Sacking mourinho right before a final says alot about how they end up here
Moaninho would have won a cup, with a bye at Leyton Oreint
That game today was disgraceful from spurs, never before have I seen a team be so uninterested in winning a game. Everton on the other hand had so much desire for the whole game
Conte spoke of this yet still he lost his job. The truth these days isn’t favoured.
Spurs have had two top managers back to back in Mourinho and Conte. Mourinho has won everything european football and conte is a serial winner. At some point you gotta realise that it's not the manager's problem. I mean the manager didn't sack himself before a cup final, now did he?
They're not people persons
They were both finished
Mourinho’s football was outdated for the modern premier league game and so is Contes.
@@JobblyBobbly This is why spurs will always be a small club. Always blaming it on the manager and can't see the real problems.
Well said 👏
They needed a manager to win them a trophy and they sacked him before the final
One caraboa cup wouldn’t change anything
@@henrykearns4041 for Tottenham Hotspur, it would have
I was shocked at that, sacking Jose before a final... ridiculous.
Mourinho had no chance of winning that final.
There was even a statement by Levy, “I was worried about losing 10 important players.” As if sacking a manager right before a final would be something that would convince them to stay. A Carabao Cup would have been a good starting place.
Levy wanted Jose gone and if they had won the trophy, Levy would have even less justification for sacking Mourinho. Growing pains are a thing after all.
Arsenals culture changed also because edu and the josh and Stan kronor backing the project with more money than they’ve ever spent in the past. They backed arteta when nobody else was when we had gone 10 + games without a win. I also don’t think many or any of arteta signings he did not want compared to conte getting club signings like djed spence and bissouma. Arteta would be gone if levy was arsenals director
it’s pretty short sighted to say that a manager changes the culture. manager can’t do anything without proper backing and owners w a plan. and no proper backing doesn’t j mean giving the manager a blank check
Arteta wouldn't be gone because Levy wouldn't have hired him in the first place.
I still can't laugh enough on the fact that they sacked Jose Mourinho a week before cup final. Only manager who had beaten Pep Guardiola in a cup final - That's some genius at work right there :D

Let's be real, if Arsenal were fighting for top 4 as most people presumed at the start of the season, Spurs wouldn't be moping about. They are still in a decent position for Spurs. I say that with respect from a United fan.
Exactly, everyone can't be the best or amazing because then no one is.
i kinda agree with u but in some ways not cuz spurs have, as conte said in his last press conference, fallen off compared to last season. last season they were building something getting top 4 and this season was gonna be it after that big transfer window for them. fighting for the title like many predicted before the season started. but nah, its too weak mentality in that squad and they dont buy the right players at the right time once
@@marccutirella That was expected from a 2nd season Conte team anyway. The players apart from Kane and a few others aren't happy anymore and have lost confidence and form. Son went from one of the most clinical strikers in the league to not being able to score. A lot of Conte's signings have also failed. For a Spurs window, they actually did invest heavily for Conte.
But they won the transfert market🙄🙄🙄🙄 and than it's almost almost almost
Tottenham need to improve on their defence and Gk if they want to fight for the title
They need to remember their place and be happy that they are still part of the big 6 conversation despite having won 2 trophies and 5/6 UCL qualifications in 30+ years.
Amen
Exactly. They forget where they were. Growing up they were in the same category as Blackburn Sunderland Middlesbrough Everton Villa West Ham etc and look at them. Tottenham are by no means Man Utd Liverpool Arsenal or oil rich Chelsea and Man City so Levy has done a brilliant job... If anything they've overachieved. Not to forget the billion pound brand new stadium.

He, both of them, tried to explain it, and Neville made great point with that graphic how they have improved where they are In table. But of course to be considered one of top clubs, it’s about winning. Even a domestic cup here and there.

