    Having read the books, every complaint you have becomes way funnier because the in book reason is soooo bad and funny. God I love those books, they were so strange.
    Here are just a few ways the books go completely off the rails:
    - The Maze is an experiment about people who are immune to the ZOMBIE VIRUS that came from the Sun
    - The character's names aren't their real names, they were just named in the lab after important historical figures (Thomas for Thomas Edison, Newt for Isaac Newton, Gally for Galileo, Theresa for Mother Theresa, etc.)
    - Yes it's just as cringy in the books
    - Their 2nd test after the Maze is to cross a zombie infested desert with pretty much no instructions
    - How these tests are supposed to create a cure for the zombie virus is beyond me
    - It turns out not all the kids are immune to the zombie virus and Newt contracts it, leading him to beg Thomas to kill him (which he does)
    - It is revealed there was a 2nd Maze filled with only girls and 1 boy (names Ari after Aristotle)
    - The girls's group apparently solved the Maze 2 weeks or so faster than the boys (idk why this was mentioned in the books)
    - The cure to the zombie virus requires harvesting Thomas's brain (don't remember if it was only Thomas or some of the other kids, too)
    - Thomas, after seeing the destruction caused by the zombie virus still refuses to be brain harvested
    - The story ends with all the kids jumping through a portal into a beautiful meadow that was somehow unaffected by the virus and is completely isolated
    - The evil scientists trying to make the cure decide not to look for them
    - It is implied the kids will repopulate the Earth after the billions of infected finally die off
    - I remember way too much about this book series than is reasonable for any human being to do

    • @izzisart
      @izzisart Před 2 lety +134

      @stardoogalaxie9314 Před 2 lety +209

      The idea of the girls solving the maze faster than the boys is an interesting idea, but makes no sense when the boys don’t have their memories and weren’t raised in a society that teaches boys to isolate from other boys and make them feel that they have “do things on their own”. Like, the point of Lord of The Flies wasn’t that people are inherently horrifically violent and cruel to each other when placed in extreme circumstances, it was that the boys raised in a society that praises violence and cruelty in men was what made them so horrible. So, why would a bunch of boys who know nothing of our current society not cooperate as well as the girls to finish the maze? Humans are inherently cooperative, and when stripped of our modern societal roles and ideas that make us what we are, I think that the girl test group and the boy test group would finish the maze around the same time.

    • @morgynmoreno7817
      @morgynmoreno7817 Před 2 lety +55

      I’m gonna actually have to correct you on the virus comment you made. It didn’t come from the sun. The earth was destroyed after the sun blew up (solar flare). Of course a lot of people died but a few people still remained. Far too many for the existing government to give resources to. So they created a disease (what we know as the flare) and shot the infested arrows at people.
      It wasn’t supposed to be as bad as it turned out, but everyone knows the man made virus to kill off some human population trope. It went airborne and there was nothing anyone could do.
      Eventually they found out that some kids could survive the flare. So a bunch of government officials, doctors, and scientists came together and were like, hey we can use these kids to create some type of cure.
      One thing I didn’t really understand though was how they can use the difference of the immune children and non immune to create a cure, but I was like whatever.
      I don’t remember exactly how they came to the conclusion that they needed to harvest Thomas’s brain, but I think Ava Paige realized there was something special about him after trying it out on other kids.
      But there’s that plot hole that gets me every time and even with the movies. How does it take about 10-12 years for you specially trained doctors and scientists to find out that Thomas was the cure all along. Like they’ve done so many tests, have taken so much blood. I guess it was just for convenience of the plot, so I can’t really question it to much.

    the maze runner books were the first series I read in English (it's my second language) and I literally had no idea of what was going on 99% of the time haha I actually had gotten the third book from my school's library and I hated it so much that I forgot about its existence, than I had to pay a fee because I was supposed to return it in May and by August and I still had the book laying on my table :D (the fee was like 60 reais which was worth 2 months of my allowance. i wasn't happy)

      I find this so relatable, this was my second series after hunger games and i was craving that dystopian goodness. My friends hyped this series up and lent me the first book, my response was "this was okay, i bet it gets better on the second" cause i was comparing it to hunger games. It all went downhill from there though, i remember being mostly confused and questioning so many things, to the point that i no longer feel immersed. Peer pressure lowkey made me pretend i loved the series when the hype from the movies came about though ✋

    Think about it from a psychological perspective. Gally didn't want to leave the maze because he had probably become so reliant on that area that he could not bear the thought of leaving. He had no idea what waited beyond the maze and I think he didn't want to be thrust out into the world. It would have been shocking and he would have felt wrong-footed as if the sheer size of the outside would have crushed him. It was too much for him after living inside the maze where he knew what to do and how to keep himself safe and alive. Having a stranger come into his carefully constructed home and immediately want to change everything must have been damaging to his mental health. This was the reason why he hated Thomas because Thomas was a risk and a danger to Gally's overall quality of life. He did not want change because he was afraid and he acted so aggressively because he desperately wanted for things to return to 'normal' before Thomas' arrival. It was like he had developed Stockholm syndrome for the maze and that's why he said he 'belonged' to the maze.

