  • The provincial life in Russia, I would say, is everywhere outside of Moscow. Maybe, Saint-Petersburgh.
    It’s hard for me, a person who grew up in Moscow, despite being raised in a poor family (in terms of Moscow), to understand all the challenges people can face, living somewhere in a small city in Russia.
    Like Engels. A city with about 200 thousand people of population.
    BUT. My wife was born here, and lived here before turning 18, so, I hope we both did manage to let you feel the lifestyle of Engels, by providing the exact footage and information in the video.
    I hope, that this video let’s you know my country better, by seeing the regular life of regular people.

    I would imagine you have an idea of how little people from the United States have seen of Russia. It really is a pleasure to see the Volga and the childhood community of your wife.

    Excellent video! I liked how you told the origin of the towns name (Engels), how you showed the Yuri Gagarin landmarks, and how you interviewed residents of the city. Also found interesting in how you explained what the above ground pipes were for.

    I am happy that there are improvements being made. Of course, how rapid they come will be determined by how much profit Russia can make from the pipeline. Back when I was growing up we only saw empty counters and lines of Russian's waiting for small portions of bread. So satisfying to see the markets have plenty to sell! This was a pleasurable adventure and very informative.

    LOVED this video! It is amazing the cosmonaut/astronauts courage in those days, everything was new, not garaunteed your safety at all, it would take guts to eject from a capsule (I know a LOT of heat is generated when tentering Earth's atmosphere and you can easily burn up) and then have to parachute!
    I appreciate your honest assessment of the playgrounds for the kids and the interviews from the locals on their thoughts! (I am sure there are many videos say like where I am right now in southern California that would show the glamorous lifestyle of Hollywood, but few about the areas that can be dangerous to live in and how those children live in those neighberhood here)
    The Volga river is mighty! Looks like a mini ocean! I loved the shops and wonder myself if it is cheaper to buy in local market or the big stores there? I wonder too if the local farmers market may have more fresh food? I also think I am understanding the pipe situation more, if there is a issue during winter it must be harder with the ground frozen if it was underground

    In my opinion this one had a good mix of personal stories and experiences along with the city's historical origins. So far I think this is one of your best videos yet. My suggestion for next time is add some B-Roll with music between scenes and that will give it even more of a polished documentary feel. It is also a good way to show some more of the city.

    • @Zangieff
      @Zangieff  Před 2 lety +6

      Thank you for appreciation, I love the way you said it, because indeed this video was one of the hardest for me to make, comparing to some reaction videos or some simple vlogs. So, yes, thanks:) I was thinking about adding the music, probably next time, yes, but I always have a feeling I’ll choose something not good or not much applicable. The music genre, mood. So I try to make a video look and sound consistent only by editing the original videos. But I agree with you

      @@Zangieff Looking at this again, I think the title could be reworked to help with visibility for the algorithm. I don't like this trend, but for better or worse click baitish type titles get more traffic. It also seems like hot words like "Russia" or "Soviet" get more traction too. I do think there is a way to get creative with titles that play into the algorithm but at the same time are not totally cringe. Maybe something like:
      "World's First Astronaut Landed in this Soviet Provencal City | Engels - Russia in 4K"
      I personally think something like that is still honest and keeps your integrity but is a bit more flashy for clicks.

    • @Zangieff
      @Zangieff  Před 2 lety +3

      @@RockyPondProductions I think that I should much change the name now because it perfectly shows what the video is about. I'm not in fond of clickbaiting names that represent 10% of the video and you just have to watch 90% of extra sonething, that you were not thinking about when clicking on the video. Though, using this "astronaut" context can be interesting, that's why I already put the reference in the thumbnail. My idea is to maybe change a thumbnail, make it more attractive. From simply adding this "first ever astronaut" reference to the current image, or make a different one. Which would both have "Engels" as text and some other catchy detail, that I wouldn't use in the name, but could play with it at the thumbnail level. Question to you, if you are ok to rewatch the video a bit, maybe some of the moments from the video can be used as a background for the thumbnail? Maybe some pauses with me as a part of the image, so that to show that the video is a vlog type. Because now it looks like ... you never know what. It could easily be just a documentary with no host present in the video, but all the information provided through the voice over storytelling.

    • @Zangieff
      @Zangieff  Před 2 lety +4

      And so I just changed the thumbnail, what I did: (1) background picture is the same, but a bit brighter (2) changed font to a bit bolder one (3) made a more evident shadow, black font behind the white font (4) changed the text from "I landed here" to "first ever astronaut landed here" (5) added yellow font to outline the "ever" word and to make the picture overall more attractive

The green spaces between the apartment buildings are very nice (much more beautiful setting than the very modern district in Moscow you share in another video). What you say about the children is very true and touching. Capitalism makes it impossible for the children to have a proper childhood if the parents are not making enough money. The USSR put a lot of emphasis on chidrens' well-being. Thank you for the beautiful video, greetings from Turkey.

    Really like your Videos, Hope to visit Russian someday. I tried in 80's but Soviets would denies days before we were suppose to go, so I never go to go to Soviet Union back then. Maybe Russia 2025!!

    In almost every video I've seen of Russia I only see apartment complexes everywhere. Is their not a lot of single family, private home ownership in Russia?
    I grew up in small towns of less than 3,000 people. 200k people is a large city in my area.

      Yes, most of the population in cities/towns live in apartments. Those who don’t are either quite wealthy and can afford a big new family home, or live in an old homes in the part of the town that wasn’t rebuilt with apartment blocks yet.

    Depending on age perhaps, if born in the countryside there is then a preference to go back to a peaceful place when closer to the end of life. I spent perhaps two decades working and liviing in and around London and you could never pay me enough to live in a place like that. Between Moscow and Maly Tyrish I'd definitely prefer the latter.
