    So it turns out Father Gascoigne had some cut content that was 99% complete, all the files required are left unused on the Bloodborne disc and a simple file edit causes them to trigger again. I love this result because his voice is so cool haha. I hope you enjoy it too!

    Another one of those cases where I can't really imagine why they removed this. Did they not want to be too explicit about the nature of nightmares? Keep some mystery around "Are all the hunters in the same nightmare? Or are they all experiencing it differently?". Not sure, really. Either way, good to hear that awesome voice work one more time!

      @Big_Dai Před 5 lety +48

      Probably because the change would feel too sudden for the character.. and they wanted the player to interact with Gascoigne (which we can, by summoning) but a non-interactive one.. more mad and bloodthirsty. Character, world and time-wise, it makes sense. At least, it feels a little more cohesive.

      @AK-wu6jl Před 5 lety +81

      FROM probably changed their minds regarding giving the player a companion like this in combat as he's pretty strong and makes the early portion of the game feel less hostile and mysterious for the player. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't figure out a good way to not have him potentially being brought to the Gascoigne boss arena either.

      @theomnitorium7476 Před 5 lety +73

      I assume the dicision to remove it was gameplay based, not story based. While it would have been neat to get to know Gascoigne more, this is the earliest part of the game. The part where you really have to learn the gameplay, especially parrying, to survive later. With Gascoigne constantly there, charging at every enemy in sight, you can't properly learn to fight by yourself. You can't learn enemy movments as well and it's much harder to learn parrying. You also propably couldn't go through the level at your own pace, since Gascoigne would engage enemies whenever he sees them.
      I think from a gameplay perspective it was wise to remove this.

      I guess he was cut so it would be more consistent with this having been a very, as he says "long night". The way I see it all of the "transforming" bosses (Gascoigne, Amelia, Orphan) are not events actually happening conveniently right when the hunter (player) arrives there, but a memory being relayed or something. So if he were to be just recently running around, it would kind of mess with that nearly frozen in time world theme.
      It makes me wonder about other hunters though. Were they somehow remaining the only (somewhat) sane ordinary hunters, or are they too gathering from all other worlds like ourself, only not choose as the vessel for the Moon?

    They probably removed it because they wanted the player to be more isolated with no friends from this world, and removing assist from him to make it more difficult. It's a shame though. Honestly, it could have been cool for him to be an recurring character leading up to the finale, like a chill dude who helps you, you later get separated then he turns crazy and tries to kill you or you meet back up later on, and I'm sure they planned that but threw it out the window like I explained above.

      He's not fully blind. Beasthood deform your retina rendering you light sensitive and it's a clear sign you're falling. For a hunter, it's a death sentence. Great to see this, Gascoigne is my favorite character in Bloodborne, but I can easily see why they cut this. His presence, as a helper, would completely upend that early game struggle for survival we have before getting our first Insight and access to leveling. Also, Soulsborne is a solo-style action game; seems kind of awkward. That, and what if he died before the appointed boss fight; killed either by you, or a beast? That, and is fall would seem rather sudden and it would take away from the punch. This whole thing would have been great to leave in if Gascoigne was a quest NPC like Albert, but not for a story.
    Although it would have been nice if they let you talk to the Gascoigne you can summon -- they had the lines already.

    • @dannyboi5887
      @dannyboi5887 Před 5 lety +22

      Tbh they could have easily solved it by having him initiate the dialogue when you first summon him with the old hunter bell, with the other piece of dialogue playing when you defeat the cleric beast and or get him to leave via the silencing blank.
      It's one of those rare cases where I think it was a mistake to cut it completely. Having it in really would have made his boss fight and subsequent beast transformation that much more impactful. It would show the player that even the oldest and most experienced Hunters are not safe from beasthood and have the potential to become a dangerous enemy at a moment's notice

  • @Jdawgshawty

  • @Cloperella
    @Cloperella Před rokem +7

    This is canon. I don't care if we don't see it in the final version of the game, this is an essential part of the story that never should have been removed, at least as far as the interaction goes. This adds so much more to the encounter you have with him as a boss, to see him as an accomplished hunter, but hear from his quips that he's way too ready to slaughter, even saying that it might be best to kill someone even if you're not sure that they're a beast.
    Even if they had to cut him helping in battle, he should have been interactable before righting him as a boss.

    Honestly I really wish they kept it, even if you had to kill him in the end. I like all these little nods to him losing his head too.The laughter at the end of every piece of dialogue, the fact that he keeps mentioning how the hunt feels different tonight and that he seems to be enjoying it a little too much, even the fact that his AI has him hitting the enemies a few more times after they're already dead (similar to how he's hacking away at already dead bodies in his boss fight cutscene). I get the feeling that the idea was for the Hunter to meet Gascoigne on the edge of his descent and then once you make it to the tomb he finally goes off the deep end and turns on you.

    Man, I really wish they had left that in. It would've been great for us to develop a bond with him only for him to surprise us by being the first boss of the game, imagine how that twist would've impacted the game and the player's relationship with other npcs! Especially Gascoigne's daughters... damn, as if that wasn't a sad enough story line already. I can understand from a gameplay perspective why they might have omitted this as it could be exploited in the early game or be used as a crutch for rookie players who would be less likely to develop the skills needed to play the game effectively before being thrown into the deep end alone but I feel like the story and player experience would've been all the better for his inclusion as a friendly npc guide and helper until he turns.

Get an insight before going into any of the two boss fights (gascoigne & cleric beast) and get yourself the old hunters bell. Father Gascoigne is my favourite Bloodborne character and I love his voice, design, theme and moveset. I always suspected there was more to him as he can be summoned for the Cleric Beast fight. Also if you look at his ripped models you can find a version of his beast form where he is holding the axe, meaning he was initially able to keep it for that phase. Just imagine that massive reach.
