Out of all waterfalls that we visited in Costa Rica Nauyaca is the most gorgeous and majestic. These stunning Waterfalls are located in the South Pacific region of Costa Ballena, around 20 minutes from Dominical. The waterfalls sits in a wide canyon that is covered in lush greenery. it’s split into the upper and lower falls with steps leading to both. Upper falls is around 145 feet tall cascade and the lower one is 60 feet tall. The lower falls are also where you can take a swim to cool off after hike. The natural pool of blue water is pretty big with plenty of room for everyone. The rocks around the waterfall are very slippery and I would recommend bringing water shoes with good grip and be very careful.
There are few ways you can get to waterfalls from the office where you buy tickets. You can either do horseback tour, get a ride in the 4 by 4 truck or take a hike.The cheapest way is to take a hike and it will take 1 to 2 hours each way. the fastest way it to take a 4 by 4 tour to waterfall and back for extra fee.In this case you will have 2 hours to enjoy waterfalls and the best thing is that you will only walk 100 meters on steps to get to waterfalls. We decided to take this option because we travel with a child and it worked out great for us. 2 hours was enough for us to explore these amazing waterfalls. The ride itself takes around 20-25 minutes. The road there is bumpy, but you can enjoy beautiful views of jungle all around. if you come early in the morning you can beat the crowds by taking the 4 by 4 tour and enjoy the waterfall without crowds. Be sure to bring lots of water and snacks with you on your trip, as nothing is available for purchase at the falls.

How long is the hike to the waterfall?
The trail to Nauyaca Waterfalls is 6 km or 3.7-mile (1 - 1 ½ hours) one-way (so 12 km or 7.4 miles total in and out) hike. They have an option ( for extra fee) to take you there and back on the truck.
