- SO I HAD TO GET A NEW UV LIGHT TO FIT ON THE POND MORE MONEY I HAD TO SPEND THE THINGS WE DO TO KEEP OUR KOI HAPPY,BUT IT PUT ME IN THE DOG HOUSE WITH THE WIFE LOL!!!!
IF I CAN FIX THE OLD ONE I WILL TRY AND FIX IT!!!!

Good tip about getting a new fittings James especially if the old one has been on there for a long time.
I’m definitely a fan of a uv light. I see a huge difference in my ponds when one has a light one and another does not.
Hi James another great video 👍 a tip for you is wrap ptfe tape around the corrugated pipe under the jubilee clip will cure any drips 👊

Hi James Great video I have the same UV but 30w all I would say is be careful when changing the bulb I too had the same situation where I fitted it was tight and when changing the bulb I broke the Quartz sleeve and didn’t know until a while later it stopped working when I investigated it this is when I found out the quartz sleeve had a slight crack in it which aloud the pond water to come into contact with the bulb in which the bulb terminals had corroded. Thinking I could repair it I replaced all new parts but still couldn’t get it working, took it back to the shop I bought it from (Swallows Aqatics Dartford) they tested it couldn’t get it working so they replaced it with a new one due to the 2 year Warranty that was still left on it. (3 Months left) so happy days for me then. But just bear in mind when you need to replace with new bulb M8!
Oh one other tip I give to people is when fitting hose to hose tails always smear a bit of Vaseline around the Hose tail this helps out with leaks or drips M8

Another great video. I’ve just made a few changes and have a few leaks. I can’t figure out why, but now I’ll replace the old jubilees with new. Would never have thought it would be them. BTW PTFE should be wound on clockwise 😉
I have the evo 55 James. It stopped working could be just the bulb so if you want it for spares your welcome to it. I went for a TMC 110 pro.
I did look at the 110pro but money was a bit tight lol is yours good then
James THE KOI whisperer to be fare I’m on my 3rd TMC 1st one packed up after a month so go it on warranty 2nd one turned up smashed to bits and 3rd one Is working fine. But only had it for 1 week. If you want my evo 55 u can have it. It’s the same as the one you just bought.only in Taunton 👍

Hi mate when I am connecting flexi pipe to hose tail I always wrap electric tape around the hose tail then the pipe clip can squeeze onto that perfect seal every time. Great video mate

With my TMC units I’ve found if the bulb hasn’t failed it’s always been the “starter unit” which you can pick up cheaply from any electrical supply store or eBay!
Worth trying before replacing your existing unit mate as only a couple of quid!
Search “fluorescent light starter”!

Well you had all the dramas there James definitely got to fit that turn off valve to the uv unit mate lol 😄 but you live and learn that's what it's all about man you got it sorted mate that's the main thing another day in the ponding game, good job done in the end mate 👍👍👍👍👈.

Another quality vid keep up the good work and i havnt git a koi pond hopefully moving into a new house in next 4 2 5 weeks with a 6000 gallon i think will need you advice when i move in it only has 3 koi 1 gold fish tho oldest 2 koi are 25 t 30 yrs the older one 40 t 45 i reckon they are above 3ft long the 3rd chag about 65 t 75 cm

You do not need to change tubes until they stop working basically, if you fell you must, once a year but waste of money.

Hi James luv watching you. But I have one criticism. You are winding the ptfe tape on the wrong way. You have to wind it in the same direction, that you would screw a nut on. Keep up the good work.

I put PTFE on the hose side as well, stops a lot of dribbles.
I have both and the older one is much better made.

Good video mate, koi look spectacular. I don't understand why EA only make the Evo 55 with 1 1/2" bore. Should be 2". I use to run the Evo 30 and they are a good UV. The water does get more time with the bulb, due to their length. Keep up the good work mate, take care, Terry.

Imo the kockney koi uv are a far better product than the evo, very solid body and it’s a wide body so no flow restriction plus all parts are available for repairs.

With that flexi hose going to the u.v if you lifted it once you disconnected it the water would stop flowing as it would be higher than the pond.

James when I put the PTF tape on are you always put it on both ends of the host tale just to give it a bit extra when the jubilee clip goes on looking good mate

I really liked my EA 110 uv but just changed to a 55w amalgam, the wire length is a joke on the Ea UV’s
I shipped on to Australia and yes the quality of the plastics are cheap and disappointing it also restricts the flow of water
got couple things James, 1 , you can tell your wife hates being on camera , 2 , you change your uv tubes every 3 - 4 months , must cost you a fortune , they last for 12 months at least , Christ , I had one on my old uv that was there for 3 years , still worked , still kept water clear , looking at your water in your pond and how clean it is , think I need you to come and sort mine out ,
Yea it’s not to bad mate I get them from eBay about £20 each and yea they stay on 12 months but you only get like 4 months out of them when they work best then they slowly stop working as well
A UV light on average, is good for 9,000 hours.
UV light wont stop algae on the sides of the pond, just the water.
All I hear is bad stuff about the evos always breaking! Sorry to say that James 😂 I’m not sure if it’s a novelty of having a evolution aqua. I got a pond Xpert one cheap as chips and I’m really impressed with it.
Tubes are always wet, sleeves break easy when tightening the ends, Basically they are a pain. Must be better designs. The Evo works really well apart from those problems.
I’ve got the same one it’s great but I found it a bit fiddly connecting the ends on the tubes

Not very big about 12ft long 5ft w 3/1/2 deep

My EA 55 has gone through 2 ballasts in recent years, £12 from my local CEF for a replacement.

If anybody is interested I have found a company in stoke that manufactures bio media, you know that really good stuff that has mega surface area inside and out. I know this stuff is really expenses compared to other forms, however they are willing to sell the off cuts in 10kg bags. It is exactly the same as the normal product but in irregular shapes. I have now been using this in my shower and modified filtered and can honestly say my water parameters have never been so good and stable. If you are interested then get in touch and I will put you in direct contact. Hope this might help.