    I feel like the feud between Gally and Thomas was actually very self explanatory. Gally has all his friends that have basically turned into family in the maze, they all have a system and rules that they go by, in a weird way it’s like his home. As humans we don’t really wanna explore the unknown, because it’s terrifying. And that’s what Thomas represents for him, Thomas is quite literally his opposite, the feeling of wanting to find out more despite the scariness of it. So it makes sense that these two didn’t really see eye to eye. Or at least I thought when I first watched it🤷‍♀️

    Maybe I misinterpreted the book when I was a teen, but I remember they were like “oooh there’s a girl! One girl only! Why one girl only?! She must be special! But how?” And then the explanation was that everyone put into the maze was smart and that’s why there was only one girl. Because girls can’t be smart. And they were also named after like famous people in science like Thomas Edison, Issac Newton, Albert Einstein, etc. and she was named after Mother Teresa, you know, the famous scientist. There are no other female scientists because women can’t be scientists. And there are no other female historical figures, so let’s just not look for any and put one girl. Because women suck!
    Also, he said that he didn’t make gay characters because he didn’t really have romance in the book, but doesn’t Thomas get into a love triangle with some of the very few women in the story? And didn’t all the men lose their collective minds when they saw the first girl ever? Statistically speaking, 5-8 of them should be lgbt, but none of them decided to date each other? Because there’s no romance in the book. Except for the straight love triangle.
    Yeah, needless to say I gave up on the series after the first book.

      Someone else mentioned that in the other books, there's a girls test group just like theirs that apparently finished their Maze test before the boys-focused group did, which is interesting. But unless it's elaborated on, it sounds like a bit of a pro-girl afterthought of a detail.
      I figured the reason romance in general might be avoided in a huge part of the series is because it's targeted more at boys, and that's understandable. Dystopians are typically heavily dependent on the romance element from the start, so that might make this series, or at least the first book, more appealing to some. Even girls who don't care for the romance in dystopians. But if there's a love triangle at some point, nuts to that theory.
      Plus, like Caleb mentioned, it's hard not to think about the grim sexual implications of what could've possibly taken place when Teresa got there. Or even BEFORE she got there, assuming that yeah, no way are they all straight. It's okay not to touch upon it, but it's very hard not think about.

    To be honest my head canon was always:
    The author had an traumatic event in his childhood where he took a lot of pride in what fast of a runner he was. And then suddenly there was this one kid that was somewhat jealous and annoyed of his bragging that said something along the lines of "So what? This won't take you anywhere in life so shut the f* up!" this traumatized him so deeply that he wrote a weird self insert fanfiction in wich he was the hero who's only mentionable trait was to run really fast and he's the hero/ chosen one one because of it. So his fast running would safe the world. At least in his dreams.
    This head Canon feels so real to me that I sometimes feel sorry for the author for this one bully shattering all he was in one single sentence 😢

    You legit have no idea how excited I am to see you posting again! Missed you a lot!
    Also, yeah, I'm not a fan of Maze Runner either. Tried reading the first book, got through the first chapter, hated literally everything, and immediately sent it back to the library.

    Did you even have a hiatus? Your content, editing, choice of video clips are like you've been consistently doing this for years and honing your craft? I guess talent doesn't go away. Keep up the great work

    I think the thing with Gally being totally against leaving was only adressed in passing in the movies or the books, but it was that WICKD took over his mind or something. The funny part is that after he said that literally no one cares or ever addresses it again

      thats another thing the movies do is just that, "we dont need to show you, we'll just tell you" every single.

    I'm devastated you didn't make videos for the other movies. This is the only way for me to consume the Maze Runner series.

  • @angrypersoninthecomments3050

    Oh real quick, can I mention that in the books Thomas and Theresa could talk to each other through their minds. Like telepathy, but for absolutely no reason. It was barely even relevant in the plot and made actually no sense.
