  • HMCG AugustaWestland AW189 call-sign Rescue 199 from Prestwick airport, on its inaugural landing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary's (RVI) rooftop helipad facility located in Newcastle upon Tyne.
    Rescue 199 was on a joint emergency services tasking with Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team and the Great North Air Ambulance Service's (GNAAS) Helimed 58. Assisting with a man and his dog who had fallen roughly 200m from Striding edge and sustained serious injuries. Given the seriousness of the mans injuries he was accompanied by the GNAAS trauma team in Rescue 199 and flown to Newcastle upon Tyne's major trauma centre for treatment.

    The helipad firefighters are trained in 'hot off-loading" of casualties and worked alongside the crews of Rescue 199 and GNAAS trauma team to get the casualty to A+E.
