    "This came out in, like, the 80s, right?" - This is THE anthem of the 80s ( along with Survivor's Eye of the Tiger, Burning Heart, and Whitesnake's Here I Go Again ).
    I would posit it's almost impossible for someone over the age of 25 to have never heard this before. You may not consciously know it, but you'll recognize it when it comes on. Just like Hotel California, Respect, Billie Jean, Good Vibrations, Every Breath You Take, and a few others.

  • @VerchielxKanda
    @VerchielxKanda Před 2 lety +2

    Rick Allen, the drummer, lost his arm in a horrific car accident when he was 21. He had been with Def Leppard since he was 15. They DEFINITELY weren't gonna abandon him, even though so many people were telling them to get a new drummer. They stayed with him and waited for him to heal and re-teach himself how to play. He has a special kit in which his left pedal can emulate what his left arm could do. He still suffers PTSD from the accident to this day, and says drumming and painting is meditational healing for him. He's opened charities for wounded veterans and people who have had amputations.

    The band didn't play for like 2 years waiting for the drummer to heal and to relearn a different way to play drums. I admire them for that! Love the 80's!!!!

  • @tgcali5150
    @tgcali5150 Před 4 lety +1

    The band stopped performing live from 1984 to 1986 to allow Rick Allen to recover and relearn the drums with the help of a specially built electric drum kit. They had a couple of shows with a second drummer as back-up and then he made his official return to performing live, solo, with the band at Monsters of Rock. This is what he had to say about it: "Before the show, we had decided to treat it like just another gig, but without getting too cheesy, there was a vibe of overwhelming love, and I knew within a number or two that it would be fine. There was a groundswell of energy from the audience, willing Joe to say something. He had no choice. When he introduced me so beautifully, and the roar of the crowd was so loud, I burst into tears. I thought, ‘Shit… if I cry on these pedals will I get electrocuted?’ Thirty years on, that day remains in the top five moments of my life. Each time I’ve returned to Donington I’ve realized that it saw me become a man."

  • @alanpeterson4939

    I developed immense respect for this band after the accident. They were already a huge success, and could have ridden the wave with a replacement drummer, yet they put the band on hold until he could heal and recover. That decision and loyalty cost them millions. It was not a frivolous, easy decision. Great respect for their loyalty and sacrifice.

Told him they would find a way and they sure did, this band has been through a lot, lead singer bad case of mumps caused him to be steral, then Rick's accident, then the death of Steve the guitar player!
    lots of great music, Let's get rocked, rock of ages, fooling, Animal, love hurts, just to name a few! ....and I think the song is 🔥, did as a teen and still do 😆

    This came out in 1987.
    Yes, the drummer; Rick Allen (or the Thunder God as he's known as by Def Leppard fans) only has one arm. He lost his left arm on December 31 1984 in a car accident due to a faulty seat belt..
    And he always plays in his bare feet as I've heard him say in an interview that it gives him a better feel for the drums.

    What I like about 80 music the different bands had such respect for each other. For example, when Freddie Mercury died and the rest of Queen had a tribute concert for him. The other bands like Def Leppard, Guns-n-Roses and so much more; when they were asked to perform at the concert they didn't hesitate to sign on. There are so many songs to choose from and since I subscribed for the 1st time today; I haven't really looked through the react videos that have been posted. I can't wait and see. Thank You.

    Tom Cruise covered this song in the film Rock of Ages, along with Paradise City, Every Rose Has Its Thorn, and Don't Stop Believeing, along with the rest of the cast. Def Leppard was actually on set and in the crowd the day Tom Cruise filmed the performance of Pour Some Sugar On Me, and the group was blown away by it. One of the extras on the Blu Ray of the film features the group talking about Cruise's performance. If you haven't seen Rock of Ages, I recommend the film, as well as the performances by Tom Cruise in particular. He trained for about 5 months or so with a vocal coach for this movie, which is astounding, as his voice coach said it usually takes the average person about a couple of years to get to the level he did in such a short amount of time.

    Rick Allen is a great story for a drummer. Had to relearn etc, but persevered. And think of his bandmates - his best friends - at the height of their careers (to that point) after huge success of pyromania - they took 4+ years hiatus instead of cashing in on tours and another album or two over that time to give him time to learn and stay with them. It's a great story.