Ikr, the culture bit is a really good point. The manager is the one who decides the culture at the club. Klopp at liverpool, arteta at arsenal.
Wasn't too far off going full Chiellini
Jamie's right about Conte. He wants to win within his first or second season at the latest. I don't understand why he went there !!!!!
Spurs made him an offer he could not refuse. His bank account will be very thankful
He doesn't want to win in the first or second year, he wants to win every damn game, every single one. If you see and hear him, that's his baseline. You're completely right to say that doesn't necessarily fit Tottenham, cause there are players there and were in the past, that are more interested in nuttmegging an opponent or looking good themselves, than to win a game at whatever cost it takes and give yourself up for it.
Because it was clear that Tottenham werent going to go the extra mile. It started with the planning, it continued with the signings, it got worse with the January signings until Conte couldnt take it anymore. Tottenham are happy with the top 4 or top 6, they are not going to challenge for anything. IMO it wont be long when Kane decides to leave, especially if a big club comes asking.
You can't just keep sacking managers and hope things will change. At some point Daniel Levy himself has got to go
Should have been gone by now
Levy and Lewis are the only people at the club who can't be forced out.
I wish he stays for 50+ years
Or just replace all senior players and coaches with the new ones. Start from scratch, as Arsenal did. Kroenke stays at Arsenal, but the club replaced the manager, the staffs and most of their high-profile players

First thing arteta did after coming in and his main point was sorting the culture.

@@jerryoshea3116 but when poch was there he had 7 different captains of national teams. He also had a much much better squad than what any manager since has had (largely thanks to Alli, dier, rose, alderweireld etc all losing form under poch and also not helped by poch personally choosing ndombele, sessegnon, and lo celso to splash his budget on in his final season) and he still had only a 0.3% better win rate than Conte had.
It doesn't matter if he makes white Hart lane into a fortress if we go to any stadium in the bottom half of the league and struggle. Tim Sherwood and Andre villas boas had a similar win percentage, it was only because the rest of the league was also throwing away points that it seemed better than it was, just like this year we've performed awfully but we're still fourth somehow.
This is levy’s spurs, never upgrading players like dier, Sanchez, Lucas, Davies. Sacking managers whenever they ask for better players. Mourinho wanted a class CB and got rodon. Conte wanted a CB and got Lenglet. Never mind though because Levy spent £1bn on a concert venue
conte got backed jose had rose, toby, dele, tanganga, sissoko all who disappeared or got shipped when he left. Conte's style is very confrontational and not great in cup tournaments which is the main issue as there was no way spurs were gonna finish above man city. This just meant the best conte could do was top 2/3 which he would eventually realise and would not be satisfied with causing all the tension
@@Tsangass conte absolutely did not get backed, the club can’t even shift ndombele, lo celso, winks, rodon, Sanchez, tanganga, Lucas. No manager is given the opportunity to wipe the squad and rebuild, conte wanted two CBs and got lenglet, took them a year to get a decent RWB because instead of getting one in the summer they got spence, Jose has been backed at Roma and won the conference league and is currently 3rd in serie A,
these elite managers don’t get given the tools to win here, Levy only cares about profit from the stadium not trophies

Its neither the club culture, nor the manager. A system as great as a football club needs incredible synergy to reach the elite level. The owner, staff, players, manager, doctors, cooks, and everyone in between must have the same vision for the club. Only when everyone is on the same page can a club make that next step. You can have all the quality, work ethic, mentality, tactics in the world, but if everyone is not trying to reach the same goal through the same path, it quickly becomes unsustainble
And now for another episode of "to be fair, at this moment at time" with Gary Neville
He does say that a lot. I'm not sure he realises it too.
If mourinho can not change the club, it will never change unless a whole new board , staff , owners
If the club could not win something with one of the best strikers in the league then its future is looking tough
Football is a team game. Kane can’t win something alone, especially when he’s failed to show up in every final they’ve played.
They've had numerous top manager's. They always end up blowing it in the end. I think spurs think they are a bigger club then they actually are
Than*
The England of club football.
Spurs being spurs
The fans certainly do
The question still remains what promises where made to Conté that made him go to Spurs in the first place?I don't understand why hé decided to accept the offer because he's a serial winner.Mourinho & Conté can't go to war with this squad of players .They might have to go back to appoint a type of Klopp or Ferguson to have time to instill their philosophy into the club.A bit like Pochentino's first reign, even though hé did not win anything.
Mourinho is someone who can make a club better when given the time. His current club becomes better every year as the club bosses have trust in him and give him the time he needs. They weren't as patient in Tottenham even when they had decent results. The tournament final, at some point they were even at the top of the PL. But it seems that they are so desperate to win titles at all cost that they sack everybody as soon as they have their first crisis.
So at least in Mourinho's case they should have known that they need to give him time. Conte on the other hand is known for winning silverware quickly, but the clubs he managed before have better conditions to work with. I think that was a big misunderstanding in the first place. Still, except for the last games, Tottenham wasn't so bad overall. But again, the club bosses are so desperate for titles that this wasn't good enough for them.
Kane made himself a UK legend by only showing up in meaningless games😂 its the greatest mystery of all time
Lmaooo what the hell are you guys smoking ? Weren’t Conte and Mourinho top managers ? Oh no I forgot you guys prefer to praise Ole Gunnar or Roy Hudgson 🙃

