Here's my "one trick": While there IS some good advice to be had out there, many people on the internet are self appointed "experts", bullshitters, or even outright liars that don't really know what they're talking about and will relay bad information as fact or a "secret trick"... use your head and judge these advices accordingly, especially if sounds morally dubious or possibly illegal. Rule of thumb is if it sounds too easy or too good to be true... it probably is.

-cheaper items at stores aren't at eye level, look above or below
-making your own laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and i think fabric softener are all really easy and cheap to make (i'll post the recipes if anyone asks)
-plastic isn't actually recycled. its far cheaper to just make more, and you know how companies are. this isn't really a trick, but i feel like its good to know

Hold off on the recycling bit, husband actually works at a 3rd party bottle manufacturer for coca-cola. They actually do break down and recycle, and it is still easier to do this and ship it than to do it in house for cola.
Theyve (cola) tried it, and they fell behind in timing other processes which only created issues with molding of the bottles, creating back-log and warping of the plastics.
Now, I can only say that this is only one 3rd party shop, but that is still something of note.

Especially if you have a larger family, order groceries online. It’s much easier sticking to a budget when you can see the tax and price as you fill your cart, won’t have to worry about picking snacky items as you wander the store, don’t have to worry about kids wanting x and y, and most stores will even load it in your trunk for you.

Nah its one thing I have had several cops, one of who is my uncle say, just as general advice, is you need to know any and all rules you can be breaking at any time. Donut Operator a while back on I think a person with power interfering or being traffic stopped he states that you, as in the viewer, should be aware of any and all rules you may be breaking at any given moment, as cops, at least in the US can pull you over if they think something is illegal, like a broken tail light, even though its not and if you go to court and get it resolved nothing happens in the end, but it doesn't hurt to know your rights also.
Actually it mighta been Attorney Tom who said the thing about the laws but still it stands, Make sure you know what laws you could be breaking, and don't break them or bring it up to a judge in court about it.

Re the one about FCC. This is a PSA for younger Australians. A lot of groups of service providers have an “Ombudsman”. If Telstra, or your bank, your electricity supplier are stuffing you around a lot of times you just have to say,” I’m reporting this to the Ombudsman, can you tell me the contact details for the best person with whom his office can communicate ?” And they cave. The Ombudsman can investigate cases, can fine the service supplier if they’re at fault and has quite a bit of power. And reports to parliament.
Just thought I’d post this because I find many younger Aussies don’t know this free service is available. However, be sure if your facts, as when the Office investigates, they can refuse to act if they think you don’t have a valid complaint. Although, I always think it’s worth the threat!
Also, not positive, but I believe if you ask a company,” Does your industry have an Ombudsman, and what are the contact details?” They are legally required to tell you.

The story at 14:53 reminds me of my own experience. 19 and first moved out to a new province for school. My landlord and I had an agreement that 30 days notice was required from either party in order leave. Eventually he was selling his house and notified us he was doing so 60 days in advance. We found a new place in about a week and he refused to give us our damage deposit back because though he gave us 60 days notice, we did not give him 30 days notice and thus violated the agreement. I tried to look into B.C tenancy laws to save me only to find out the agreement that I had with him fell under shared accommodation and not proper tenancy. Thus I wasn't protected by B.C tenancy laws and he had all the power. This was not my understanding when I made the 20+ hour drive with my roommate when moving there and not how he advertised the place. Unfortunately he was able to take advantage of our ignorance and lack of confidence and the only thing I gained from that experience is that I won't be taken advantage of in that way again.

Back in the '80s, I moved into an apt (which had been occupied previously) and I came home every day and picked up my phone only to discover New England Telephone had once again NOT turned my service on and I went across the street to a pay phone and had a melt down on someone at their business office. I needed that phone. On Friday, someone I spoke to let the words "appeals office" slip out and I asked What's that? and she didn't want to tell me, but I pressed and I got the number and on monday I called the appeals office - apparently something they used to have at the state dept. of public utilities - and by that evening my phone was on. It was like, every call to the appeals office generated a ton of paperwork for them and now I knew this. N.E.T didn't mess with me after that.

This isn’t as good as some of these suggestions, but I’ve found it useful. When you’re at a car lot shopping for a car, and the salesperson wants to show you the inside of a particular vehicle, don’t get in on the driver’s side. Always get in on the passenger side instead. It throws the salesperson off his or her game because he or she is still forced to show you the car. More importantly, the salesperson can’t hand you the keys and pressure you to take an impromptu test drive. That test drive is a powerful way for them to seal the deal, so sidestep the temptation until you are ready to make your final decision.

