don’t know who wrote You Need Me nor do I know if any of the music was stock music to begin with. Could you post a clip of a Perry Mason scene so there’s something to compare it to?
@@Funtasaurus you know I don't have any of it on any kind of recordedsupposed but I remember it was in two separate episodes and I'm trying to remember what it was about one of them was the episode 1 of the series of the episodes where Richard Anderson was the cop and the I think his name waslieutenant drum instead of trag you know the previous onebut the scene was a woman who was alone in her apartment she was all freaking out about something and she was listening to the radio and it was all I think at first I recognize the honey bee song and then I recognized he's a loser I it was the other two songsbut for the life of me I can't remember the guest stars of the show or much of the plot cuz I got so excited that I recognize the music I thought that was so cool I thought wowbut I love the mosquitoes episode of is my all-time favorite Gilligan's island I thought it was one of the most endearing of all the episodes and I thought everybody was just great I thought the choreographed of these a loser was just one of the pcorniest cutest things I've ever seen I thought was just hilarious and I thought a coordinated these guys are I just I just love the episode.one of my favorite parts was when they were listening to the honey bee saying and just their way they demoted was just us I loved it I loved every minute of that episode.

What Bill said! So pleased to have been a part of this unique project.
I would not run away from Mary Ann .
Great job on this, the tune was so catchy and am glad someone made a full version
Wow, even the Professor, who is usually such a stiff, gets so excited by the music that he joins the Conga line!
After the Mosquitoes concert on the Island was over-the Professor said "Maybe there's more to this tuneless discord than I can comprehend"
What a small helicopter
These wellingtons sang the original ballad of Gilligan's island 1964

Thats bingo bango bongo and Bill

That goes for Harold Hecuba, Eva Grubb, Tongo the Apeman, and a few others as well.
Jonathan Kincade must have really been worried--he would have been charged with attempted murder for trying to kill Gilligan for sport!!
Don’t molest me mosquito. Just let me eat my burrito. Little buddy, how about fix me & Mr. Howell a Mai Tai.
Damn this is a real song? Love it

Mrs Howell and her infamous scissors ✂️
How did the band play this song when the island has no electricity.
MTV unplugged.
The professor wasn't the only genius on the island obviously.

How did all 4 Mosquitoes and their gear fit into that helicopter? 0:23
Hey ... No one's allowed to ask questions like that ! ... LOL
It's television for christ's sake.

Drums need to be brought UP in the mix!
Hi Bill! it's Peter George from Backbeat , hope is going well! longtime since the old John Bull days.
Hey!!! Thanks for watching and saying hello!
A two man helicopter dropped off a 4 man band and their equipment. Uh, okay.
The Beatles. Dance guys.

I think the Monkees would of been better choice than the Mosquitoes
They did not yet exist. And even if they had it would have been a conflict of interests since Gilligan was up against the Monkees on another network.
If there's no electricity on the island how can these guys be playing thier guitars?
Geri Judd they're unplugged. Besides, it's TV.😋
Mrs. Howell was pretty trim.
Batteries or a portable generator, how they fit all 4 of them, plus pilot and rest of their gear in the helicopter is the question?
