China has been quietly detaining its population of Uighurs, the country’s Muslim minority, in internment camps. First-hand accounts from inside the camps paint a brutal picture of torture and political indoctrination. At first, China denied the existence of these camps and tried to cover them up. But as a network of academics and activists uncovered evidence of the camps' locations, and the reality of what’s going on inside, China changed its story.

it's a mintority, everyone has known about the huge list of crimes the CCP has committed the last several decades but nobody is doing anything against it because these Westerners pockets run deep thanks to the CCP. • @blkhwk303
      @blkhwk303 Před 2 lety

Not everyone forgot, it's just that China is very intermixed with the global economy, making actions against it slow and difficult to implement. But in January, Joe Biden signed into law the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, banning all exports from Xinjiang to the US. This is huge because cotton from Xinjiang alone made up 20% of the entire global cotton supply, and more countries are following suit.
Also this month the US and Germany have been pushing for the release of a UN report on the treatment of Uyghurs, which is set to come out very soon, and will then allow a motion for an investigation with unrestricted access to be performed by UN investigators. The movement for help is slower than anyone would like, but at least it's remaining steady, and hopefully soon it'll be enough return the rightful freedom to the Uyghurs, and safeguard their culture.

Another very clear fact is that the United States is the most active anti-Muslim country in the world. What qualifications do you have to say about China? Millions of people are in custody? Do you have any common sense? How many places do millions of people have to close down? Nonsense report, you may have deceived some people who do not know, but you can not deceive me. don't know if anyone's still watching this but an update 4 years later:
I went to xinjiang about 3-4 months after this video was posted in 2019, which you could say was the "peak" of these internment camps. My grandparents live there so I have a perspective somewhat, and from what I could gather they know nothing about the camps. In 2019, the security and EVERYTHING was just so tight, there were security checkpoints everywhere, and when we were in the first one, it almost felt like clearing security and customs at an international airport. we almost got denied entry because of my US passport, but luckily my parents are Chinese citizens so they let me through.
covid took a MASSIVE toll on all these measures, and i went back just a month ago. now, the security checkpoints are nonexistent. while in 2019 you had to go through a full patdown, manual luggage inspection, a whole 40 minute procedure, now you don't even have to get off the vehicle. the bus/taxi driver just goes up to an officer booth and are let through. my cousin just took the gaokao and is heading to college, yet he STILL doesn't know of the internment camps that are literally just a couple miles from his home.
china seems to be taking a different route with xinjiang now, which is tourism. on our flight from Beijing to urumqi, the capital of xinjiang, 80% of the passengers were tourists with tourist groups. my grandparents small town of 70k people has been completely transformed from a run-down small area to a almost bustling tourist hotspot. in just a couple years, luxury hotels, theme parks, full on nature walks (mind you xinjiang is in the middle of the desert), and things like that have rapidly been built. my uncle said it was "unbelievable" how fast all the infrastructure was built. we visited one of the tourist "attractions", which was basically a bustling square with a theme park (that wasn't open yet), a hotel, hundreds of small shops, and a show plaza where uighurs put on dancing shows during the evening. surprisingly the square was packed full of people, most tourists. the same is happening in many other towns.

Yet 99% of the people believe China has no problem at all and all the camps were just made up by the opposite countries like USA or UK... Even with the evidence in their face. One other detail to note: There is another Muslim ethnic group in China known as the Hui (回). The only difference is that the Hui are basically Han Chinese who converted to Islam. The Hui speak Mandarin Chinese and live both in Xinjiang and east of it, towards central China.
What China is doing with these internment camps is no different than what the U.S. and Canada did to the Native Americans in forcibly assimilating them. The only difference is that those North American countries acknowledge what happened and allow for free and open discussion of that history, whereas China tries to hide what it is doing.

After the collapse of Han dynasty, China regained it in Tang and Qing dynasty, and ROC till today's PRC. So Historically, it's China's land, there's no reason that China shouldn't take control of it.

every large protest, especially for black rights, in the past four years have ended in police violence or tear gassing or some other form of aggression to stop peaceful protests.
we have to look at ourselves and our own functions before we can ever cast shame on others.
the US ripped families apart and cages children who are looking for a stable home.
the US incarcerated mass amounts of black folk for possession of marijuana, and used their cheap, basically free prison labor to build our public infrastructure (slavery)
it is astounding how deeply ingrained being anti-china is in this country, and it makes sense. this american country and economy was FOUNDED on abusing human rights (native americans, black slaves) how could we expect to be anything but that?

Edit: this blew up. Wow i didn’t think my random thought would invoke so many discussions.
And i must address: please be respectful on this platform. It’s great to have disagreements and exchange ideas, but please be respectful and open minded.
I lived in China when I was little 2007-2014, and i was certainly not into politics or social issues as a child. So many things i don’t know could be just me being an ignorant kid.
However, i do think that it’s wrong to ban social media platforms such as CZcams and search engines such as Google in an attempt to censor or prohibit knowledge. Freedom of uncensored knowledge is a human right, tho it’s not possible to have anything uncensored, there should be at least freedom of press in every country. People should be able to see every side of the story and decide for themselves. Censoring and denying acts of violence is wrong in itself, and it is not a problem only within China.

