  • Nearly 500,000 cranes migrate each spring through Nebraska and spend about 30 days along approximately 70 miles of the Platte River. At dusk, the cranes gather on sandbars in the Platte to roost for the night. This video footage was taken from a blind at the Rowe Sanctuary near Gibbon, Neb. -- the Rowe Sanctuary also feature a Crane Cam on their Web site at www.rowesanctua.... I experienced the thrill of their migration yesterday, 11/24/13 on a walk in NE Georgia. The sound of the crane is like no other; eerily audible from very far away. They travel in formations & swarms and circle to gather in the sky. The comment about smoke is so true; as the sun hits their bodies they disappear entirely then turn white then black. In our area they travel along interstate 75 & 575 on their long journey south. Truly a remarkable visitation.

Absolutely AWESOME!!! Thank you for freezing there and getting this footage! :>)
We had some flocks migrating NW over our house in Chicago over the last few days and I thought I was looking at what I always thought were Canada geese. However, the photo I took with my new Panasonic FZ200 made me wonder about the 'shape' of the birds and after some research, I wound up w/ your video and concluded that the 'geese' I had been admiring are actually CRANES! Wow!!! :>)
