McAlpine Kneeler | better than knee pads

- The McAlpine kneeler is superb for when you need to do jobs at floor level, obviously bending down is not a good option, unless you want to injure your back, so kneeling on something that is comfortable and can be washed makes a lot of sense.

I WAS advised to use a kneeling pad about 20 years ago by an older gentleman. My colleagues of the time used to laugh at me, but it has saved my knees, and I'm so grateful to that wise older man. Great informational video, I hope those whom it would help most take some notice.
👍
Sorry for the lack of uploads recently, I’ve just finished working a plant shutdown. I’ll edit more kitchen fitting videos soon- to get that series finished.
I can’t believe how many times I said “comfortable” in this video 😂
I hope everyone has a great Sunday 👍
I remember working as a fitter/ Turner in paper Mills during a shut period, they were very busy times where you felt as if you were living to work.. another good review. Always enjoy them.
I wish I could go back in time and tell 18 year old me to look after your knees!
👍
I tried something similar in the past. I found the item itself wasn't the problem , it was the getting down and up from the floor with bad knees. The pads built into the trousers got abit around that
I'm glad this product exists, like you I have found the strap on knee pads very annoying. I normally keep old pillows handy for kneeling on.
Totally agree! 👍
Thank you. Will give this a go. Been using a foam pad but this looks much more comfortable. Like you said knee pads are so annoying/uncomfortable. I wrecked me knees about 10 years ago boarding out a loft (no pads/kneeler) and get really bad pain when kneeling now. Always think it won’t hurt just for a quick kneel without a pad - but soon remember it does! 😫
I thought it was just me that found knee pads annoying, but it seems like they annoy most people!
Thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks for your continued reviews. However, at £60+ this is not good value. My local garden centre sells similar cushions starting at £5 !
We tried some of those on site, they are ok for some uses. They didn’t last long when we tried them and often got thrown away after a few weeks of use 😉
£60 sounds like a bargain to save your knees!
A uniprod garage kneeler set for £8 does me. From Halfords. Not as good but much cheaper, use mine all the time. Lasts very well.
Just over 2 years ago, I purchased a pair of Cargo Pants. The ones with padding in the knee area. Just take out the pads and pop them in the washing machine. The pads come out as good as new.
👍
I have to Kneel down fixing the printers....
The running joke was thats why you called Neil.......🙄🙄
now I just get the younger lads to do the job were kneeling is reqd..
I have combat pants with inserts.... when I remember to put them back in after washing...
The younger lads would rather look cool wearing skinny jeans..
they would never been seen using one of these...but you can only offer advice...
Informative as ever Chez..
N x
Thanks Neil,
I can’t wear trousers with knee pad inserts either, I think it’s something to do with them restricting my movement. I can’t wear long sleeved overalls either, I have to buy a pair and get them modified 😂
I only wear long sleeves when welding for prolonged periods.
Thanks for the comment 😉
Good to see you looking so healthy 👍. The pad looks interesting, wasnt clear what the inner is made from? Also what was the grinder attachment for taking out the grout please? I have similar to do soon and wondered how to best control the dust and that looked ideal. Thanks.
Thanks, I appreciate that 😉
I’m not sure what the inner is made from, it’s some kind of rubber type material (but probably not rubber).
As for the grinder attachment, I’ve copied and pasted this from a previous answer-
It’s a “dust arrest” shroud. I bought it a few years back, but only got time to use it this summer. I bought the one that fitted Dewalt angle grinders. When I came to use it with my Dewalt cordless grinder it did not fit. I asked their support which adapter ring I needed and they could not tell me. I asked them to send a link to the exact adapter ring, but they could not send links to me email (apparently). I then gave them my Gmail address and still never received the link to the correct adapter ring! so I went out and bought a mains voltage Dewalt grinder. This time it almost fit, but not quite (so I could not use a mortar raking disc, without it hitting the dust shroud). The shroud costs almost as much as two mains voltage angle grinders, so it should be good! It’s just a pity that their support is no help at all. It does work quite well at removing the dust though, even though I just used a cheap vacuum cleaner and dust separator.
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman Thanks for the detailed reply!
Looks great for what I need.
Just ordered one 👍👊
I hope you like it, as much as I do. I also hope you get years of use from it!
Thanks for the comment 👍
I used a closed cell foam pad that came from a marine oil-pollution boom. I've had it ten or so years. I worked in various environments Waste to energy plants, ports, waste water treatment plants. It is still in perfect condition despite the ravages of welding/cutting, sewage steel grate decking, gravel, concrete etc. Spray it with disinfectant, hose it off- BOOM! good to go. I wish I'd taken the time to save all of the pads from the boom as I'd have been able to retire years early if I'd flogged them all. To the youngsters out there- take care of your knees elsewise you'll suffer terribly later on.
👍
👍👍👍.Thank you
Welcome 👍
Sorry if i missed it, but why not use a pair of trousers with kneepad inserts?
I bought a pair of overalls once with pockets for knee inserts, they were in the wrong place for my knees, and I had to keep adjusting them. This kneeling mat is far comfier as well
Thanks for the comment 👍
Strap on knee pads are annoying so I got DeWalt trousers and put foam kneepads inside the knee part. So much better. But those combined with this would be perfect. I ruined my knees when I was young as I was an idiot and didn't realise how kneeling on them for several years with no pads would ruin them.
Yeah, they annoy the crap out of me too!
There are two things that really annoy me- knee pads and Hi-Viz waistcoats!
I can wear all other safety gear with no issues, but the two mentioned above really wind me up!
I tried a pair of overalls once with knee pad pockets, but every time I knelt down, I had to adjust the legs on the overalls to get the knee pads in the right position. I guess it depends on the length of your legs etc.
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman I had same issue at first with the length. Can't remember what I did to fix it. Being 6ft 5" doesn't help but the kneepads in the pockets work fine now. But combined with this would be even better.
Looks good.
Was that grout remover an add on an angle grinder?
Yes it was.

