- One of the most memorable, heartfelt and warming scenes between the player and Astarion. It can go either way... But still thank you Larian for letting us hug him for this one brief moment! 🌹

This Line. God this Line IS probably the saddest he says in the entire game. So brutal. I didn't get it while playing cause my answer was a straight "i Care for you" ahah

Yep... the whole conversation in my opinion is just sad and hard, even when we say we care, and he doesn't really believe us... that's still sad...
But that's why I titled the video like that.... it's the hardest for him to say it and probably the deepest most meaningful convo he has with Tav , maybe even more than the act 3 grave scene... cuz without this, the next wont be there.

Same... maybe even a little bit after, because on my first campaign, when I got here I was playing it cheeky and chose the option about the sex... so he slept with Tav and dumped her in the middle of the night...
AND THEN I was like... Oooo ok... and then I fell for him!
And THIS is why he won best performance
Yep... gutting scene... just an amazing actor and deserves a lot more than awards, but GOTY and Best Performance will suffice 😊
I really wish it was possible to do multiple options after you tell him you care about him. I want to hug him but I *also* want to tell him its ok not to sleep together but I *also* want to open my mind with the tadpole so he knows for certain I'm being sincere. Its too hard to pick just one😭

Omg, same! I always have to pick the tadpole one though, because I think that's the one that will give him the most security, that will do the best job of proving to him my character is sincere, which I think he needs most. The others are just words and touch, and while they mean something, they are also things he has too much experience in lying with, so I think picking them will always leave some room for doubt with him, even if by this point he wants to believe. Of course, the tadpole option might suffer from the "too good to be true" problem in his mind, but in the long run seems like the best pick.

@shadowjewel yeah I usually pick the tadpole too since it would be the most difficult to fake. The dubious expression on his face when he says 'really?' like he can't believe someone would genuinely care about him for the first time in 200 years, he needs more than a quick hug!😅

I like it more as well! The fact that he tries to joke around when basically trying to say that he is in love with us... "Simple plan that failed... all I had to do is not to fall for you" ... awww, you sweetheart ... trying to hold it and hide it... just tell us you love us, shall you...
And then if you compare it with the grave scene where he is super confident in the love and what he wants to do... amazing! Just an awesome game!

@@StaceyZilber there are 2 possible ways to continue the romance with Astarion in act 2: you speak with Araj Oblodra first or you kill the orthon for Raphael first

Dont talk to Araj at any point
Have Astarion romanced and at 81+ approval (Exceptional)
Go talk to Raphael in Last light or directly in front of the Gauntlet of Shar
Go and do Astarion's quest inside the Gauntlet to kill the Orthon
Kill the Orthon
Go to sleep
You will get a special Raphael visit to camp
Sleep
Either in that sleep or the next you will get this scene
Good luck

Watching you turn him down was heart breaking... I know I tried the other options but I couldn't choose those... it hurt... I love seeing him so vulnerable. This conversation must have been so hard for him.
It's the hardest conversation for me as well! It probably was the hardest to choose the bad options too... this game is just filled with so much feeling... 😭
Unless you want to do the ritual (and many don't, for whatever reason) then breaking it off is the only logical and realistic thing to do. Without him turning you, there is literally no way for you to have a happy end with him since MC will eventually die and Astarion won't - you will be separated by something either way.
Curing him of vampirism will not work because he's too old of a vampire for it, if you can find sunwalking method you are still locked in the Mayfly-December trope since you are still mortal. And extending your lifespan with different means is not only extremely hard but will also get the Kelemvor clerics after you, since they hunt down anyone that tries to avoid death.
It's best to end things right away than to prolong the suffering as you cling to hope.
@@Deadpan_Snarker I see where you are coming from, but depending on what your Tav is, you can still get a few more years with the vampire. I mean - My MC is a high elf, so they live maybe till 400 yo, which is freaking a lot... I am not sure if Astarion is with my Elf for 400 years if they will still be together. For the drow I know they live till even longer like 600-700 years, so if your Tav is a drow , you get even longer life with Astarion ... I know the "making you immortal so you can be together forever" sounds nice, but forever is such a long time, that I don't think anyone would wanna actually do it...

