    Nice video. Two things… it does say in the instructions to rinse the carbon before using the Detox Dechlorinator, and you can use the fittings supplied. They are compression fittings so they will work with US size hose.

    Thanks for the info. I found inline carbon filters but for some reason they all said not tested for aquarium use. Seems weird to me but this looks like a dandy. PS. do you see any reason i couldn't put on other end because I don't have enough clearance on bathroom sink. Thanks

      I'm glad it was helpful. You can definitely put it on the other end. It is just decently heavy so you want to make sure you have something to sit it on. Attaching it directly to the Python hook and having it hang off would probably be fine or just getting a Python extension hose and putting it in the middle could work too.

    Hello, does this reduce nitrate as well please? As my tap water have 75 nitrate…

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  Před 2 lety

      No I do not think it will reduce nitrate. You probably have to get a specific type of filter media to reduce nitrate.

    How do you know when it's spent?

      There is no clear indicator on it that will tell you. When I get mine I just do an estimate based on how often I change water and how much I change.
      It will last about 150,000 liters or 39,500 gallons. I use gallons and have three tanks that I changed about 50% of water a week on.
      Total gallons I have: 160 gallons
      Average gallons changed per week: 80 gallons
      So then I divide 39,500 by 80 to get the total number of weeks the dechlorinator would last on average.
      39,500 / 80 = 494
      Then I divide by 52 to get the estimated number of years.
      494 / 52 = 9.5
      So for me it would last on average 9.5 years if I kept the exact same tanks and same maintenance schedule. I know that tanks change so it can get it little complicated. I just use that as an estimate and would probably not go up to 9 years. I'd probably change it out around 70-80% of my estimate so I'd keep it for 7-8 years. Each year after use I will test chlorine after using the filter just to make sure it is still working as intended.
      I know that was a lot but I hope it explains how I go about estimating how I calculate how long it will last. Unless you have very large tanks or ponds the filter should last you a good number of years safely.
