By air, space is cleared with planes rerouted or put in a holding pattern far away and takeoffs delayed, fighter jets are at the ready to intercept and military helicopters fly low and in groups of two or three. The choppers also never take the exact same flight path to or from the airport. I have gone through this every so often since the days of the Clinton presidency.

President Obama did not use it muchas a personal retreat, but it was used many times for official meetings during his terms. It is not just a vacation spot for presidents and their families.