Exercising can also go a long way and it doesnt have to be gym or anything intensive like that, it can be walking, stretching or just muscle flexing. Healthy relationship with food should also be encouraged, people shouldnt starve nor eat all the time but most of all - we shouldnt shame ourselves and other people.

Plus, given that an average human life in America was rated to be worth about 1.7 million back in 2017, even as trash of a person as I am, I consider myself very valuable. To me.
Oh, plus, they usually keep track of repeat offenders and wait for said offenders to steal enough to make it worth prosecuting them, but when they come after said offenders, it's usually ironclad.

This. Our old landlord (Middle Eastern male) was "okay" to deal with most of the time, but I (male) had to lay down the law with him on more than one occasion.
One time he got mad that I had replaced a light bulb with halogen bulbs, and he wanted us to use more expensive fluorescentbulbs. I understood him wanting to save $ (Our utilities are included) and had no problem installing the fluorescents, but had to actually tell him that HE would have to buy the bulbs if he wanted us to use certain ones. (It was a bit of an argument.)
The next notable occasion was when I left to Vegas for work training. I had been gone a week, and he decided THAT was the time he would come down to our apartment and chew out my wife for doing more than two loads of laundry a week.
He pointed out where it said in the lease that we were only to do laundry "two times a week." So I told my wife to just forget about what he said and live like normal till I got back. When I got back I got several people, (including a tenants rights lawyer) from a fb group we're part of to agree in writing that "two times a week" is not legally the same as "two loads a week." I told him we were willing to compromise and hang clothing to dry during the summer if he built a clothes line. He never did, so we went back to doing laundry as usual.
Our new landlord is WAY better. He once left us a gift box of rum from Guyana when he got home from visiting family.

I know a guy who got away with a ticket using the reasonable and prudent clause talked about at 24:08. That guy was my cousin. 1 night about back in 2011 he got a ticket for 127mph in the express lanes on interstate 90 in Chicago at 3am heading northbound. He got arrested and the whole 9 yards. His lawyer went to court about it, and asked for the studies regarding the speed limit since he couldn't find any studies regarding the speed limit on that section on the freeway. And the judge actually told him that they didn't exist. So he declared reasonable and prudent and ended up getting it dropped entirely because it turns out that in order for a speed limit study to be conducted, those express lanes needed to solely constructed to operate in the northbound direction. And since Chicago built those express lanes to be omnidirectional with only designated hours of the day operating either northbound and southbound, the state couldn't legally do the study. And at the time since there weren't any speed limit signs at all along the medians that the express lanes run through, it technically didn't have a speed limit and it was fully legal to go 127mph. But since traffic constantly built up so much on those freeways, nobody seemed to notice and everyone just assumed the speed limit was 55mph, when there was nothing ever declared.

They couldn't find any comparables in the area, so got quotes from junkyards, but here pay here lots for trade in value, and an internet post from ten years previous that was a guy offloading parts cars. They kept refusing to budge, so I filed a small claims case against the guy that hit me. They finally settled for the $3500 in quoted repair costs, and I got the check the day before the court date. They knew it was a losing case, the person they were supposed to be representing was pissed, and the lawyer they had as an intermediary probably cost more than the settlement amount anyway.

When I was in community college (aka hella broke) I upgraded my iPhone to the next one up, which included turning in my old iPhone. Next billing cycle told me I never turned in the old phone so they were charging me hundreds of dollars for it. I went to the Verizon store I got my upgrade at and told them what happened they said they didn’t have my phone & couldn’t find it. I asked if they could check the cameras and they said they didn’t have access to that :(
I wasn’t being a jerkoff customer (I worked at Walmart at the time too so I know how to treat the minimum wage employee) so I felt completely shafted by all this. I called the corporate office/HQ of the company and they said they didn’t have my phone on file and I had to keep bugging the store I turned my phone in at. Like what??? So I did and to not avail of course.
I ended up canceling my plan and mistakenly kept the newer iPhone and lost it after a while. If I wasn’t so begrudged I would have turned it in because of course it all went to debt collectors eventually who still call me every other day to remind me I owe this debt thanks to the stupid store that stole my old phone. 🙃
And I still feel like paying it would be bs so my prideful ass would rather take the credit hit, fuck you Verizon.