Idk. His goalscoring record in PL big games, esp NLDs, is fantastic. With knockout tournaments, he's had some bad luck (like playing a CL final after like six weeks out and unclear fitness) and often the team just isn't good enough for him to be relevant (like that LC final where MC had something crazy like 80% possesion and didn't let Spurs out of their own third -- which means the defence and MF weren't good enough for that opposition).

You’re having a laugh, but low key Potter would probably be a great boost for Spurs. If Levy swallows his pride, sells Kane and uses the money to refresh the squad, in 3 years they might have a baller team like with Pochettino
Very good, refreshing points made by Carragher & Neville here IMO
Nah, a bang average manager is needed I reckon
Back after Ange's comments. Nothing has changed. Tinpot club
Really glad to see someone call out the laziness of putting Spurs' problems down to 'spursiness' and 'culture'. I'm sure the culture at the club could improve, but if you look at the position Spurs were in when Levy took over (averaging 11th) and where they are now, it feels ridiculous to say he's the problem. Fact is, they overperform relative to their commercial stature, and this stadium will be cash cow when it's paid off. I'm not a Spurs fan but I just don't get why Spurs fans so readily blame Levy when the real problem is that this league is full of team who have vastly more spending power
I’ve been saying this myself but I just get called a troll by Spurs fans. Fact is, they’re just a deluded, toxic fanbase, and their recent treatment of players says a lot about why they haven’t been performing on the pitch. How are players like Sanchez even meant to play with confidence if they’re booed before they’ve even walked on the pitch.
Some amount of fans showing cognitive dissonance in saying that Mourinho and Conte were passed it at Tottenham when Conte won a Serie A breaking a juventus stronghold just before and Mourinho went away and won a European trophy with a medium sized Italian club 😂
It is much more likely that it is Tottenham that is the problem
Had the manager they needed in Poch and just needed to fully back him plus focus on building strong youth/scouting/ recruitment systems, but instead sacked the priceless gem that was Poch all because as Levy said himself " my head told me to do it". He's not cut out to be a chairman of a club that wants to win big things.
This is NOT A DEBATE GENTS. Smh 🤦♂️. Both men are agreeing. This is a discussion.
They have had multiple top managers, there is something wrong with the club/dressing room. They need a rebuild like Arteta did at Arsenal
Mourinho and Conte were top managers and won everywhere but Spurs, it doesn’t matter who comes, no one can change Spurs
As Chellini said, It is the story of Spurs
Except Levy, who took them from finishing 11th to regularly getting Champions League football.
Top manager is one element of the recipe. You need years to reboot the squad to work for the manager. Spurs have suffered greatly because their squad is filled with bandage signings every year to try and win now.
The history of the tottenham is alive and well

'You wouldn't accuse Harry Kane of that' - Jamie's reply to players not wanting to play under pressure. Jumping straight to the defence of the Englishman when he has bottled every final and semi final he has ever been in.
That's the worst way to start the argument.
British pundits protect British players and managers shamelessly.
That's why Spurs are bad.

