- This happens if you convince him not to ascend and help him find himself. You need to do 1-2 longrests to get this scene BUT this is the most amazing, wholesome, meaningful scene ever in the game (if you like Astarion that is)... Yours truly!
Also I have to say that the actors in this game are amazing!
Thank you for watching this and come by to my stream on Twitch sometimes (Every Tuesday 21:00 CEST)!

I just wish we could hug Astarion a few more times.
It would be amazing if we could...🖤
I'm so damn impressed how Larian used the vampire motif to tell a story of generational trauma and how cruelty creates monsters. Astarion's storyline is a prime example of a person with PTSD and a vampire coven can be seen as a "toxic family" trope (or maybe, in our real world, he could be a victim of human trafficking subjected to all sorts of abuse).
In general, BG3 is a game about choices and their consequences not only for ourselves but also how they affect others. In every our companion there is a potential of good and evil. Someone down below maniacally argued that Astarion is pure evil. Well, this person is wrong. There is no "pure evil" or "pure good" in this game. For example Shadowheart or nice goofy Gale. Shadowheart (as a Shar's worshiper) does not have compassion for Selunites: she is ready to kill a Nightsong knowing that this is the last hope for lifting the curse in Shadwoland just to fulfill her own ambition to become a Dark Judicier. And Gale? He became way more sinister down the road obsessed with the idea of stealing Elder Brain's crown to become the god himself. And the Druids from the Grove? Anybody noticed how prejudiced they are - they are ready to sacrifice dozens of refugees in the name of their own piece. Also, some of them are literal terrorists (Shadow Druids). Even Ketheric Thorm has more than just one side. We, as the main protagonist, can help other characters break to freedom from whatever concept or situation they are trapped in. The more they trust us, the bigger impact our actions and words will have on their lifepaths.
As far as Astarion's story. I think, that it's one of the best-written storylines in this game. When we finally go through the "sassy phase" we can observe his inner battle between his instinct of self-preservation (which is one of the symptoms of PTSD - to protect yourself at all cost) and his need to become a subject, not an object (that includes bonding and showing vulnerability). In a cut scene with a mirror, if you ask him "What do you want to know" he will respond" I want to know what the world sees when it looks at me. What do you see". He is afraid of being seen as a monster and rejected. That's why he sympathizes with other creatures that the world labels as monsters. Another meaningful dialog is when he considers hijacking Cazador's ritual. If you tell him that power corrupts and the duty of the strong is to protect the weak, he will get angry and tell you that for 200 years he has been a victim of a corrupt man and no hero came to save him, mind flayers did. This will explain his attitude towards heroes and heroism for the sake of heroism itself. Mind that he won't disapprove of all righteous acts (for example he will support your decisions to stay loyal to some NPCs) but he won't be impressed by mindless acts of heroism. It's nice to see how his demeanor changes in Act 2 and Act 3. He starts showing compassion and regret, especially toward his former victims, especially in Act 3. And the final scene, when he finally takes his revenge and chooses a "good path"? Oh boy, him weeping after killing Cazador reminds me so much of this scene with Ellie in "The Last of US" series when she killed her abuser. Both emotionally impactful, both cathartic.
It's interesting that you compare it with "The Last of Us" and Ellie. I can see why. I also agree that there are no pure good and evil characters. I argued in one of my other videos when Astarion leaves because he feels used by Tav and people are calling me evil... even we as players are not actually evil... it's like saying that the narrator is evil or the actors who play them so well are evil... Now it's just our turn to experience the two sides of the coin... or the many sides of the web of beautiful writing I guess.
Thank you for this comment! I hope more people read it! 🖤
@@resonatinglo People have a tendency to oversimplify while life isn't simple at all and things are complex. In short terms, oversimplification is easier but in a long time it can only harm. I'm glad that we have more and more games that show us that things not always are what they seem at first glance.
@@resonatinglo Btw, I did find a video showing what will happen if you leave Astarion alone in the chamber after defeating Cazador. He will not perform the ritual, even though there is nothing standing on his way to do this... Instead, he will choose the good ending and free the spawns as well :)
@@atomictsarina4378he also doesn't have a view of the infernal. But that's another story
3 months late, but I'd like to add that Astarion's also a deconstruction of the seductive vampire archetype. Heck, he's even aware of his archetype since he brings it up a couple times like if you brought up him after your first night together that he seemed far away during the act- to which he lied that he was "holding it back", like the classic vampire reigning in his rough urges. Being kinda witty and charming are natural parts of his personality, but part of his struggle is separating the segments that made those traits forced for a couple centuries. He's been flirty for a large chunk of the game because that was his learned routine. After the resolution though, he acts more openly and genuinely- still has his charm and sass, but not forced anymore and his flirtations are directed to someone he actually has real affection for. That makes him not only deconstruction of The Casanova, but a decon-recon switch of The Ladykiller In Love trope too.
