I just love these birds. I live in Clermont Fl and there is a family of cranes that pass through my backyard several times a week.
Me too. I feed them whole wheat rolled bread. Mine let me pet them.

They’re all over my neighborhood here in Florida, and they never cease to mesmerize me. I love them and they look MUCH SMALLER than they really are, as I’m 6’/2 meters, but many are much taller than I am which caught me “off guard,” one afternoon when I was taking a walk through my neighborhood.
Just saw mom and dad with two babies. So cute!! I got some good pictures.

I got trapped in an arby's by a sandhill crane once. He was posing at his own reflection in the glass door. An employee had to go out and give him some French fries. Apparently they had named him Franklin

There is a family of sandhill cranes that reside in my local park in Florida. They will walk alongside me even with their baby. They'll chase away other birds and return to my side to continue walking. I hope they enjoy my company as much as I enjoy theirs
I live in Leesburg Florida and I always get the same pair of cranes that visit once a year for several weeks. There was one straggler which had his left leg missing below the knee. He didn't come back this year. We figure he got it lopped off by an alligator. He also looked sort of old. The other 2 did come back and look very healthy.
I rescued a sandhill crane from a foot injury. It almost died but thank goodness they were saved by animal vets

We have the same couple that's been coming almost every day most year round. They dissappear occasionally to go have a baby. But they come back ❤ it's so awesome. We put scoops of wild bird seed and they love it.

Majority of Sand hill cranes in Florida stay in Florida year around. Also, it has been said they cover in mud to hide sent and confused predators, even though they have no natural predator.
One very interesting fact you probably didn’t know: fossils of sand hill cranes have been found next to dinosaur fossils and after analyzing it was concluded that both lived at the same time. Making the sandhill cranes one of the oldest surviving creatures on earth 🤯
Wonderful. I live in Manitoba 🇨🇦. No Sandhills Cranes, nor Hummingbirds nor wrens who ALWAYS NEST here on my farm. I miss them. Are the Cranes being wiped out somewhere along their Flight path? So sad not to hear them fly over. Circling as they fly. July 9 th 2023 here.
Sandhill bird or my favorite they just VERY cute beautiful color bird the woodpecker the rooster shoebill my favorite animal that the zoo park in Houston Texas I have see so much bird love them all the same way the caretaker dose GREAT job what them so God BLESS the work at the place because so many bird have die form the summer het some of these bird are looking for save place to have a nest for three baby to feed them they keep way form swamps snake
I seen 1 in Pitt Meadows British Columbia for the first time today . Lots of blue Herion here but this thing was like a flying dinosaur calling the whole way

in the spring and early summer a beauitful pair comes to stay in the swampy basin behind my house. last year they had 1 chick that was attacked by aggressive, red-winged black birds. it was killed and i’m assuming the mother cried for days and days. i’ve just seen them again for the first time this week and i’m really hoping they have another chick this year!
We live in Houghton Lake Mi and every year we have a couple that stay at our airport. This year they had 2 babies. They are good guests while they are there. They stay out of way when airplanes are out though they stay away from everyone, they are not afraid of me as I cut the runway. I hope they always keep coming back! 👍🙋♂️🖖🏻
Live in Palm City, FL. I have a pair nesting virtually in my backyard. The egg is about 2 weeks and I'm looking forward to seeing the chick. The male comes to my patio so I feed him bird food. He eats it right out of the can I store it in when I place it on the ground near him.

I have one that hasn’t left my back yard most of summer. Problem I live in Michigan and winter is coming. She’s by herself and has been by herself most of the year.
I have 2 cranes That I've been taking care of In Citrus County Florida, The male the bottom of his beak somehow broke off? Possibly a pig trap? They use corn as a bait.. But he was starving to death couldn't eat, because he couldn't grasp any food.. no bottom beak, I built a feeder out of a 2 and a 1/2 gallon jug Put crack corn and parina high protein Turkey Chow, he and she are thriving... My question is what is the purring noise they make, when I get close? Is it a warning?

how wonderful to take care of these regal birds .... My Sandhill purrs too and I take it just as a purr because he does it when I talk sweet to him. They respond to sweet talk :)

@@hempress4217 They call these birds in Texas, ribeye of the sky, Studying These birds, they truly look out for one another, I couldn't imagine shooting 1, and the other 1 flying off That would be pretty sad for that bird 😪.I Use to hunt all the time, Pigs Dear Turkey Duck, For some hunters a light goes off in their head, And they change directions, Humanity is reaching 10 billion I don't think there's any other animals with those kinds of numbers? The only predators we have are Fellow humans, I'm Through with hunting, Except for alligator Season, And I'm trying to stop that.
Back home they were five feet tall I used to be able to call them
Ocklawaha, FL here. We have a couple that nest every year amongst the tall grass, in the lake, of our back yard. April 2nd they were little chicks. Now, 22 days later, they are about 1 foot tall, mostly legs. They come to my house often, apparently, asking for food. The parents, almost always stay between them and I, while I take photos. What should I give them, if anything?
I think this answers my question... What is the fine for feeding sandhill cranes in Florida? Most citizens do not know it is illegal to feed the cranes, as well as raccoons, alligators and foxes, under Florida Administrative Code 68A-4.001. It is a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.
I feed my Sandhills (2) Bread naan they love it ... they had 2 chicks this April and the family comes to visit me every day in SIlver Springs Florida.... Dad hangs out with me on my patio during the day all day - I absolutely love them!
One of the adults kept approaching me, looking for food. I had my hands clasped in front of me. It moved in with such intensity in his eyes, right before he bit my pinky. Lol. My pinky must of looked like a tasty grub, peaking out from underneath my other hand. It was so 😎.
@@brianjenkins4473 yes your finger looks like any appendage of food in your hand until they figure out the tasty stuff is what gives away,, lol. They do learn quickly though, I figured out!
We have sandhill cranes here but I don’t think they go anywhere. They been near my home for 6 yrs now always being their
Rib Eye of the sky.

Not sure, but they're probably here all year because we treat them so nicely ... I live in central Florida as well. I'm glad they're here year round - I would be sad if my two Sandhills book back to Nebraska! :(