I can't believe the way the media approach Daniel Levy it's disgusting. He is bleeding Spurs dry with the way he runs the club and both Jamie and Gary saying we need ANOTHER top class manger after just firing 2 (or 3 if you count Poch) of them. When Man Utd were in turmoil it was Glazers this Glazers that now it's Spurs turn and they all bow down to Lord Levy and can't possibly say a bad word it's always the managers fault! "For 20 years there is the owner, and they never win anything, I wonder why?!"
I totally agree with Jamie and Gary here. Tottenham haven’t won a trophy in 15 years, and haven’t won a major trophy (EFL Cup isn’t major) in over 30 years. They’ve only ever won the league twice, and the last time was over 60 years ago. I still remember when Tottenham were a literal mid-table team in the 2000s. Getting to the last 16 of the CL and finishing in the top 4 is an overachievement for Spurs. Idk why Tottenham’s managers and some fans & pundits expect so much more.
How many "top managers" do they need at this stage?
Maybe one without a toxic personality and with an actual progressive vision that the players and the fans can appreciate.
They fired Mourinho right before a cup final... They've had proper managers, it doesn't make a difference. It's in their DNA
Football clubs don’t have DNA genius, they aren’t biological organisms.
I still can't believe that they fired Mourinho right before the League Cup final. At least fire him after the damn final.
Conte told Son not to should from his favorite spot instead to pass to wingback for cross while taking defender to inside the box. It is the first time that Son mentioned in his Spurs interview. Conte intentionally went to wingback crossing while killing Son's ability to score. How frustrated he must have been to follow the tactics that does not fit his strength while taking all the crap from media and fans. No wonder he plays like he owns the game in A matches. Son was totally different at Korean International team games. I am glad Son finally said something that many already suspected.
No they need the owner to spend on top players for the positions required
While I agree with Jamie up to a point about the manager, he is also missing a big point. Klopp had to build at Liverpool, but when he had his foundation in place, the club backed him by buying Van Dike & Decker to get over the line, Spurs didn't do that with Poch. If you look at last nights game, one thing stands out like a sore thumb, playing under pressure, Everton are Spurs can't & that's what Conte was saying.
Go back to the year Leicester won the leauge & people will say that Spurs lose the leauge in that Battle of the Bridge game, for me they didn't, they lost it in the game before at home to it was either WBA or Stoke, I can't remember which. Is it fear, a lack of self belief, or is it just that for to long Spurs have excepted living on easy street ?
Wenger said earlier in the season, it's not in Spurs DNA to go for a leauge, & don't get me started on Sir Alex's, look lads it's Tottenham, can there be a more condemning statement about a football club than that ?
you can't expect a manager to change a club in just a couple seasons, and then have the audacity of blaming them for "not doing their job". I don't believe that a club with so much money hiring 2 of the biggest managers in europe and still not getting trophies, like not even a FA cup or a carabao? I get they don't win the league going against maybe the best teams in PL in history (liverpool and man city) but a FA cup surely should be in their annual list of trophies to win
Spurs do have the best stadium. Their training ground is nothing compared to City’s though.
Neville should recommend them to appoint Potter since he thinks so highly of his abilities.
I dunno, a point at Everton this time of the year is a very good point
Harry Kane has never shown up in a big game in his entire career and yet these guys still act like he’s a different breed from the rest of the Topspurs.
What Daniel levy can be praised for is the economic foundations he’s built for spurs but now spurs need competent football centric ownership if they want to succeed
So they need a miracle basically? Businessmen don’t buy businesses because of their love for it. They buy it for profit.
I'm a Leeds fan and Bielsa would do a good job for Spurs. He doesn't spend much, loves developing players, plays attractive football, and completely changed the culture at Leeds.
i have been saying it over and over but spurs fans are so blind that they focusing on big names
We should go for Will Still. For the memes.
We need a manager that is prepared to stay for 5 years, it’s a process which requires patience from all parties
They've had top managers managers that a club with 1 trophy in 20 odd years don't deserve..
Carragher's wrong when he says it's the manger who changes the culture. Yes, Klopp & Arteta were bought in and changed some of the culture, but they also got backed in the transfer market with the players they wanted. Pochettino was building something at Spurs and then Levy doesn't spend a penny in three consecutive transfer windows. There is the difference. The funny thing is, if Levy was Levy's boss then he would have sacked him by now.
They deserve it. You don't sack a manager a week before a cup final.
God Gary is loving this😂
Carragher is a brilliant pundit. Able to analyze things with a lot of clarity
They've had mourinho and conte. What other top manager could they get
Great take from Gary. Spot on 👍🏼
