Ukraine's Frustratingly Long City: Kryvyi Rih 🇺🇦

  • 🇺🇦 Doing the simplest of tasks like popping to the shop for a loaf of bread is no simple thing in Kryvyi Rih. That's because it's seemingly the longest city in the bloody world and going anywhere takes a bloody eternity and ends in sweaty frustration. However I was on a mission to seek out its Soviet past so I stopped complaining and set off on an adventure in search of an old dude with a Lada. Join me as we go back in time to good old Kryvyi Rig, Ukraine's most frustrating city.

It's full of industrial stuff, and as my folks say, it was the most popular place to find job back in Soviet Union. Now, it's not only foreigners, but also people from another cities of Ukraine rare here. Seeing this man's video, which I found by accident in my recommendation, makes me feel happy. No transitions, filters, drones, but still he founds beautiful in such a place. As someone who had almost no knowledge about Ukraine's history, this really impacted me. Fast forward to a couple months ago and I was listening to an episode of Jocko podcast where he covered a book about the Holodomor. I was truly speechless, the depth of suffering endured by the Ukrainian people is impossible to fathom. Not just in the period of the Holodomor but for nearly its entire existence and how they continue to suffer in some capacity even to this day its incredible to me how they still persist and continue to live on. First of all I have enjoyed watching for the last 2 years. I have been coming to Krivoy Rog (kryvyi Rih) since 2005 so I am delighted to see a video here. When I first came Lenin stood proudly outside a theatre and what is now a modern hotel was then very, very Soviet. It is a confusing but interesting city. Parts of it outside the centre are like large villages and you can walk by the river like its the countryside. Its unfortunate about the pollution that makes the air bad particularly at night. Its super to see your video that presents it just as it is. I would love to find a copy of the 1983 book. 👍

Wow, I've never thought that somebody from such countries as the UK and the USA would be interested in showing my city or watching a video about it. And by the way, yes Kryvyi Rih is a long city, but as a citizen you just try to find the shorter route from one place to another, very often you don't need to be in the road for 1 or 2 hours, so it takes about 25-45 minutes to get to your destination.
