- Four months since my last job guide and the first on my new system. This is indeed Part One of Two since there is so much to this job that it simply could not fit into one video. Rune Fencer is still the dominant tank in the eyes of the wider community but here I am laying the groundwork for arguing its case as an equal. The two jobs complement each other very well, and this is one of the many things that will come up when Part Two is done a few months from now; I want to get more experience before I do so.

Part Two will go over the more advanced aspects of the job, DPS, and into how PLD works with other jobs. I figured it best to get the basics established first.
I can't wait for a dedicated DPS/MAB guide. People need to know about this aspect.
I too am super interested in your Holy II set for hits non-MB DMG. I have assumptions about how you do it, but also really look forward to see how you do it.

I've been messing with dps PLD myself. It's been a ton of fun, and I can testify that it has some viability.
Especially with Savage Blade being so stupidly powerful, a DPS PLD build is definitely viable.

I've been using the Su5 sword for a while on Paladin now. It's a great tool to have that a lot of people overlook. I'm glad you added the Su4 to the guide. The massive HP boost is nice, but having an item that is 50% of the cure potency cap makes it really easy to cap cure potency along with an SIRD set.

As a Paladin in the game I feel you over looked an easy to get sword with great stats, Brilliance from Sinister Reign. If lucky to get perfect stats, it can be used full time until Burtgang or other swords. Just putting that out there. Paladin does have access to enhancing magic duration through 3 pieces, 2 being rough to get, can give you up to a 40% boost on reprisal's timer aswell as phalanx.Also was curious if you were aware of the Asklepian belt. I didn't see it in your gear builds, but in my opinion I feel it's a better belt over the Creed belt providing magic eva and def while boosting divine and healing magic skills. I'm also against Souvern gear set, granted great dt, hp, and enmity, due to the low Int, mind, and chr because these three do play into magic eva based on spell and mind's secondary boost is mag def bonus. I feel the Souvern gear does leave you more open to enfeebles and higher magic damage if not using Aegis. Would like your opinion. Overall did enjoy your paladin guide.

I’ve watched this maybe 20 times and almost fell asleep each time.
These are the kinds of guides I like to see. A controlled dump of information complete with expectations and explanations so we can make our own decisions. I can't stand a lot of the guides on FFXIAH because they tell you "do this" with little indication of why, ultimately forcing you to dig through testimonials and wiki pages to research everything yourself anyway.

id like to add that fealty has two more effects: 1) also negates some, but not all enmity resets 2) resists ninja 2 hours. awesome vid btw

My memory may be fuzzy because it was almost 20 years ago so I may forget the exact abilities but here goes.
I got onto a group with an amazing paladin when the game first came to America. I was playing a ranger and met the guy in the Valkurm Dunes. Only ever wanted me to pull goblins. Every time they would start to ready Bomb Toss(that right?) He would bash them and make them kill themselves with it. Was so funny. We went all the way to Yuhtunga Jungle? Forget which was which but it was the second jungle where you had to load on a chocobo. Everyone else was huddle together farming the little mandragoras and fighting for tags and here's my group getting exp chain 5s on incredibly tough goblin. Hope the person that played that paladin is doing well.
Lies. Shield Bash will interrupt Bomb Toss, but it will *NOT* outright force the goblin to drop the bomb. Whether or not a goblin will drop his own bomb on himself is entirely random.
PLD intrigued me way back when COP came out and I actually slowed my socializing in game and began workin hard. I never got it passed 31 and ended up going the path of the Monk.
I may have to try this class out for funzies

He is TEARING SHIT APART with a tank job, again. This displays an utter mastery of Paladin.
Gotta nitpick a point. PLD and SAM are NOT the only jobs that can open all level 2 skillchain properties with primary weapon alone. Thf and Bst can both do it. I 'm not sure about other jobs though.

One note here. Aegis is a shield size 3, that blocks like a size 5. This translates to a base 50% block rate and 55% damage reduction.
While true on paper, block rate also depends on your shield skill vs monster iLvl. Where Ochain blocks 97% on iLvl139 mobs Aegis blocks 10% www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/46016/first-and-final-line-of-defense-v20/96/#3538417

Same here, I'm currently going through doing that myself. I'll bet that he's gonna wait to see what SE does to BST in future updates though before becoming immediately outdated.

Is playing ffxi these days even better than 10 years Who? Better graphics? As this video looks so beautiful and making the paladin look so good. Haven't played for 11 years but this video makes the game look so beautiful, wish 14 could have 11's simple magic and not so over the top.

at what point would you use a fast cast set over a spell interup - set? Or is fast cast mute if you have a precast set as Spell Interup - @100%?
Rua you talked about /drk but you forgot about absorb-tp. It's 320/320 enmity so while that's not a lot of VE, it's almost double the CE of flash/stun.
And yes, /DRK is the best SJ for single target on PLD. If all you're doing is fighting a boss, you should be /DRK.

When did they update flash enmity? It used to be 1200 VE and 0 CE. I also use priwen over ochain. It has a comparable block rate with reprisal but negates more damage upon a block. With enough haste/ fast cast, reprisal has a 100% upkeep, minus dispel. If you get the chance, I’d appreciate it you checked out my PLD gear guides. I meant to go deeper into it and make a whole guide series, but I lost interest and took a break from the game. I’ll be back, but it might be a while lol.

I'm thinking of picking up FFXI for the first time, is it possible at all to have a dps build as a paladin?
I noticed you didn't mention Excalibur. Is it worth going for. I know burtang is but very grindy

Loess Barbuta +1 in my opinion is the best enmity generation head set (www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Loess_Barbuta_%2B1) you can easily get more enmity than with the Burtgang