"Hot.."
"You couldn't wait 10 seconds before being an absolute freak?"
Oh, Astarion. Never change. 😂
I laughed so hard when he said that... Amazing 🖤🖤
I never got that option lmfaoo
Who would willingly change perfection?
He knows us to well.
I find there are mainly two kinds of girls playing this game. The ones that like gale and the ones that think they can fix astarion, the ones that never learn...
Astarion surpassed Mary Shelly levels of goth! She may have lot her virginity on her mother's grave, but he boned on his own!
Indeed
5 months late to this comment, but I snorted hot chocolate up my nose. 😂
I love that they used his theme here, too. It's so good!
Yes! And changed his clothes too. He always looks like that in this scene, no matter his ingame look 🖤
I wish we could read the grave. Astarion's addition doesn’t hit as hard as it should without it, I think.
Honestly the morning after that scene I went to the graveyard and clicked on EVERY SINGLE GRAVE looking for his... but nop...
@@resonatinglo Yeah, same.
psst
someone translated.
He was 39.
@BreeCorp Is that all is says? No last name, epitaph, anything?
@@danasonofbear yeee... the urge to know more about him is huge 🖤
top notch character creation btw
Top, yes! And the network of dialogs in amazing! 🖤☺️
This is why I will always love Spawn Astarion waaaay more than Ascended
I love that scene as well. Recently posted it with a free cam and some edits. It should be in my channel 🥰
This is definitely the best ending.
Yes , I agree. Some nice videos with this scene coming up soon
Imagine if they had an option to record your own tav lines in your individual game and watch the cut scenes back with you playing tav
It would be awesome! But I imagine it would be maybe one more year of work just to record every single line... in 6 different voices
The only thing I don’t get is why non-Ascending Astarion doesn’t just drink Cazador’s blood before/during/after killing him?!
i.e. do the one thing that would allow Astarion to become a regular vampire, without needing to sacrifice a thousand other vampire spawns in an Infernal ritual in order to achieve it. And his soul.
Given all of the talks about how vampires and vampire spawns work during the game, it feels like taking the step to become a regular vampire (at the same time as freeing yourself from Cazador forever) should be an option. And still have him be “good” in doing so.
Honestly, you have a good point and I don't know why they haven't added him at least trying to drink Cazador's blood, or even mentioning it...
My explanation would be that he hates him so much that he is disgusted and doesn't wanna do anything but kill him brutally 😁😁 or Just Ascend to be a "normal" vampire and not fear the sun etc.
@@resonatinglo Well, not sure how it goes exactly in D&D lore, but drinking the blood of the dead being will kill a vampire (that's how Claudia tricked Lestat in "Interview with the Vampire").
@@atomictsarina4378 Makes sense. When you play with him you can not "bite" on Undead mobs. But also Cazador was alive before he stabbed him a few times. We have a conversation with him. He is tired and recovering , but not dead for sure :D
But I can see why they didn't do it as well. It ruins the whole story as is 😁
@@resonatingloI have this theory that when Tav is asking Astarion to stop the ritual she/he means all package (so becoming a full vampire as well). It makes even more sense when you are able to find a skull of old Cazador's master and see his memories - that Cazador was like Astarion once and he became a real monster only later. That's why Tav knows that becoming a full vampire will take from Astarion what's left of his humanity.
@@atomictsarina4378 True, true. I guess :D But I wanted to help him so much... But I also like the kind not ascended version...
Why Larian... why...
did... did you steal shadowhearts camp outfit?
Yes, from the first moment I saw her... I am wearing it. This is my Dark Urge playthrough and she has to look agile and sleek!
@@resonatinglo SPOILERS: In the lower city near the statue of Balduran there is an outfit store. I spent an hour and ungodly amounts of goldthere. Just saying...
@@Tumasch YESSS! know it. And in The House of Hope also there are very nice outfits 😁🖤
I did that on my male githyanki character
of course. why would anyone even go there if not for the FABULOUS clothes.@@resonatinglo
1:35 A NEW DIALOGUE?