How to get this conversation? First I killed Yugnir (?), but nothing happened, then i met Araj and got other scene instead
@@rabatacebulowa If you already had the other scene , this one will not trigger. But also you can always reload and do it again. The important thing is the approval rating you have with him
The voice break at "kicked in" kills me.
His voice changes so so much during each line... you can hear every emotion that he wants to relay. Its amazing
I traveled down the road of bravery of trying all of these options as well. I got to see really good content but my conscience knows the option's I picked. I have to remind myself sometimes that no one was actually harmed by these choices. Gods, sometimes you just get a character or a set of characters so well written that it's hard to remember they're just fantasy. I mean Astarion is a Character that will stick with a lot of people and I praise Larian for having the balls to have a character that actually has this sort of trauma. They didn't shy away from it, they didn't just make a one off mention of it. They actually went into it and gave you the ability to see both ends of the line he's straddled for over 200+ years. Be free to no longer be a victim or become something similar to the monster done to him.
It's a line that most people don't talk about that exists for some people with some seriously jacked up tramua. And to people on the outside the edges of that line maybe crystal clear but when you're the one walking it some days the edges are so far apart you can't tell where they end. You can't tell where the darkness or the blinding light begins until you're knee deep in it and have a moment of clarity.
I agree and it is indeed a brilliant writing. I often compare it to a book... like reading about those characters, but you can also choose what to do with their story and guide them in the direction you desire ...

Damn, I don't know if I love him because of how precious he is or to be angry at his hypocrisy of calling the main character out if you say you just slept with him for fun, I mean bro you just admitted you slept with me to manipulate me.
Haha, true... it's actually so true... That's why I like to explore the dialog options and post the whole tree... because we see him for what he is...
Astarion tried to manipulate Tav so he'd have a protector, in the hopes Tav and the others wouldnt turn on him and murder him once they found out he was a vampire. Because Astarion is constantly afraid, of everyone. Don't take my word for it, it's straight from the Dark Urge's butler's lips if the Dark Urge romances Astarion. But the only way Astairon knew to get Tav on his side was through sex, because using his own body, and being used for sex, is all he has known for 200 years. When Tav admits "I only slept with you for fun" Tav admitted they used Astarion for their convenience, not because they saw him as a person to be with.
@@resonatinglo Yes, and what Astarion is in Act 1 is desperate and afraid, because as a vampire spawn he's an "unperson" anyone of those strangers he met at that beach could and probably would murder without a twinge of guilty feeling if they found out. As he tells us the concept of asking someone for help when he needs it and actually been given help is totally alien to him because it's never happen to him. But the only way he knows how to interact with people is through sex. He couldn't talk to his "marks" and tell them the truth. (Well, he tried once shortly after he became a spawn, he let a young man go and tried to flee the city himself, but that resulted in Cazador finding him and brutally punishing him, the "Year of Horror"). He had to lie to them to lure them back to please Cazador. He had to lie and fawn to Cazador, or be tortured.
And the other vampire spawn were not his friends, either... they would have sold him out to Cazador instantly if he told them a secret, just so he would get tortured instead of them.
Oh my! When you told him how dare you! Crushed!

I was giving your Tav so many death looks that she is probably dead right now.....LOL! This will NEVER happen in my playthrough, but thank you for showing people what happens if they do not treat him well. ♥♥♥ ........... I think I broke my monitor with all the death looks.................LMFAO
🖤 Don't worry. I give my Tav death looks sometimes as well! I just want to show it all, raw, they way the wrote it, cuz the writing is brilliant... yes we can all just post nice kissing scenes and love, but what makes the love much greater is the hard heavy gutting moments, that , when you are at that scene the next time, you will know how much more that hug or that "I care about you" mean , when you have seen the other side as well!

I recently accidentally triggered the scene you wrote a disclaimer for... my god was that hard to watch! And the way he reacts to you the day after! I didn't check (because I wanted to back away from that cursed timeline as soon as possible) but I'm sure his approval drastically diminishes after that scene, it wouldn't surprise me if he's back to neutral afterwards. So I reloaded my latest save before that and set things right again. It was absolutely horrible, one of the most horrible things you can do to Astarion in game, I'd say (among a few options for ruining his life like giving him to the Gur, not helping him with Cazador, forcing the astral tadpole on him after he tells you he doesn't want to change into anything else anymore, etc, etc). Bless him!😭❤
Thank you! Honestly I have no idea what happens the next day after he leaves that room... I imagine he leaves the party, but if not, they usually go below neutral if you break up with them, or in this case he breaks up with Tav, but it's still on a bad note.