Levy hired Fabio Paratici to be the lead guy for football stuff- he has admitted that he doesn't want to run the football side of it. Paratici and Conte were dynamite at Juventus... So why do people think Levy has done something wrong? With the same information as him 2 years ago, would you not have thought that it was a great idea to bring Paratici and Conte to Spurs?
Really easy to criticise in hindsight. Just remember that Spurs were mid-table before Levy, and we have just built one of the best stadiums on the planet.
Gary Neville has a pretty good track record as a manager.
Carra says they're not good enough as a squad to be higher up. Most would have said that about Arsenal too, and yet they're leading a two-horse race for the title.
If we're honest it goes back to poch.
We had an unbelievable squad under him, but under him alderweireld, vertonghen, winks, rose, Alli, dier combined dropped from over £200 millions worth of players to £70 million at most. (yes vertonghen and alderweireld had their age factor into that but their form fell off much more quickly than it should have).
He had a higher overall net spend than Liverpool in his time there and broke Tottenham's transfer record three times including players like Sanchez who was unbelievable at Ajax and flopped at Tottenham.
He moaned that he didn't get a say in transfers so we gave him control over transfers and he spent £53 million on ndombele, £40 million on lo celso, and £25 million on sessegnon leaving us with practically no defence (the best part being that he personally picked lo celso over Bruno Fernandes).
Since then we've brought in players like hojbjerg, Romero, Emerson, kulusevski, bentancur who have all been great yet under him nearly every signing flopped.
He's known for his youth record but the only youth player he bought through was Harry winks who then completely lost form under him anyway.
Clearly players like foyth, Edwards, walker peters, and madueke were good enough for Tottenham but he didn't give youth a chance.
The fact he didn't win anything during 15/16 or 16/17 when we likely had the best squad in the league doesn't help and nor does starting an injured Harry kane over Lucas in the CL final (not that we would have won that either way probably)
It won't do A different beacuse its the history.........
Give Spurs a trophy for the best training ground and best stadium in Europe, Gary.
This XG stuff is just nonsense 😂
I’ve missed these clips! Stop making them for UK region only! ⚽️
Quite simply, the board at Spurs don't understand that you have to let top managers manage. If you interfere, then it undermines everything they do. Once that happens, the players no longer respect the manager and his position is untenable.
Carragher saying spurs arent good enough to be further ahead than they are when he and neville had them to challenge liverpool for second.
Shambolic analysis from Gary at the start there saying we were in a good position and the confrontation wasn't needed. Spurs fans don't class 4th as a good position, with Conte we should have been fighting for the league if Daniel Levy backed his manager PROPERLY getting HIS players and not "club signings" and looking for transfer "opportunities" and cheap deals rather than building to be a serious football contender. The confrontation was due to Levy not showing the ambition Conte and the fans wanted to see. Furthermore Daniel Levy DID NOT take us to second, Poch and Paul Mitchell took us to second don't give credit to the person that doesn't deserve it.
Why does Gary Neville look like a Just For Men advert
They had 3 top managers Jamie hello?????
he said it clear and in their face , this club its used to loss they dont have the history like man utd or chelsea who are struggling but they do have the motivation to do better and that s a big part of the story , u can not let yourself always at the same level , they need to get out of Levi
The mount of defence that English managers/players/owners get is astonishing.
Spurs have had 2 top managers. Jose and Conte and still couldn’t win them a trophy. At the end of the day a wise man once said ‘It’s the history of the Tottenham’
It’s not like Spurs had a dressing room of world class players though is it? They didn’t have the squad they needed to win under those managers.
They need a top class manager to manage Kane's talent.
It’s not all abt Kane cus mourinho came in and made son and Kane playing at their best level what they need is someone who rebuild and change the culture of the club..
Best for both sides to part ways now. Kane should have left a season ago.
@@ek6352 he's likely gonna stay now that spurs are likely getting top 4, if they get nagelsmann they might win trophys next year
Ole is right for spurs
That is not a bad idea
Neville is so happy that his opinion about Conte has been vindicated
I think carra was actually spot on here
Why not mention going out to Sheffield and Forrest in the cups
For all Levy’s perceived faults he’s delivered a world class stadium and training complex and the club is extremely well run. Be careful what you wish for look back at the past with Irving Scolar Sugar and that crook Venables. I don’t know what the answer is I suspect the club will be sold within the next couple of years see where that goes.
I love that they are only using the Premier league era, 20 years comparison against 9 years.
That is lazy punditry not labeling us as spursy as that seems accurate to me 😂. Sugar started this rut and levy has benefitted from that. Show 1981-2001 the same time frame and compare.. you'll be shocked at the fall
They have already gotten all the top managers in world football and they couldn't change that