Yeah lol I didn’t have that option, I only had the other three
Oh wait it might be a dark urge only option
Might be only D Urge yes. Will test it when I can 😇
i swear those kind of moments always make me smile, be it with karlach, shadowheart, (fak u wylll i cucked you anyway), astarion. the game feels so damn alive.
And makes your stomach turn and twist...
I have a playthrough with Karlach coming in, so I will see her reactions too soon and will post them 😊
At the end I half expected there to be a squirrel in the tree 😂 (like in Halsins scene)
Haha... I can see it...
But they wont be completely alone then... I think the squirrel was there because Halsin is connected to the nature and somehow speaking to them even unintentionally , subconsciously ... Astarion wants to be alone.. in the shadows... in the night...
I'm gonna have this scene soon and im excited even i know whats gonna happen. Im at Cazador's door now, wait for me you prick xD
Good luck! It's a very nice and deep scene! 🖤
Is it too much to ask something similar with Minthara! When will this injustice end, where is muah patch ?!
Minthara is with us in the party... After all I am a Dark Urge... and also as a Drow we have different conversations with her for the Underdark etc...
Will be cool to have nice proper romance with her... not only the one night stand she gave us in the beginning 🖤
The first few opening seconds of dialogie - My game seems bugged. He looks crosseyed and doesnt speak.for a few seconds. Either that... or someone's mods are playing tricks on me. 😂
I had mine bugged when he was speaking to me for the Ascention. Happens sometimes. It's a huge game... strings get tied sometimes 😊
Question: is there a drow option to be like “we’ll be in the shadows together” or something?
Aww... that would have been so good as an option to be together...
I will research and let you know... even make a video if there is such a possibility !
@@resonatinglo yeah it hit me when I was walking through a village and a goblin thought I was a true soul cuz o was a drow in the sun… we’ll be confined to shadow together, my love…
Gotta love it when there are spoilers in the title.
I tried not doing spoilers for many vids, but at some point when everybody is doing it and there are people with 500+ hours of game time... its like giving you spoilers about Mass Effect or Divinity Original sin...
I'm sorry if you are not there yet, but many people have already passed it many times and you cant blame me ☺️
Just play the game and have fun! 🖤
@@resonatinglo you could have titled it something like "astarion romance - good ending"
your excuses are weak. it's not like giving spoilers about Mass Effect or Divinity Original Sin, for fucks sake the game only came out on PS5 4 days ago! (sept 6)
Even if you ignore that the game JUST came out for console, the PC version has barely been out for a month. A game that is taking many over 200 hours to complete. People have lives.
Why do you think it's alright to ruin others experience of the game just because you and a select few others had access to the game and free time?
Wtf do you want every single video title should start with spoiler warning? Maybe if you dont want bg3 spoilers when you see the index pics and read Astarion scroll away?
@@DeadAugur ,,your excuses are weak,, what about not reading the full title after you see its about bg3 and Astarion and scroll away?
@@notgojo491 I've beaten the game twice. Just defending those who haven't had the opportunity to yet.
This was after killing cazador? And you did or not ascended him?
Correct! I finished the game with him loving my Tav and not being Ascended... and then I rolled back to this point and Ascended him and finished the game with an Ascended Archvampire (the most powerful being in the realm if you ask him) and it was great both ways. 😁😊🔥🖤
@@resonatinglo thanks 👌
We have twin drows 😂
OMG, That was my first ever elf drow that I did and I love her!
I kid you not, like a few minutes ago I just started a new campaign and made exactly the same drow, just because I miss her and wanted to do another DU campaign and I thought I should check any comments before I start playing for the day and I see your comment. It's faith! And a nice fun coincidence... now they are triplet 😁👌
I think it’s kind of lame that you only get the “I love you” if you agree to sleep with him again :( I feel like that should be said regardless
You can opt out any of the options and still be in the romance... he is so sweet in his answers no matter what you say. But yes, I guess for the I love you, you gotta work a bit harder 😅
he's lying.
Maybe
@@resonatinglo ascend him, let him turn you and read his thoughts.
Or be sane and stay mortal and dont be the enslaved plaything of a power hungry monster.
He loses himself when he ascends. He's not the same person who loves/loved you at that point.
@@LittleSlimeGoblin even before he ascends when he is trying to convince you to help him do it he is super evil and tyrannical, talking about his plans to dominate baldur's gate himself.
What race is your character??
