As an Uyghur person, this shatters my heart. I haven't had any contact with my family since 2017 and the last thing I know is that my grandmother was taken to a concentration camp around that time as well. Every day I think about "Why her? why would they take an old woman?" and every day i worry about my other family members.

Fellow Canadian here, we screwed our Natives hard, as in, harder than the Americans have screwed up their own Native and African-American populations. All that progressive and polite Canadian stuff you see online wasn't always in our history. Even today, Canada does some pretty awful stuff with current Native treatments in their reservations and such. It's a shame that only recently have I found out all the truth about the concentration camps in Xinjiang. As a Russian girl, I had been doing Bachelor's in Beijing for almost 2 years and never knew anything about all of those atrocities. It's painful to hear that the family members from the video have been separated from one another for so long. I tried to talk to my Chinese pals about it but they only said that Uighur people were terrorists in the past and now they have to be re-educated.

With 30 percent tax taken from your paycheck, then another 9 percent sales tax, that is 40 percent of your paycheck forcefully taken from your hands. Unfortunately, no. China's oppression of ethnic minorities within its borders predates the CCP's existence and the Party even openly admits their ethnic minority policy is built on the same one Imperial China used for centuries. Warren Smith's book, "Tibetan Nation," goes into extensive detail.

In 2013 I visited Xinjiang province. That required a special vice from the embassy in Finland. I did take plenty of photos in Xinjiang but not of the most "interesting" things which were A) groups of soldiers with assaults rifles (live rounds or not, fortunately I did not get to know...) and B) random checkpoint inspections on road.
I bought a knife from local bazaar as a souvenir. When taking flight to eastern China, there was an alarm notice that prevented me from getting on the plane. The knife was in cargo luggage but it turned out that the knife's SLIGHTLY curved tip was considered simply illegal and the knife was not allowed to be taken away. However, the airport security chief was kinda cool and understood that it was just a nice souvenir and hence gave me the green light.
Now clearly things have gotten much worse from that of 2013, this just makes me feel sick.
Always when I'm crossing Germany I'm stopped by the highway police and checked for hours - only because I'm from eastern Europe side - kinda second hand citizen of Europe - so no worries, in Europe is going exactly same thing as in China

As someone that never really cries. This is so sad I was on the verge of crying to this video. If a persons environment is saturated with imagery, narratives and symbolism of any particular thing (i.e. LGBTQI or even Nazism), then they will undergo a gradual psychological change where their worldview / identity readjusts to reflect their environment. People have much less control over their thoughts and feelings than they think. Those who do not practice reflexivity are especially vulnerable to environmental manipulation. I think American attempts on the rather forceful and sudden push to amplify 'human rights' are an effort to 'reinvent / re-imagine' geopolitics to counter Chinese hegemony and global influence by appealing directly to the identity of a group (ethnic, national, sexual etc.) in order to retain global influence. I don't think the U.S. has a choice because it's inevitable that China will overtake the U.S. with our current global economic system. Hence the almost existential urgency to replace Trump out (representative of the current system) and install someone (and a new party) to steer the U.S. onto a trajectory that gives the highest chance of ensuring it retains global dominance. It is a massive gamble though.

I hate that the world is like this. But I can't exactly say that I can blame the people who are like this. Most people nowadays are just so emotionally and mentally beaten down that they don't have time for activism. If you've ever wondered why most activists seem like upper middle class yuppie types who don't belong to the groups they protest for, this is why. They don't have to work 2-3 jobs to survive that drains all their free time and physically+mentally exhausts them every day. And who often can't afford anything but cheap Chinese products, inevitably feeding into this persecution.
Maybe in the face of all of this my suggestion is gonna sound heartless, but I think if we fix things in our country we will have a significantly larger amount of people able and willing to fight against this. You can only fight for others at your own detriment for so long until you have nothing left to give and more people means more political power to exert on our own local governments to stand up to this abuse.

It's the result of a combination of factors, Lack of verification of foreign English teachers's qualification, lack of regulation. And Foreigners are treated as superiors in China, because of which the black English teacher was not fired but merely transferred to another department after being reported for sexually harassing female students for multiple times. He would have been fired when he was reported to harass female students for the first time in the US. But because they're viewed as superiors in China, CCP is backing them up, he was not fired, which led to subsequent endless harassing brewing up his audacity and eventually raping and killing this girl brutally who rejected him.
