@@JAM_2024 That's interesting, because after looking at the current state of existing EVs on the market, I'd rather say that other companies are being too early with EVs. Toyota will enter the market once the people are done seeing all the gimmicks from other companies.

I’m a 90s Honda guy crying in jealousy over how cool Toyota has become. The GR lineup, the honest connection to grassroots motorsports, and all the right names in the game (Ken Gushi, Fred Aasbo, Sara Choi, Larry Chen, etc) who were called in to make this project come alive. Bravo Toyota. Y’all totally knocked this one out of the ballpark.

It’s great that Toyota is poking fun at themselves. Up until recently they’ve been purely market data driven and they know it. I don’t think this has hurt the brand necessarily either. Now that they are doing fun again the general consumer thinks not only is this fun but it also carries the reliability of the Toyota name.
It's a Subaru engine. Their reliability has been terrible in FA20.

While im excited for more sports cars; anything new and Toyota is hardly reliable in comparison to their older cars, land cruisers and hiluxes are a perfect example.

-Other automakers: Toyota is keeping it conservative and are selling cars left and right. So we should follow that formula.
-But I honestly think that Hyundai , with their N models and non-traditional styling, has stirred things up in the auto industry these past 5-10yrs and Toyota finally decided to start 1 upping the competitors lol

just remember, this whole 86 family started after a certain 86 from a 90's anime took the world by storm, just imagine a commercial where the AE, GT, and GR86 go for a fun time on a mountain road. Im glad the AE86 was made and was put in Initial D because that is what got me into JDM cars and cars in general.

So glad Toyota hasn't abandoned enthusiasts like a lot of other companies, it's great seeing a resurgence of what made Toyota so amazing in the 90's.
I live in Norway, here the GR86 is USD 70k. I could get crazy electric cars that accelerate twice as quick for the same price (no taxes on electric cars). I still went down and ordered the 86. Thank you Toyota for producing these machines - now the long wait begins 🚗
I own a 23 GR 86. People like you that don’t want a lifeless electric are what will keep these cars alive, at least for now.. A shout out to you from the USA. I used to own an MR 2 which is a totally Toyota produced sports car. Any talk of a new MR2 has mentioned it being electric or hybrid. Just yuck. Not what a sports car should be.

Toyota is gonna unleashed their rally racing heritage on American with the GR Four Corolla.
I love how self aware this commercial is, especially with the two executives that clearly doesn’t know both their product and their buyers, totally obviously to the meaning, the history and the purpose of what they sell, being rather more focused on outdated methods and irrelevant preoccupations. It is also a brilliant idea because it helps the commercial to not focus solely on the stunts either which could quickly become repetitive and boring.
Well done Toyota, if you could give the same message to your friends at BWM that you’d be sweet of you.
I work in branding/advertising and this is SUCH a smart strategy-it's exciting without being self-important, and directly addresses/satirizes objections that have built up towards Toyota over the years (it's too corporate; it's bland; Toyota doesn't make fun cars; etc). The long-term teaser strategy over the GR Corolla has been spot-on, too. Marvellously fun stuff!
