Cartman was actually remarkably patient, by his standards. Took him a while before he even said "ok seriously you're starting to piss me off now", and even after that he seemed like he would've been content if he was just able to get back to playing his game.

Kids today are waaaaay smarter than they used to be. Most of the kids now has access to pretty much whole database of human knowledge, right from the day they were born. Many 6 years old, who can barely read, have better understanding of modern technology than most 60+.
And that is also the reason, why this "emotional blackmailing" usually doesn't work anymore. Thanks to the technology, kids could easily find out that their parents are lying/hiding something and then the "fun" will begin.
My point is, that one cannot treat today's generation of kids in the same way kids were treated 50 years ago or even 20 years ago. Technology changed the world, and kids are always the quickest to adapt.