The 1 million detainee figure is unreliable because it is only based on satellite images. No group other than the Chinese government know the real figure. Western media fail to mention that some of these detained Uyghur Muslims are religious extremists who preach Salafism and Wahhabism in Xinjiang. Salafism and Wahhabism are two extremely conservative ideologies based on the belief in returning to a purer Islam as practiced in the time of the Prophet Mohammed. These Muslims have caught the Chinese government’s attention as terrorist groups like ISIS and al Qaeda draw on elements of these teachings. They are different from the Muslims that live in the West who appreciate and abide by western liberal laws and values. Some Uyghurs that are not religious extremists are indeed sent to re-educational camps. These Uyghurs are poor and low educated farmers from Southern Xinjiang who don't speak much Chinese and only know how to farm. Most of these people live in poverty and feed themselves on growing wheat, raise cows and sheep on the oasis using the most traditional ways of agriculture. However, it is extremely vulnerable and sensitive to the harsh climate changes and water scarcity in Southern Xinjiang. Their food is purely based on the amount of water they get. If it is too hot in the summer and if you get little water from the mountains, you might end up with no food or no money.
The re-education camps teach these poor Uyghur farmers the national law, Chinese language and new skills (modern farming and manufacturing labour skills) so that they can move out of poverty and move to Northern Xinjiang where there are more opportunities. Western media are lumping the Uyghurs farmers and religious extremists together as if they learn in the same camp/schools, when they're not. They all indeed go to re-education camps because they're there to learn. However, farmers can go home, the religious extremists cannot.
The religious extremists are sent to re-educational camps and not prison because they haven't done anything severely wrong, just been caught preaching/practicing Salafism and Wahhabism. Salafism and Wahhabism is extremely backward interpretation of Islam and we should not be supporting these people. These conservative Islam ideologies are flourishing in many Muslim-majority areas of China because Chinese ISIS fighters have returned to Xinjiang to recruit new members. They are recruiting poor low educated Uyghurs farmers because they can be easily radicalized.

Yes, we have no way of knowing the exact number of people in these camps, but that doesn't mean Vox is over-estimating. For all we know, they may actually be under-estimating! And as I said, only the Chinese government and their victims know what's going on in those camps. Look at what Hitler managed to get away with for years. For all we know the Chinese may be doing something just as bad, if not worse. And the fact that they're doing this to a religious minority CLEARLY has parallels to the holocaust.
Though honestly, with how China's becoming more and more brazen, it may not be long until war breaks out and we do find out everything. I mean, they HAVE been covertly taking over Africa, and of course there's their actions in the south China sea. Oh, and they've been antagonizing Taiwan and India for a year or two now. They're obviously looking to pick a fight with SOMEONE. Who will win, of course, is anyone's guess.

This is a minor point, but the video initially refers to the Uyghurs as "China's Muslim minority", but there are other Muslims in China too. The Hui people are also traditionally Muslim. The main difference here is geographic location (The Hui are located more in the central interior, along the Gobi desert, iirc), and ethnicity/language (the Hui are sometimes considered "Han-ified", or a subset of the wider Han-category.). This isn't to take away from the video, just to add a bit of nuance, and to stress that this is less about religion (which Western audiences might assume), and more about the Chinese government wanting to secure strategic areas and industries from a population they consider potentially "illoyal" due to several different factors (and the video does go on to highlight this very well).

I wonder how many people can live in a camp like this in 8.54? There's not many buildings and so many open areas. 1000? Then you will need at least 1000 camps like this for 1 million people. Does it make any sense?

@@owen551 Left leaning media outlets tend to try and turn a blind eye to China's crimes.
Not because they think it's morally right necessarily, but because it would make pushing their agenda harder.
Can't keep on shouting "big government" when the biggest government in the world is disappearing people into concentration camps, just because of their religious beliefs or segregating immigrants and minorities from the system that only benefits the Han Chinese, constantly violating human rights and freedoms that you would guaranteed in any other country.
And they'll only leave alone the Han Chinese that don't badmouth the government, too.
I can assure you, being 100% Han Chinese is not going to get you anywhere if you dare mention Tiananmen Square.
That will get you at the very least fired and evicted, if not exiled.
If they come to the conclusion that extradition is way too much trouble they WILL send you to a camp, where they most likely will try to break you. If they don't decide that killing you is the fastest way of getting rid of the problem.

@@liluzi_9mm78 There is a fundamental problem in Islam.
According to Islamic law apostasy is identified by a list of actions such as conversion to another religion, denying the existence of God, rejecting the prophets, mocking God or the prophets, idol worship, rejecting the sharia, or permitting behavior that is forbidden by the sharia, such as adultery or the eating of forbidden foods or drinking of alcoholic beverages. The majority of Muslim scholars hold to the traditional view that apostasy is punishable by death or imprisonment until repentance, at least for adult men of sound mind.
Laws prohibiting religious conversion run contrary to Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that "[e]veryone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."
The English historian C. E. Bosworth suggests the traditional view of apostasy hampered the development of Islamic learning, arguing that while the organizational form of the Christian university allowed them to develop and flourish into the modern university, "the Muslim ones remained constricted by the doctrine of waqf alone, with their physical plant often deteriorating hopelessly and their curricula narrowed by the exclusion of the non-traditional religious sciences like philosophy and natural science," out of fear that these could evolve into potential toe-holds for kufr, those people who reject God."
And to remind, the biggest fuss leading Islam to the current xenophobic situation, is because there are no working of progression. Take ISIS, they justify Islamic teaching about enslaving women, destruction of scientific researches and somehow 10% Muslims in the world agree with it.