@@ultimatehandyman Blimey 😦 What a palaver dealing with dewalt. Thank you for your kind reply.
@george-1961 It was not Dewalt, it is dustarrest.com/
That were the problem. Their support was terrible!
@@ultimatehandyman Sorry. Got the wrong end of the stick 🤦🏻♂️
0:53 Is that a standard grinder attached to a vac? What kind of vac/ attachment is that?

@@ultimatehandyman thanks UH
ToughBuilt Gelfit Thigh/Knee pads are brilliant and the way to go.. don’t slip down and really comfy
👍
Great idea but for what it is the price is extortionate. Amazon have similar types fo mats for just over a tenner, but whether they are as good I cannot say.
👍
Memory foam from an old mattress, I cut up the memory foam and made about a dozen pads, all the neighbours have one. 😂
😂
wish i'd protected my knees better when i started work on the buildings 40 years a go..
👍
Quite expensive for what it is, I use a 17" x 17" pressure cushion which I got for under £20.
Yeah, it’s not cheap by any means, but I’m sure it is worth it 😉
60 quid for a kneeling mat..what planet do you think we are on ?? Get a decent garden one for about 3 quid from BAnd M ...used one for years.. beautiful..
😂
60 quid for a piece of rubber.
I love your reviews, I really do but for £60 I would expect it to massage and be heated too!
What's wrong with using a piece of foam flooring (maybe two pieces glued together) that you see in gyms etc.
Nice if you get one for free but in this day and age £60 is a lot of money for many.
👍
👍
Looks like it's not available in US
I’m not sure if any McAlpine products are available in the states 🤔
Although I have found this- fave.co/3sJqOvn
Mcalpine bought out Redbacks (in the UK at least) 👍
🤘😎🤘
Thanks Wayne 👍
Is this a review or an Ad
Neither, it’s an awareness video 😉
I use the concreter pads and made my own, i glued foam to a bit of ply
👍
Like every experienced knee pad user you’ll find you should have bought two pads…..you need two to allow shifting of work positions……try it , show it for yourself on CZcams……👍🚀🤓
👍
Kneeling pads are, and have been for decades, on sale in garden centres for a fraction of that price 🙄
🤔
Ahh, but what's the claimed lifespan of it? Bet it's nowhere near that of a good pair of knees, which can last up to 20 years😏
😂
