- The distributor is locked out, now it's time to set up the FiTech computer to control the timing. In this video, "How to Set up FiTech Timing Control, Handheld Settings" we go through how to set up the "Base Timing", and what settings to use for Idle, and Wide Open Throttle. WOT.
You HAVE to lock out your distributor, so if you missed that video, please see Part 1, here • How to set up Ignition... Subscribe to follow along with the process, and for other project ideas for your ride!

Yes very interesting I'm following I have ordered the Ultra Ram Air -MSD DIS MSD 6 EFI BOX The MSD DIS has two Wires Two plugs According to Instructions One Plug will go to ECU one will go to the CDI MSD 6 EFI Box I did double check With Summitt They Confirmed That each item will work as it Should . I Have an ACES MUTIL PORT INJECTION Nothing but Issues I gave it 6 Months To have them straighten it out I had to take it to Tuner Just to get it Running He recommended Pulling the system so That's what led me to the Ultra Ram set up --My Buddy and Myself did the Aces install I had to change the tank Run Lines ect ect --After the chaos we had with this system Now i did an error I installed the 02 sensors in the collector area Sense moved My Batt Is also Located in trunk So If you any of you are thinking of running EFI and have your Batt relocated to Trunk You will have to run a heaver gauge wire You will drop voltage OK That got us to closed loop Took care of the Issues But still not right I'm sorry to say I CAN'T Recommend their product This is no way I'm bashing another company this has been my experience The Shop guys are great to work with --OK so this leads to my car in shop I'm letting the Tuner shop do install On the Ultra ram Due to all the issues we have had And the Issues he has had Will keep you posted as how it goes I had stopped by there yesterday He has one in front of me so hopefully he will get started on it this week
Make sure you ground the blue tach wire, I chased the rpm noise fault code intel that was grounded.
Agreed. I didn't know it acts as an antennae until AFTER this video. I also shielded my distributor output and added those Ferrite Beads to all of the cables going into the throttle body. Here's that video... czcams.com/video/v_X9xyERAQE/video.htmlsi=w_q9YZPWxFoM-Zc_ Thanks for the comment!

Beautiful ride you have. My question is what spark plug gap are you using with the msd? Your engine has oem iron heads right? Thank you
Thanks! My plugs are at 0.050" And no, I have ported Aluminum heads from Butler Performance. Thanks for the comment!
Really great videos explaining how this works. I'm curious can you use the distr advance without having the fitech do timing? I know that's not ideal, but can you tun off fitech timing control? Or is it turned off when you select 'not locked'?
Absolutely! That was in Part 1, where I switched from a standard HEI disctributor to a Pro Billet that I could lock out. The setting is in the handheld, where you pick between standard distributor, and 2 Wire + Coil. It'll work fine with almost any standard distributor. Have fun!
@@FastMonty thank you!
On one of your previous videos when your installing the wilwood hydraulic master cylinder. What fittings did you use/size. And where did you get them? Thank you 🙏
what fittings are you referring to?
The fittings that go on the wilwood hydraulic cylinder that you have bolted to the firewall to the clutch petal.
The inlet and outlets.
Thank you for responding 👍
@@trent_E When I hear "fittings", I think of tubing, and connectors... The hydraulic line comes with the throwout bearing. The mounting "Hardware" comes with the SilverSport kit. hope that helps.
Instead of a distributor I have coils how would I set up ignition settings? My handheld doesn’t have an ignition option
Great Question! I have NOOOO idea. What fuel injection system do you have?
@@FastMonty ultimate ls 750 hp efi kit
Nice! Unfortunately I've never used the LS set up, please reach out to FiTech, they might have a video of their own? Good luck!@@TheDRIVER3232
Monty. I have a 64 Tempest with a 66 Pontiac 389, FiTech system, MSD Pro billit distributor, MDS 6A ignition control. I am in the building stage of this project. Do I need to set my FiTech up with timing control?
Good question... do you "Need to"? No. Should you? ABSOLUTELY! Why not? you'll have full ability to change timing as described versus relying on weights and vacuum advance. You need need a phasable rotor, and lock out your advance. Keep us posted!
Is it possible to change the locked timing to a value like 10 degrees or 0? I am using a tbi distributor and believe the rotor will be clocked more properly this way. Isn't that the point of having variable locked timing? The computer either advances or retards from that point? Thanks for any help, and good video!
Good question CK! Short answer, yes, you can set the Locked Timing for setup. I think the default is 30 to keep it easy... For example, if you set the locked timing to zero, but your distributor is actually 30 degrees retarded, it might not start, and you'll be chasing your tail. As I detailed you have to know what your all in number needs to be, and that determines your "Base Timing". Hope that helps!
@@FastMonty copy that! Perhaps the alignment is closer to centered on the lug than I think, and 30 degrees will work good.. but if the alignment is off, I see this as a tool to correct that. Try asking some mechanics about this and I get deer in the headlights kind of looks lol.
Thank you for your help sir and quick reply!
Ha! Yeah, when I first read your question, I too felt like a Deer in Headlights... too funny. But, yeah, just an easier way to nail down that base timing. Have fun!@@CK-mf6du