@@resonatinglo you know what also caught my attention in that scene? Tav is naked but Astarion isn't? I thought it strange so I checked my settings and I indeed have nudity and sex scenes on because we're adults in this house and BG3 is an adult game ffs lol. So well, that makes me think that he wore his small clothes as soon as he was done performing the deed as Tav expected... and perhaps that's precisely how he used to perform with his targets as well? Maybe as soon as he was done, he'd wash himself and put his clothes back on, perhaps in an effort to safeguard the bit left of dignity he still was holding onto?😢😩 Honestly is such a horrible thing to do to him, right after he lowers his shields with you, tells you he's fallen for you, you go ahead and use him like he was used by and for his abuser for 2 centuries... I also never want to see that again🥺😖

@@resonatinglo Absolutely! It's just a shame that Tav has to use him like this for him to learn to say no, but at least he does and hopefully that's the last time this kind of shit happens to him. He does put his foot down and breaks up with you, so good on him for that. But yeah...
I like to think some Tav’s knew he wasn’t really into us at first but he’s hot and a funny guy to hang with, we could die tomorrow so may as well have fun. We catch our feelings and then get told he has too. I wish we could tell him we kinda suspected him but we’re very happy he’s being real now, he wasn’t playing us as well as he thought he did. He’d feel less guilty and god the catching feelings trope is gold.

My first DU (me roleplaying her) had the idea that she will play with him too and kinda use him... and then this scene happened... and then she forced him to sleep with her one last time and he dumped her in the middle of the night..

I know... it was hard for me as well... Maybe that's why I think that this is the hardest conversation of all... for him... but also for us...
But for all who can't and just to get to know him better , I do it... of course I start with the worst and finish with the good at leave it in the romance. But it is hard... all those videos are hard for me as well. I love him as well, as we all do more or less 🌹🍷🔥

Im curious what your approval was to get this. On my first run, I didnt get a type of this conversation until the one aftee talking to the drow in moonrise. I'd like to see if I can get this scene to proc before i speak with Araj.
100 max. I max him out around the Grymforge at this point knowing everything he likes

I think when I finished my first run he was in the 60s lowest of all my companions (until I broke Shadowhearts heart by wanting to be with Star, I'm pretty sure her approval dropped) but I interpreted it as a team effort thing and like he's not just doing things cuz I say so. Haha late game if you disapproved if something, I'd say, Out loud, on stream, "Babe, I'm going to do this and you'll be fine" or "we don't agree on everything and that's ok" hahaha
@resonatinglo I haven't put much effort into farming for the points, except for ones I know from my previous run that are approvals so I make sure he's there for them. I just got him to a round 50. I'm in act two. But went back to act one area to finish some little quests that I didn't bother with on my first run. Like Benryn's finances dowry. And I sold the ring before reading the quest that in supposed to bring it back to him. And I'm pretty sure I sold it to the zhent merchant guy so I may have to go and check if they've left and blown up their base yet and buy it back. Haha And during the hide and seek with Oliver, I was walking wyll around so I could use his charisma, and also his warlock/arcana knowledge came in handy. We did the second round of hide and seek where Oliver's "parents" are looking too and my Tav go caught somehow even though I fully avoided the areas of vision. And Oliver just ran by to the other side of the house as him and the shadows Tav were in initiative. But I had wyll continue to sneak up and find him. And I got a Star approval for that that I wasn't expecting. And then the battle music kept playing for a while. Was funny. But my first run I didn't and just fought them. So this was knew and fun.

Who is Araj? I see people keep talking about that but i got this scene and i never ran into Araj. Im still in Act 2 just finished the moonrise stuff. After the shadowheart gauntlet of shar situation i felt this timed urgency to go to moonrise. I felt if i didnt hurry then something timed will mess it up. But it may have caused me to miss a couple things
She's in moonrise, she's a drow blood merchant in the room to the right of the kitchen. You've probably missed her if you finished moonrise
Merchant to the left of the main throne room hall. She unlocks a special dialog with Astarion that's why people mention her 😉
@resonatinglo oh i see yes i mustve missed her. I went to the shadow lands through the underdark. And i didnt attack moonrise until after gauntlet of shar. She wasnt there by the time i got to moonrise because it was an attack? Idk she may have died not sure. If you missed her in act 2 do you get to see her in act 3 or?

