Final Fantasy XI: Dragoon Guide

- It's been a very long time since my last job guide, since I've had a really busy time in RL, and I couldn't think of a better job to feature as a homecoming guide (of sorts) than the first job I ever got to level cap back in the day.
Some of my earliest and fondest memories of Final Fantasy XI stem from taking Dragoon from Level 60 to Level 75 solo, so the job's always held a soft spot with me. Today the Dragoon stands as a solid DPS job that isn't really understood by the majority of the player base. The job really does have a lot to offer to a guide is all the more pertinent.

Audio levels should be stable, but if they're off kilter I can adjust them.

As some have pointed out, here and in-game, I neglected to put in my TP and WS sets in this guide like I did for my Dark Knight guide. This wasn't intentional and is something that honestly skipped my mind, chalk it up to a lack of recent practice perhaps.
I've linked Spicyryan's written guide on the BG Wiki which has some solid ideas for gear sets. I have also provided links to my sets below via FFXIAH.

Jump: Same as TP. Relic Legs +1 for High Jump.

Ah... My favorite job. DRG job fantasy was always top for me. In the old days, especially after ToAU, it felt like you were raising the wyvern. The only weakness to the job, as intended with the job fantasy, is the SPs. My take on what they should be:
(SP1)Spirit Surge: Adds the power of your wyvern. Duration: 30 sec
Effects:
Increases Crit Rate by 10%.
Resets all Jump timers and reduce their cooldown time to 10sec.
Increases CURRENT Parameter Boosts from Wyvern x1.5. No longer sends Wyvern away.
Jump still reduces defense. High Jump still reduces TP.
(SP2)Holy Crest: Draw out the potential of your Wyvern. Duration: 30sec
Effect:
Copies ALL beneficial effects from the dragoon to the Wyvern.
All Wyvern Breaths receive effect of Deep Breathing.
Spirit Link, Steady Wing, Spirit Bond, Restoring Breath and Smiting Breath timers reset and cooldown reduced to 10sec.

The way it would play out is Spirit Surge is the wyvern fully supporting the Dragoon and DRG goes ham. Dragoon returns the favor for Holy Crest. Spirit Surge plays the same. For Holy Crest, can easily keep bursting SCs with enhanced breaths, both from the DRG still dropping WS and SCs, to popping Smiting. Can also help get a group back up real quick. With all the buffs of the DRG on the wyvern, like haste, multihit, etc, even if it gets hate, or just eating a lot of AoE, would have to break through Steady Wing. If they did, you have Spirit Links to keep throwing before the Regen wears off the prior one, and Spirit Bond with Restoring would have Wyvern healing itself as well.
Both SPs could generate massive hate for the DRG (Surge) or wyvern(Crest). Surge is easy. You'll have Super Jump. Crest you'd have to hold then use after. First SP enhances the DD/DPS aspect of DRG. The second enhances the support aspect, while also providing some decent, but not too out there. Thoughts?
Hey, I really appreciate you making this video. I just lvld DRG to 99 and I'm still new so I can't wait to build the sets and get him up to speed. Had no idea about the Wyvern's ability to level up and gain abilities... much appreciated.

I am not as strong as most but my DRG is so fun.. I was able to solo a wildskeeper reive and coca...
SAM or DNC work well for me, BLU is alright as well. Warrior is something I rarely if ever use, would you recommend anything else?
Looking at gear setup for Drg, does Vishap head ever come into play anymore? That was such staple part of my old drg soloing for initiating healing breath. It be shame if they made it worthless.

Jacob Victoria I was thinking the same thing. How can anyone play with those settings. No wonder Galka are considered very fat by some people when you have an aspect ratio making everyone 2 times wider ^_^;
Do you mean compress my ratio?
I understand if the video is hard to see unless you go full screen but since the screen I have is 1960 x 1080 I generally have it set to a ratio which works with it. I'll see what I can do.
SplitFinn your screen is stretched, which is why your character model looks wider than normal. You can really see it if you look at a circle in-game (shell animation, dragon circle, or even the moon)
