The drummer was in a car wreck, he fell partly out, and the car ended up crushing his arm, as he was lying in the hospital room, recovering from losing his arm, to show what great friends they were, they told him don't worry about it, you figure out how to do it, we will wait for you.

Following the extremely successful tour for the Pyromania album, Rick Allen returned with Def Leppard to the UK with an American Corvette he bought. During an accident, the car flipped and rolled. Taking Rick Allen's arm. Joe Elliot refused to leave Rick Allen behind. Rick taught himself to play drums again. Redesigning the layout and the foot peddles so he could jam out.
When Def Leppard returned to tour for their Hysteria album. The band was met with people with signs telling Def Leppard to drop Rick Allen. Because the fans thought Rick Allen couldn't play with just 1 arm.
During concerts Steve, Phil, and Rick Savage would go below the round stage to cool off. Leaving Joe Elliot & Rick Allen up on the stage to keep the fans hyped and entertained. It was during those times that Joe Elliot gave Rick Allen his nickname. "The Thunder God". Because he was drumming like every other drummer out there, that had both arms. Minus Neal Peart. Who no one will ever match.
Back in 1987, this is exactly what we listened too. Hysteria shook the rafters.
Def Leppard re-wrote the rules back in the 70s. And they still are re-writing the rules.
Yes, this old gas bag still cranks Def Leppard just as loud as my Blaupunkt stereo system will allow.
WonderMommaOG, thank you for doing this video. Memory lane, cruisin' on my Goldwing.

Def Leppard is Jim Abbot's favourite band. No? I remember that New Year's 1984, waking up and hearing that Allen had lost his arm. Still have the Times of London article in my scrapbook. Next thing you know, he's getting busted for beating his wife. Yeah. With one arm. So, for those who were sick of "Still of the Night" we have the uber-bouncy "Pour Some Sugar On Me". Somebody tell #Mr.Video that it's not actual sugar, babe. (Kids are so literal these days.) And as always on display, Momma's inimitable ability to pick just the right moments to help you burnish the memory of this old classic. It's nice to be 24 again, even for just a few minutes. RIP Clarke. Thanks, #Momma!

As always, great job WMOG! Introduced to Def Leppard in 1981 with their 'High 'n' Dry' album, I got to see them for the first time on their 'Pyromania' tour in 1983. The following album 'Hysteria' had so many radio friendly hits that it propelled them into the stratosphere!
This song was absolutely HUGE and fun fact: is the most played song in strip clubs around the U.S. (probably globally too) still to this day! It's also another show I saw at the Tacoma Dome in 1987 while stationed at McChord AFB. The cool thing Def Leppard did during this tour was they set up their stage 'in the round' (as seen in the video), and that was novel concept for arena rock back then.

Richard John Cyril Allen (Rick Allen) is an English drummer who has played for the hard rock band Def Leppard since 1978. He overcame the amputation of his left arm in January 1985 and continued to play with the band, which went on to its most commercially successful phase. He is known as "The Thunder God" by fans.

I used to listen to Pyromania and Hysteria over and over in the late 80s and early 90s. Hysteria is one of the best albums from the 80s, period. The whole album was a perfectly produced weapon of chart destruction. Listening to just one song off that album is a crime. It demands that you listen to it in its entirety. Which I’ll be doing later this weekend.

Rick Allen does get plenty of respect. What that guy can do with one arm is incredible. Imagine if that accident never happened and he had both arms.

If you want to know what determination is then it's definition is Rick Allen. He was so determined to rejoin the band he had a drum kit specially made so he could play with is feet the parts he played with his missing arm(lost after a car accident look up the story). AT first they brought in a second drummer to help out and at one gig he was late and joined in during the set and they didn't know he wasn't there. He told that band after the gig "You don't need me". Def Leppard are a great band with all that has happened during their career. RIP to Steve Clark(guitarist with long blond hair). This song helped kickstart the album Hysteria into the stratosphere.

💬Another band that was part of my music journey during my most formative years. There are so many! This one was fun to make. EDIT: it sounds like he says red iphone (it's radar phone) but only one reactor thought the same thing. I can't hear anything but red iphone. 😅😅
I hope you all enjoy this one and onto the next!💜

From 83' to 87' Leppard ruled. Yes, these were some great rockers, but you'd just have to be alive in those times because great hard rock was dropping weekly in those days. Next month, it would be something equally as great. Plus it was a shared experience because no internet and usually only one main rock radio station, so everybody knew and heard it if that's what you were plugged into...Plus MTV, so you could actually see your radio artists for the first time.