How do you get this dialogue? I had something similar but the beginning part where he admitted he just slept with you to use you I didn’t get???
Romance him and get above 80+ approval. In act 2 do his quest killing the Orthon and long rest and you get it. Alternatively you can get very similar dialog if you romance him and have 60+ approval and go and talk to Araj in Moonrise tower. Defend him and when you long rest, you get this dialog with some alterations

So how does the scene after Araj go on if you already had that one? What does he say then, just thanks without confession?
No, if you had this one and then go to Araj and tell her "No, he is his own person" nothing happens during the night. Astarion has already confessed to you that he cares about you and that the romance will continue (if you have chosen that in the confession scene) , so after Araj, just nothing more happens. I'm sorry 🤷♀🖤🌈😅
@@resonatinglo hmm, I do wonder how he reacts then, if you end the relationship with him that night, but at Araj location you still defend him. Would he thank Tav still?
@@antagonistlover wow, that's a good one. I do believe tho, that the game is made, once you cut the romance, there's no going back. So I don't think you will get anything from Araj's scene and after if you have cut the romance before, no matter if it's cut at the confession or 2 weeks before. It's just that scene with the drow and nothing after.
@@resonatinglo hmm, maybe... but you can literally go back with AA even after breaking up with him after ascension, so everything is possible.
Whats the condition to trigger this scene type? I`ve heard it runs night after arriving to moonrise (without talking to Araj ofc) but its not working for me. Have about 80 approval rate + romance.
No no, it's not Moonrise. It's Astarion's quest With Raphael. If you finish that and kill the orthon in the gauntlet, it triggers when you know what the scars mean. That's the only trigger and of course probably 70-80+ approval

@@selvariablackmoore3420 Before patch 3 it would trigger at Moonrise without doing Raphael's quest as long as you had high enough approval and hadn't spoken to Araj, so that's probably why you'll see that written everywhere! Now you have to finish Raphael's quest with the orthon, rest so that he will tell you about the scars, then rest AGAIN (and I've seen some people say that you have to have at least visited Moonrise for it to trigger, though I'm not 100% sure on that). You need to do all this before ever bringing Astarion to Araj, because the "I want to thank you" version of the confession will override this one. Also, I assume you still need to have excellent approval (80+) with him, but I haven't tried otherwise, so can't be certain. Good luck!!

@@juliabe408 A drow in moonrise towers, who wants Astarion to bite her. Problem is, Astarion really doesn't *want* to bite her. If you stand up for him and tell her that no means no, he'll confess his love to you after that point.

Maybe a little expressions... but you can't say no expressions. It is clear what her expression on her face is... I've played this scene a thousand times, Tav has expressions, just not the right one that we will expect. 😅 Also they have to fit Tav's expression is a few dialog options, so I can see why they did it
Ok, nr 1: how to get this scene? I killed Yugnir and nothing happened, got simillar one with Araj
Nr 2: my bf is in act 1 ending, he didnt romanced astarion, astarion dont like his blood (playing as gale). Is there any way to get this scene to choose "lets be friends"? Or you must romance him and have sex in act1 to get it?
First, you must romance him to get the scene. This scene always happens in act 2. As far as I know the trigger is to finish Astarion's quest here, meaning, YES to talk to Raphael, then go and kill Yurgir and then speak to Rapfael again. Then if you long rest, it should trigger. Usually if a scene does not trigger on first long rest, just make another immediately after. The only other thing I know that you need to have for sure is very high approval, I'd say 90+, to trigger it. Otherwise it wont.
@@resonatinglo Damn, Thank you. I probably didnt long sleep enough. Also i blocked game, because i fogot to say to wyll "its over" so around 10 nights nothing happened till i didnt talked to him (Just forgot, he was trying to seduce me and dance)

But you ARE his friend if you don't romance him and if you get his approval. He respects you and loves you as a friend a lot. But with the romance is just on another level... you unravel so much more of his personality

Romanced at 100 approval, do not speak with Araj in Moon rise, go to the Gauntlet in act 2, get Raphael's quest, kill Yrgir, get out of the Gauntlet, long rest and voila... if it doesn't happen on this long rest do one more immediately.
Do not go to the Nightsong, do not speak with Araj the blood potion merchant in Moonrise. Good luck! 😊🌹
