  • Edit: This video was taken from the Early Access version of the game two years before release, and it seems that this scene was cut from the full release.
This choice has been hounding me every time I have this conversation, and I just knew I had to choose it even though I was sure it would make me feel guilty. And guess what, it did! I would suggest not doing this again in the future.

This is the angriest he gets in the whole game. Even when killing Cazador he's passionately relishing it, among the storm of emotions. I think it's likely Cazador forced himself on Astarion at some point. Because Cazador is appalling. To be teased about the two of them having sex is the most sickening thing for Astarion, especially now, he's free to express his feelings without being slapped down.

Im gonna go with: they removed this because we can already assume that Cazador has done that to him. Having met the other spawn, it's clear that they resent Cazador but not to Astarion's extent. Astarion says it himself more than once, that he was 'special' to Cazador. I don't doubt it happened as a means to further break and humiliate Astarion, a high elf former Magistrate who was most likely laying down laws that interfered with Cazadors goals.

I think that he was harder to break, and that's why Cazador fixated on him. I truly don't believe that Cazador sexually abused Astarion himself, but rather "pimped" him out to anyone he could lure back for their blood. From dialogue in the mansion, it's pretty clear that he doesn't like getting his hands dirty himself unless he has to.

A magistrate is basically a judge, he wouldn't have had the authority to "lay down law(s)" per se.
Edit: also in his mostly scrapped backstory from early access, as a magistrate he was working WITH Cazador, handing down unnecessarily harsh punishments to Gur people as a cover for trafficking them to Cazador in exchange for money (also why he was killed by a group of Gur). They probably scrapped that because they wanted to avoid implying that Astarion's subsequent abuse from Cazador was deserved.

I also think that if the phrasing was the way I first read it (so the other way around), it wouldn't have been as bad because you're basically acknowledging the fact that Astarion likes to be in charge. That would indicate that you know him that well at least and if the tone were slightly teasing it could be interpreted as the kind of answer one might give because one doesn't know what to say but knows the other person is in a bad place so you're trying to take the edge off the darkness. Making Astarion more charming wasn't the developers trying to make him more appealing to players, it's Astarion trying to make himself more appealing to the player. He spent 200 years charming people for his own survival, and even after escaping Cazador, he's still in survival mode and convinced the only reason people would willingly keep him around is to use his body. Astarion's more aloof attitude we got in the actual game is more consistent with his backstory. And seeing him slowly accept his emotions, including anger, strikes me as a unique story. Besides, seeing a truly angry Astarion in the final game is even more terrifying, because we rarely see it.
Instead of talking Astarion down or helping him ascend, you can just say you won't help him, in his mind abandoning him. He kills the spawn, wishes a horrible death on us, and then permanently leaves the party. That scene and a few others are so much harder to watch knowing how reluctant Astarion is to act on his emotions.

I understand why they removed it. If it’s act 1 then chances are Tav doesn’t know that Astarion used his body to lure victims for Cazador. Let alone that Cazador could’ve abused Astarion in that manner.
So his outrage would be extremely confusing for any player who plays without spoilers.
And thus this scene imho wouldn’t have impact it deserves.
But if I was programming this game I would’ve just moved this dialogue to act 2 or even 3.