And don't think they don't recognize price tags, bigger stores have that written down somewhere and smaller stores like mine usually have the same people pricing the items running the registers so your not gonna pull a wall over anyone. About that breakdown for soda; OP got their conclusions wrong in their breakdown. Restaurants really don't want you to steal the soda, because that's where all the profit is. It's not that you're stealing $0.16 of soda, it's that you're stealing $1.44 of profit off a very small investment (numbers based on example in reddit post.) It's the sale of sodas that allows the business model to really work. Pretty sure none of the rest of their menu has close to the same margins as soda. Believe it or not, the movie "The Other Guys" got it exactly right.
The hotdog guy gives the badass cops "free hotdogs... FOR LIFE! ...I can't do soda though 🤷🏼‍♂️I'm sorry, I can't do it. Can't afford it. I can't do it..." he trails off, muttering about him not being able to afford the free sodas.
_THAT'S_ the real consequence for stealing from food services. Especially the high margin stock. Again, its not the low dollar amount on that single serving. Its the giant differential in profit they lose out on. In aggregate they really ding the business. You're screwing over the stock and costing the profit opportunity. Tons worse than simply not having sold that syrup.. at least it would still be an asset. Stolen inventory is stolen profit, is stolen potential buying power/future inventory.
If he gives the cops free hotdogs, Chances are good they buy a soda. And lots of dogs get tossed if they aren't sold; a certain amount of shrink is built into the cost. But they aren't what's really stacking cash. Not the way sodas do. Don't steal soda. Or else McDonald's will collapse. You don't want to be the guy who erased the Big Mac. I hope.

A large cup of soda costs 11 cents. That takes into account water, ice, cup, co2, syrup, and even the straw. The cup is probably the biggest expense.

Say the dress is going to be "on sale for 55". They first mark it 65, then up it to 75, then wait awhile and up it to 85, then now this "big sale" comes along with a deal where you will save 30$. They almost always ramp up prices in the weeks preceding a sale.

I cannot confirm this will always succeed, but if the cookies at Subway are a day old you can get them for free. I’ve managed to do it twice by asking “are these fresh.” If they say no then you can push the issue and bargain for a free one.

10:28 - as someone who worked at Kohl's, I swear, it's what we were trained to do. Point out savings due to Kohl's Cash, Coupons, things appearing to be on sale, etc etc.
But there is some good stuff that can come out of promotional events (Thursday thru Sunday usually) like, we had "take an extra 50% off clearance" thing going on. Then again, I'm an associate, not a big corporate person so... I mostly only know what I've been told.

If you make just over the baseline threshold for poverty to get food stamps, but just under working conditions to improve your life; place extra money you get into a retirement fund or CDs and live off food stamps.
It is not considered income and wont be taxed as usable by IRS therefore dropping you into a lower tax bracket (depending on the investment vehicle oc).
It will help you get your future going while you balance out your present and accrue interest.

You can also borrow from your own 401k and have a low interest loan that you pay to yourself. Very useful when you want to make the jump out of poverty level, or use for a down payment on a house.

Some stores will let you shoplift until you've taken a certain amount value from the store so they can slap you with a heavier charge.

When buying a car, having a check on-hand that matches the value of the car you're looking at gives you so much leverage in terms of negotiating a price. For my very first car, I had them drop the price from 11,000 down to 8600. Out the door price too, so they ate the taxes instead of me eating them. The check doesn't even need to be your money either, if your bank can offer you decent financing, they'll mail you a check specifically for a vehicle. It's how I bought my first car.
You'd think they'd want you to finance the car because long-term they'd get more money, but they also run the risk of just not getting that money at all, depending on whether the dealership finances it themselves, or through another company.
Preferably buy your cars out-right, as hard and unrealistic as it can sometimes be. The power of having a check / cash when negotiating a vehicle is phenomenal

Big companies will collude with governments to PREVENT zero unemployment.
When unemployment is low, workers can ask for higher wages.
Large companies and governments don't want that.
They prefer people to be poor and desperate to work for a pittance.
    Poverty leads to crime.
So when your government is giving tax breaks to billionaires while slashing social security benefits, you can also blame them for rising crime figures.

At 14:40 that's good advice for our military-affiliated folks here. Just avoid financing through them as a first choice though, because their interest rates for auto loans are generally going to be pretty high.

My insurance company paid me a pretty decent amount when my car got totaled. Had I not had the deductible, I actually would've made all that money I spent on the car back. USAA's a good company, they totally could've stole my money and they chose not to. Glad that story didn't happen with me
